Jordan Henderson, remember him? Well it seems the workmanlike midfielder is on the verge of a Premier League return having spent the past 18 months failing to win the Dutch title with Ajax.
Henderson, 35, has not taken up the option of another year in Amsterdam and is now a free agent. Romantic reports of heading back to Sunderland, the club where the England international started his career, have been played down but Henderson is said to have suitors at home and further afield, including Porto.
Having recently returned to the England squad under Thomas Tuchel, it has been suggested that playing in the Premier League would enhance Henderson’s chances of prolonging his international career.
Italian champions Napoli are ‘back in’ for Alejandro Garnacho, according to the Mirror. The Argentinian winger is one of five United players not required to attend preseason training with the rest of Ruben Amorim’s squad as they pursue moves away. It is this breakdown of relations with the club that could see Napoli manage to land a cut-price deal. A £60m bid for Garnacho in January was knocked back, but now hope £45m offer will do the trick.
Brighton have been low-key busy so far this summer, with six players already signed and the belated arrival of January addition Stefanos Tzimas. Exits are now underway and so far £71.5m has been raised, the bulk of that coming via João Pedro’s move to Chelsea. The next man out of the door looks to be Simon Adingra, who The Athletic report is on the verge of joining Sunderland for a fee that could surpass £20m.
Adingra was linked to the Black Cats in January as part of the deal that eventually saw Tommy Watson head to the south coast, and now it looks like Sunderland will finally get their man. Another player set to depart Brighton is Evan Ferguson. The Irish striker spent the second half of the season at West Ham, without making much impact. That has not perturbed Roma, who are said to be working on a deal.
Al Hilal, fresh off the back of a Club World Cup where they bloodied a few noses in the established elite are on the hunt for a new striker. One-time Arsenal target Benjamin Sesko has been touted as the next man to lead the line for the Saudi Pro League club and another option is Crystal Palace big man Jean-Philippe Mateta, 28.
James McAtee does not look to have much of a future at Manchester City. The 22-year-old was left out of the travelling party for the Club World Cup and instead went to the European Under-21 Championship, where he impressed as part of Lee Carseley’s title-winning side. That clearly has been enough to catch the attention of clubs in the Premier League; among those linked with a move for McAtee are Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest.
Kyle Walker-Peters has been looking for his next move after leaving Southampton following their relegation into the Championship. The 28-year-old, who has two England caps, is set to sign for Besiktas, where Ole Gunnar Solskjær is now in charge.
After seeing Leroy Sané depart for the Turkish Super Lig, Bayern Munich’s search for a new attacking threat continues. The latest name to be linked with the German giants is RB Leipzig’s Xavi Simons, Bayern are reported to have enquired about the possible signing, which sounds polite.

Everton and West Ham look to hijack Crystal Palace £27m double transfer plan
Middlesbrough are braced for Premier League transfer interest in Hayden Hackney this summer.
Crystal Palace were reportedly planning a double £27 million swoop for Middlesbrough duo Hayden Hackney and Rav van den Berg but could have those plans foiled by Premier League rivals.
The Eagles have garnered a reputation for spotting the top talent in the Championship and bringing them to develop at Selhurst Park. Michael Olise, Eberechi Eze and Adam Wharton are just some who have followed that path in recent years.
The Sun had claimed that Hackney and Van den Berg could be the next two to follow in their footsteps. Crystal Palace are looking to add European experience this summer ahead of a Europa League campaign, and have done so with Walter Benitez already through the doors from PSV Eindhoven, but will not abandon their long term transfer strategy.
Crystal Palace face transfer competition for Middlesbrough duo
However, any move for Hackney will be contested amid fresh reports from Sky Sports. Everton are said to hold serious interest in the 23-year-old, who was part of the England under-21 squad that won the Euros last month.
Brentford, Fulham and West Ham are all also said to be monitoring Hackney, alongside Crystal Palace and clubs in Europe that include Porto, Stuttgart and Bayer Leverkusen. Hackney is a product of the Middlesbrough academy and has two years left on his current contract at the Riverside Stadium.
At the end of June, reports of the Crystal Palace double Boro swoop began to emerge. It had been claimed that £27 million could bring both Hackney and his teammate Van den Berg to Selhurst Park.
Middlesbrough brace for Hayden Hackney interest
Middlesbrough rejected a £9 million offer for Hackney from Porto in January. In their report, The Sun added that Crystal Palace had been monitoring £12 million rated Van den Berg in Slovakia.
Hackney turned heads with his performances in midfield last season and impressed under the stewardship of Michael Carrick. The Boro manager has since been replaced by Rob Edwards and it remains to be seen whether Hackney continues his work at the club next term.
Speaking ahead of the Euros and after Carrick was sacked, the player said: “I found out Thursday I was in the squad and told my mum and dad and yeah I was buzzing. But also, yeah I was gutted about Michael Carrick to be honest. He’s done loads for me.
“He put his trust in me to play the majority of games and helped me so much with everything really. I can’t thank him enough for that. I text him straight away wishing him all the best in the future and he replied wishing me good luck for going away with England. It was nice. It’s probably the first manager that I’ve lost and I just wanted to thank him for everything. But now a new guy will come in, whoever that may be, and as a squad we’ll go from there.”
