Lanzini for me, was just getting better and better pre-injury. I remember the Argie team looking despondent after the news of his injury, had a big part to play at that world cup before then. He was linking up brilliantly with Arnautovic for a while, the kinds of players we are desperate for now.
Both had some memorable goals against Spurs. Benayoun's goal against Fulham was pure class, Anton with a brilliant one on the volley same game

We've been quite fortunate to have a number of classy elegant attacking Midfielders play for us. Berkovic, Benayoun, Lanzini, Brooking, Devonshire, Payet, Cole. All who you'd happily pay the price of a ticket to see alone and all who'd describe as "playing the West Ham Way" at it's best.

Different players. Lanzini more of a holder and passer to maintain tempo. Benayoun more box to box and what I would call a final third player where he came to life. Making things happen on edge of box and getting on the end of cut backs and 1-2's.

Lanzini was incredibly unlucky with his injury and could've achieved more. I think Yossi was a level above him anyway. Was a great player.

FWIW - I think Berkovic was a level above both of them. Pure class.

One of my favourite Benayoun moments was 1 of his silky jinxy runs that resulted in the winner against Ladyboys rabble in Lasagne-gate..

And we're all still laughing about it now. 😂🍲

Maybe, but Yossi's serial bottling always seemed to take place within about 20 yards of me in Chav Corner (happy days!). I know he was a good player, but I hated him.

Imo
Benayoun was more consistent and effective in his shorter spell.
Lanzini was magic at times but was anonymous in a lot of games.
Berkovic was better than both

Benayoun was a snake who welched on a verbal agreement to sign a new contract and then fucked off to the ‘pool.
Always liked Manu as a player but sadly he never got over that serious injury.

If Manu had never had his injury and Payet had never had his strop I often wonder what we would have been like further down the line.  That first season under Bilic they were both sublime.  Benayoun was a cracking player, as was Berkovic.  Pinched him from under the nose of Spurs didn't we?

Good interview with Yossi.

Don't give Sullivan any ideas. We've got a soon-to-be 40yo still on our books as it is.

Unfair comparison due to Lanzini's injury that reduced his game so much. So I'll score it a score-draw. Both were elegant passers of the ball with the occasional blinder scored. Lanzini vs Spurs 3-3 away sticks in the mind as does Benayouns sublime goal vs Fulham at home.

And out of all 3, still Berkovic.

Lanzini got a bad injury just as his international career was about to take off.

Yossi achieved more but Manny gave me more memories and didn't fuck us over.

Not even a comparison, Benayoun on a different level. You only have to look at his career to see that. Did a lot more work further up the pitch than Lanzini, too.

Benayoun or Berkovic would have been a better question.
