Excuse me if I don’t get excited by this underwhelming signing. In fact so far Potter hasn’t yet made a single decent signing, never mind a truly exciting one.
With it being just over 3 weeks before the start of the new season we must have the worst squad ever. With the exception of just 3 or 4 players the squad is full of dross.
Unless a miracle takes place and we land a handful of top drawer players between now and the middle of August my money is going on us being relegated. And there are only five teams with worse odds than us for that bet

Yes, possibly not the best solution but if we can convert a winger or to to attacker like before why not?
At least we would make it more difficult for the opp then just doubling up on our wings to make us crab in our own half ffs...
This is idiot shit.
When we don't get decent midfielders (you know this is a guarenteed Sulli result) what would you do?
Dunno, I'd probably play our current midfielders rather than a fucking backup fullback who has never fucking played in centre midfield, you soapy fuck.

Basically, our defenders will suddenly appear much more competent at their jobs if we have 2 young centre midfielders who have the legs to get back, cover and condense the space ahead of them to prevent being arse raped on the counter attack.

It really it that simple

That isn't a problem, it's about time we could show off something like that.
Not sure exactly what you mean?
Not a dig at all mate, just meant to say that the brainwashing that we have to sell before we buy means that we're talking about selling International standard players to buy young unproven players. It would be great to get a young better version of the calamity Mavropanos but if we're taking a gamble on some kid in defence I'd sooner keep the Greece international if we don't know the kid will be better. Ideally we'd get the young player in as backup and see if he can cut the mustard before selling Mac but if we're doing that, let's use Casey in that role.

In which case, the problem isn't that we have all these top defenders (even if they're prone to a rickett every single game), that's something we should be proud of. We have a whole host of international defenders and we still want better. It's not a problem.

Don't worry- wasn't taken as one in the slightest! Just didn't understand what you were referring to. Totally agree we don't HAVE to sell anyone as we know Sullivan could just put his hand in his pocket and we'd have the means to get a couple in, but I guess it's bad business to just have stacks of players on the books you know are hardly going to play, especially if they are eating into the wage bill. I do think we could be mowing those players we can get 10-15 mill for potentially, so Mav would fall under that category. Agree it's a risk bringing in someone inexperienced but I think that's where we have to trust the talent spotting and look at ultimate potential. Mav is for example a 6 and never getting better than that. I'd probably as he's not a key member of the squad want to gamble on someone they think could be an 8, if that makes sense. But ultimately you are right, we don't have to sell Mav anyway. But even if he stays, we definitely need to be trying to find and acquire the next Kerkez or MacAllister or Mitoma. I'm really not fussed if we bring in someone who isn't a 'name' when they get here provided they become a name while they are here.

I reckon he will start for us, remember he can play both sides.

Yeah it’s a problem. And kind of the same one we face in midfield as well. We have to shift some bodies in both positions before we have room to bring in some. We’ve plenty of players just not perhaps the ones we need. We’re going to end up carrying a lot of dead wood thanks to the piss poor transfer policy of the last 2-3 seasons.

ideally we’d shift Mav and Aguerd- no chance of shifting Kilman- so we can bring in at least one young promising CB with quality and 2 or 3 of the CMs as well for the same reason. It was good to see Guido play yesterday but he looked like a walking red card.

Realistically CB can't do anything until we shift someone. We have Kilman, Aguerd, Mavropanos, Todibo, and Casey, with cover from Diouf and Wan Bissaka too.

4 senior centre backs, a young international, and two international wide players that can cover CB (as well as Alvarez who is also a CB cover and has done so for Mexico).

There's no scope there for another senior CB unless one leaves I'd have thought.

Sensible signing. Not exciting but not a gamble either. His cheapness in terms of fee is enabling us to attempt to get the two Liverpool lads (who are not the answer). Probably gonna play a fair few games with the Ebola Cup and because he can play both sides. Can see times where AWB plays right of a three with KWP at wingback. Might as well get Scarles out on loan somewhere until Dec/Jan, he's 4th choice LB now even if Emerson goes.

Lets have no more of this stupid fucking Summerville at wingback talk though, cսnt hasn't even nailed down a spot on the wing, such is his lack of.....fucking anything since he arrived.

Welcome KWP son, but where's our fucking physical box to box midfielder and pacey striker? Watch the panic after we get beat soundly in every game on the Yank tour.

However, we are set in wide positions now which is good but the focus needs to shift to CM and CB urgently.

Slightly underwhelming but he's a good lad by all accounts and a Londoner so I will look the other way regarding his Spurs history. We had to with Ryan Fredericks but I don't think he was better than KWP.

Hopefully he'll surprise us in a good way.

Not convinced at all about that Lop setting up/deciding the team for Villa thing. Summerville never went near the right wing or RWB under Lop let alone starting there so it would be a bit of a stretch to say Lop had him pencilled in to start there for that game.

Scarles won't be ahead of him unless Potter wants a more defensive a flat back 4, and rightly so.
He covers both sides too.

stubbo-admin wrote: 20 Jul 2025, 10:42 Excellent addition to the squad...but if he starts many games, we've gone wrong somewhere.

Would expect Diouf, Scarles, Wan Bissaka and maybe even Summerville all ahead of him in the Wing Back roles.
I think it will AWB and Diouf as our starters and KWP will be first back up. KWP is an ok signing but he will block Scarles development. But it is what it is. It was Jlo who trained and set up the team for the Villa cup game. Potter even said at the time that he'd had very little time with the team before the match and most of it was spent talking with the players getting to know them. So thinking Potter will have Summerville ahead of KWP for a wing back role is pie in the sky for me.
