It was the fact he largely disappeared from doing anything effective afterwards that was a huge let down. He's back in Brazil now playing for Palmeiras probably in what should have been Guillerme's position...
The form suddenly dipped when it coincided in the Team having to put up with Roberto in goal. First few games he was still assisting goals then when Fabianski was out long term the whole teams form suffered greatly. Shame it fizzled out in the end.

To think he was probably signed to more or less play the role Alan Dev used to do back in the day! Unbelievable
I reckon he was played out of position a lot for us. Expected to play left wing or wing back and track back and make tackles which he was absolutely shit at. Not to say he could have been excellent or he wasn't a bad buy, but he could have been used a lot better without exposing his weaknesses and mitigating his strengths. I think he could have been used better in a more advanced role alongside Arnie or Antonio.
But that's all academic and he goes down as another hugely expensive waste of money. Could be the player we've made our biggest ever financial loss on?

End of thread.
FFS give it a rest... We are where we are; if you don't like it don't fucking go. We didn't have a fucking say in it anyway. Let's hope we get bought one day and we can have it rebuilt, and especially for you, you moaning cսnt you can have your own 'travelator' to get you to your pitchside seat.

Has to be Nsereko for me. Never has there been a more blatant carve up between the agent and the two clubs.

Shevchenko was another one, although he was brilliant at Milan, and Chelsea have had a long habit of turning top strikers into shit players.
I wanted somebody else to mention Rebrov but yes, that is pretty much a textbook case which largely proves the point!

I reckon he'd missed far fewer games through injury than the majority of players we've signed in their late 20s. We shouldn't have bought him anyway though. He obviously wasn't suited to the pace and physicality of the Premier League.
Yeah it's a fair point.
Historically it's always been a well known fact that players from Russia or also now Ukraine have always been underwhelming whatever top league they get a transfer too whether it's here or Italy, Spain whatever.
Remember Arshevin at Arsenal?

Reading comprehension - you just can't beat it.
OK - I fucked that one up
Never post before I've had my coffee.
Yarmolenko was still a bit flakey though but I guess the history of our club has always somebody else's cast-offs.

He never played for Sevilla. Or Schalke. You seem to be confusing him with someone else.

Jean-Luc Paul Goddard" wrote: ↑02 Nov 2025, 08:35 Well, I wasted a few minutes reading that article which goes on about how he wasn't good enough for Dortmund (exactly I said) and made no mention at all about his fitness (why would it, seeing as he'd never had an injury in his whole career at that time), so I don't know what made you put that link up unless it was to agree with what I said and admit you were talking nonsense.
I just remember when he signed an-ex manager in Germany saying he didn't work enough on his fitness - that is all. Maybe he just took longer to recover and get up to full speed after an injury was the gist of the message.
He played for Sevilla and was underwhelming there and didn't settle (it's too hot) and at Schalke he was O.K but didn't pull up any trees as the twitchy one might've said. His one season at Dortmund was largely the same. The odd good game punctuated by a few average ones then an injury or two and time on the bench.
Which is more or less how it panned out for us as well. Was it true he was on 115k a week? I remember a figure in that ballpark.
The point is with the way our club is run we rarely, if ever get value for money regarding the transfer fee and wages spent.
I think everyone is sick to death of it tbh.
That was the point.

He got bombed out of Dortmund for not being fit enough to play Bundesliga so I don't know why anybody expected his body to consistently hold together in the Prem.
Where'd you get that from? He missed about 8 games for them with a foot injury the season he was there. Prior to that he'd never had a single injury in his whole career and had already played well over 300 games for Dynamo Kiev. He didn't have physical issues until he came here. Fuck knows what we do to players. The reason he got "bombed out" of Dortmund was probably because he wasn't good enough for them, and they had Pulisic becoming a 1st team regular so didn't need to replace him.
