All he needs is first team football to develop - a bit like Rice when he started out.

His anticipation, positioning and awareness impressed me... probably needs to bulk up a little bit but looks the part to me.

It's a step-up at least. We've seen AWB at LB and I'm sure we have seen Coufal there before too.  So to actually put an LB there and from the academy, however obvious it might have been, I'm just glad he did it.

Anyone see much of Casey and how near or far he is from stepping up? I see he’s been in the first team squad a fair bit and seen him for the U21s a few times but felt he wasn’t quite there physically just yet? But perhaps other posters have followed him more closely and far better insight? How tall and quick is he? Decent technically with his passing, control ?

He played really well. A big positive. Repaid the trust GP placed in him. Bodes well. Wasn’t phased at all. 

Obviously he got fatigued and dropped off a little before being subbed but that is nothing some training and coaching won’t eliminate. 

Hope this leads the way to a couple more of the young players getting an opportunity. 

This would never have happened under the previous two managers.

Whatever else we make of the Villa cup tie, Scarles starting was a real bright spot and I'm glad he looked the part and not overawed by the occasion. I found the travelling fans chanting his name rather uplifting, and incredible to see that he was trusted to take set pieces over long established pros.

Let's hope Potter is able to find routes into the team for Marshall, Potts, Orford, Earthy etc.

But it’s an improvement on the previous Head Coach who would have played AWB at left back and the ageing Coufal at right back. 

I think we might actually see Guilherme kick a ball now. Wouldn’t rule out him starting right wing with Kudus up front in the not-so distant. I’m up for giving it a go at least. Think Guilherme has looked pretty comfortable on the few occasions he’s had 5 minutes.

He wasn't thrown under the bus. Good signs of basic but competent management.

Steve Sidwell, who played under him at Brighton, said he was the best man manager he has ever played for.

Looks totally confident and solid defensively - Potter's job will be to coach him to become an all rounder and able to attack as well as he can defend. Played really well with Paqueta on that left (when Paqueta wasn't fannying about like a homo).

It tells me that he A) had the ear of the development coaching team and trusted their feedback and B) is prepared to give our youth players a chance.

Also for Potter that sets him off on a real positive note with the fans despite the result.
