How can Luis Guilherme be bad?
https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/arti ... 247xjg1y8o
From the BBC article.
Rival fans used to mock Palmeiras' academy, singing that they had never won the Copa Sao Paulo, Brazil's premier youth competition. Those times are long gone. Not only have Palmeiras won the 'Copinha', as the tournament is affectionately known, twice (2022 and 2023), but they have also established themselves as the hottest talent factory in Brazilian football.Over the past few years, the Sao Paulo-based giants have produced and sold stars such as Chelsea-bound Estevao Willian (£29m), Real Madrid's Endrick(£28.5m), West Ham's Luiz Guilherme (£25.5m), Nottingham Forest's Danilo(£16m), and Shakhtar Donetsk's Kevin (£8m, all fees including add-ons).They have all helped Palmeiras cement their status as the most successful Brazilian team of the past decade while generating massive revenue.
This club really fucks things up doesnt it?

Re: How can Luis Guilherme be bad?
Nice little interview with Luis, all be it nothing earth shattering. Sounds like a nice kid.

With how Fullkrug is showing (as well as apparently being a great personality around the Club) and Guilherme starting to show some potential....you can almost see what Steidten was thinking.

Re: How can Luis Guilherme be bad?
Remember hearing an interview with the South America football expert, Tim Vickery, just as we were about to sign Guilherme. He stated categorically that the player was nowhere near ready for the Premier League. Said a minimum of two years before he’d be a regular, assuming he settled well, and adjusted to the football here. So 100% one for the future when we signed him.

Re: How can Luis Guilherme be bad?
He probably needed another couple of full seasons in Brazil now that it's taken him a year to settle let's see what next season brings. His transfer fee was expensive for us but it's next to fuck all for many others. He is the least of our squad problems.
Re: How can Luis Guilherme be bad?
I originally thought he was one for the future but was corrected by some of those quotes.
To say he's ready to make an impact in the first team, for me suggested he'd play more of a part than he actually did in the first half of the season.
Either way,I'm not that concerned that he didn't, because it was always going to be tough for a young player moving to a new country and trying to adjust in a new league. Some players need longer than others and it looks like he's a bit more settled now so I'm hoping he can continue to earn minutes and experience.

Seem to recall he being labelled one for the future at the time. Both were said, actually. It looks like the idea was always that he would be a sub this season and hopefully become a first 11 player down the line.
This is what Steidten said on the official site:
“Luis is obviously still very young, but we have no doubt that he is ready to make an impact in the first team here. He is coming to a great environment, where he will be surrounded by other exciting young players and good people who will support him every step of the way.
“We will look after him, help him and his family to settle in and allow him time to adapt. But we are very excited about his immediate potential and are looking forward to seeing the progress he can make at West Ham United.
“This is a very important signing for us – we’ve worked hard across the Club, working closely with the Board, to secure Luis’s signature. We know how the tough the Premier League is, and we want a squad that is competitive next season, but also to find the balance of ensuring that we plan for the longer-term future. Exciting young players like Luis Guilherme will help us to reach those goals.”
Yeah that seems a fair assessment. For me given the players we currently have at the club he was always one for the future unless he just blew everyone away. Some really encouraging cameos of late, so very interesting to see what happens if/when Kudus moves on.

Cash in on him now and we lose money, lose a potential first team player and send the wrong message to any other young players.
He's getting more game time, looking a bit more comfortable and settled and he is only just 19 years old.
It's a shame he was brought under the false pretense that he was ready for the first team immediately, but that doesn't mean it still has to be a waste of money and that he can't still succeed at the club.

Re: How can Luis Guilherme be bad?
If we cash in on Guilherme we will be last on other top class youngsters lists in the future. Seeing as we are targeting younger players this will be more self sabotage.
Re: How can Luis Guilherme be bad?
He doesn't play in the same position as Jimmy, he actually played as a right winger for his old club yet another inverted one. But was suggested that he could play all across the front but was seen eventually as a CAM by those that knew of him, from what I read
Re: How can Luis Guilherme be bad?
I doubt he is that bad otherwise there would be little to no interest in him at, or near, the purchase price. It seemed strange that he was bought at, or around the same time as Summerville, and plays in the same position. We are told that Summerville was Sullivan's signing and Guilherme Steidten's. So the club spent over £40m on two players for the same position?
Something stinks about how this kid appears to have been treated with his first start looking very much like he had been hung out to dry.
Is he that bad? My guess is we will never know at West Ham whether he is the new Savio or a new Neymar (without the cheating).

Re: How can Luis Guilherme be bad?
The next Neymar that rolls around holding his head in agony as a slight breeze brutally and deliberately knocked him clean over. THAT Neymar?
Re: How can Luis Guilherme be bad?
Odd that everyone seems to rate him except for West Ham staff and fans.
If one of those clubs are interested, send him out on loan for a season.
You just know that we'll sell him without a sell-on clause/% and he's be the next Neymar.

Re: How can Luis Guilherme be bad?
Don't shoot the messenger but rumours were a club bid near to 20 mil in Jan for him and there are clubs out there who really rate him and will pay good wedge for him, Feyenoord being one and the Shaktar mob in Ukraine. I stand by that he'll be gone in the summer.

Re: How can Luis Guilherme be bad?
I imagine that Guilherme is on a much, much lower salary than Scamacca, Haller, etc. so there's less of a need to get him off the wage bill and given his age his value won't go down if he stays another year or two, and will likely go up if he gets decent game time.
It would be idiotic to sell him at a big loss this summer. If somehow we could recoup most of the transfer fee then I expect it might happen. Can't see who would spend that much on him now though, given that we've made him look less of a prospect than he was by not loaning him out or playing him much.

Re: How can Luis Guilherme be bad?
The same club that took a £30m-odd hit on Felipe Anderson, £10m on Scamacca and £20m on Haller. I hope you’re right but you’re giving those running the club too much credit. They have a demonstrable record of panic selling for a loss.

This is a dysfunctional team. Too many expensive and talented players in the squad compared to our league position. Very hard to learn anything about Guilherme given the circumstances here.
I just hope in training the club can see his true potential or not rather than these fleeting 1st team appearances.

Re: How can Luis Guilherme be bad?
The whole set up was shit first half, he did nothing wrong though when he was involved, was harsh to take him off. Could have least given him ten minutes in our more attacking formation.
