On a thread about what has become wrong with this website, literally a couple of back and forths in true traditional WHO style and what it's always been known for, and it gets locked. Like the Jota thread, it's the only thread that's getting any proper traction.

I'm beginning to think Manuel had the right idea. This place is being turned into KUMB.

Definitely with the ladybirds, have seen loads in the garden this year, when there haven’t been more than one or two on a lucky year. Grasshoppers as well the last couple weeks and haven’t seen one of them for ages either. Piece de resistance though was seeing one of those very tiny red dot insects on the weekend, used to call them blood something or other and haven’t seen one in decades.

Could have predicted that. On UK Reddit subs there have been endless threads where people have put up photos of ladybird larvae, asking 'What's this insect?' We were clearly going to have a bumper crop this year.

It's actually not about that at all. WHO is essentially directed under the Online Safety Act 2023 as a user-to-user service with a primarily UK based user base.

You can agree with the merits of that act not...but the site has to operate in line with it.  Bottom line. 

I'm also not the only admin. Maybe I'm the one most engaged, or visible because my username has the word 'admin' in it from during setup (and I never got around to removing it). But this isn't a dictatorship, and I'm not 'the decider'. 

Carry on shooting the messenger though. If you think WHO is a beige-fest of sanitised blandness, look around you. This site remains right at the cusp of non-moderated. We let go what we can. And we get it wrong sometimes...myself included for sure.

But we're not immune to the challenges that come with operating in this space, or the responsibilities that have been bestowed by those that make the actual rules.

You take exception to comments that you dislike, disapprove of or would prefer not to see and hide behind an opaque Act of Parliament intended to police larger online media.

Bleeding Claret was the same person as Manuel and Private Dancer, think he used another name as well, Proper Iron or similar? this WHOicide is nothing new................

Personally, didn't have a problem with him, gave me loads of stick/cunting at times but just shrugged or laughed it off, met him on 2 occasions, seemed ok to me in real life, certainly not like his online persona 

He did take things to far, one thing being called a cսnt, thick cսnt etc but he was like a dog with a bone with some on here!!! Problem is that if you dish it out be prepared to take it, and that was his ultimate undoing, just seemed highly hypocritical to bang on about stalkers and being targeted when he seemed to do that to others.

Good chance he comes back i reckon Maybe not as Manuel but we see a "new" poster turns up and over the period of a few months it becomes pretty clear who it is, the leopard as they say doesn't change its spots

Being a stats bore I can shed some light on how true the title of this thread is.

The site saw consistent increases in both the number of posts and the amount of posters for five consecutive months after the relaunch with the average number of posts per day nearly doubling over that time. Then February and March this year we saw a big drop off. Its since recovered significantly from the March low but it's off season so I wouldn't expect that continue. The amount of people reading the site (page views) has been fairly consistent with slight climb over the year so far. So it's not dead yet; it's taken some Mounjaro and feeling good about itself again.

I find it weird that people complain about the demise of the site not because there is little evidence in those stats, but because if you are referring to the content then whose fault is it? Not mine, my posts are laugh a minute.

This thread was specifically about 1 other thread, there's been untold back and forth bollocks on this board for months on end from a very clear few posters, I'm not one of them. I don't even post that much at all to be honest. Most will agree I take this place for what it should be, this cringe-fest thread aside.

I had a 2 post exchange with that strange cսnt Oxbore, who tried his best to dig me out bless him, and Stubbo locked the thread. Very odd. Almost like someone GRASSED.

Anyway, none of it really matters, as we know this site is just a load of bollocks posted by fat old bald hairy back losers. Apart from Nurse. She's not bald.

 

 

Wasn't a dig at you, mate. Wasn't even you who posted the original thread title. Was just making the point to those in the thread who say the site is shit these days, that they themselves are contributing to this site and thus must take some of the blame for it. We all produce the content on here, we're not just mere consumers.

Tbf to Stubbo, he's just trying to tidy the place up a bit as we have few (if any?) mods at the moment. It's a difficult line to tread as it's obvious we wont all agree on what needs moderating but I think we do all at least agree that no one wants to read posters bickering.

It's humans doing the modding so it's never going to be absolutely even-handed, its just going to be a best effort by whoever does it. So maybe you have justified complaint with this? I dunno, others might have made different choices on what to lock but unlikely they would be better choices over the long run. I know I couldn't do a better job of it and that's why I usually shy away from it despite being 'one of the mods'. Which is perhaps doing the site more harm than if we had someone overzealous.
