West Ham Get Serious on Liverpool & England Starlet

West Ham—and just about every other club, no doubt—seem to get linked with wave after wave of unknown overseas players hailed as the next big thing. Most require a bit of research, and 99% never end up moving to the linked club anyway.

But occasionally, we get linked with the right player at the right time—one hiding in plain sight.

That’s certainly the case with England Under-21 star Tyler Morton, who is now deemed surplus to requirements at Liverpool. The 22-year-old Reds academy graduate signed a long-term deal in January 2023, before heading out on loan to Blackburn Rovers in 2022–23 and then to Hull City last season, where he was named EFL Young Player of the Month.

Morton was first linked to West Ham in an ExWHUEmployee update back in January, and speculation has ramped up again in recent days. A number of national newspapers are linking the Irons with a move and there appears to be serious interest.

In yesterday’s Euro U21 final, Morton came on as a substitute after the excellent Alex Scott went off injured following a cynical German challenge. It was a tentative start for Morton, arriving just as Germany were growing into the game—but his influence steadily increased, and he provided a sumptuous assist for Jonathan Rowe’s late winner.

Beyond the hollywood moment, Morton looked composed, confident, and formed a strong partnership with Elliot Anderson in midfield. In short he looks to be an excellent player.

West Ham opportunity not to be missed

With Liverpool’s summer spending spree rocketing them into another financial stratosphere, their three young England stars look set for the exit door. Jarell Quansah is heading to Bayer Leverkusen, Harvey Elliott looks Brighton-bound—and Morton is there for the taking.

It’s time to stop talking about limited funds. The transfer window has been open for almost a month, and the Hammers haven’t signed anyone.

Now, here is a talented, young, English midfielder—with experience and reportedly an interest in joining West Ham.

We’d be fools to muck this one up.

The continued reports linking Danish goalkeeping coach Casper Ankergren with a move to West Ham is exciting – not, primarily, because of his coaching prowess which is, I’m sure, first rate: More by association with who he’s worked and the expectation that a Danish coach will herald a new, corresponding Danish ‘keeper transfer arrival in the green jersey too.

Last week Gonzo’s article quoted exWHUemployee as highlighting both Ankergren and Leicester’s Danish keeper supreme Mads Hermansen. In the last day fresh fuel has been added to that fire from Danish site tipsbladet.dk who are now reporting with their article headed:

“Mads Hermansen could be on his way to West Ham” – with local journalist Gianluca Di Marco now echoeing talksport.dk’s claim:

“The club [West Ham, that is!]  really likes him, and it could be a good opportunity for him. I don’t believe he will stay at Leicester. And I think West Ham will be the right option for him.”

If true it would be a perfect way to get West Ham’s transfer window up and running.

Hermansen was widely reported last week as being a £15 – £20 million keeper (Leicester paid €7.7 million two years ago)  which also makes financial ‘win’ for West Ham over the more expensive Ramsdale or Chelsea’s Djordje Petrovic. (One report today suggested thirty five million – which I’d politely be tempted to discount!  The Hammers spending thirty five million on a keeper is as likely as seeing John Duran running out in front of the home fans wearing number 9 at London Stadium)

Make no bones about it, Hermansen is the real deal and he won’t be coming to sit on the bench. The in-depth article that followed in Claret and Hugh last week is worth a read – in case you’re in any doubt that he’ll push Areola all the way.

What is more  he’d fit in to Potter’s plans and reinvigorate fan interest.

He’s a breath of fresh air waiting to hit Stratford: Exciting. Really. Just don’t let him sign for anyone else!

Caught Offside

West Ham offered the chance to sign 20-G/A attacker this summer

Galatasaray attacker Baris Alper Yilmaz has been linked with a move to the Premier League, with clubs like West Ham United keen on securing his signature.

According to the Italian publication Calciomercato. It via Football Italia, the player is being offered to multiple clubs, and he was recently offered to Italian giants Inter Milan as well.
Player offered to multiple clubs

Meanwhile, West Ham are not the only English club offered the chance to sign the player. Nottingham Forest contacted as well. It seems that the player is looking for a move this summer. His contract with the Turkish club ends in 2027, and he is eager for a new experience.

Intermediaries have offered him to multiple clubs, and he is likely to cost €35 million. The player scored 14 goals last season and picked up six assists as well. There is no doubt that he could prove to be a quality addition for West Ham. He has scored a total of 34 goals in his club career.

West Ham could use Baris Alper Yilmaz

He can operate as a centre forward as well as a left-sided winger. West Ham need more depth in the final third, and the 25-year-old could be the ideal acquisition. He has the technical attributes and versatility to thrive in English football. A move to the Premier League could be ideal. Meanwhile, the Hammers were quite poor in the attack last season and signing the Turkish attacker could be a wise decision.

The reported asking price is certainly affordable for West Ham, but they might look to sign him for a more reasonable amount of money. It remains to be seen how the situation develops..

West Ham are likely to be an attractive destination for the player. He will look to prove himself in the Premier League with them.
