Bit harsh on Paul Hilton and Iain DowIe. Considering he came from that heavily beaten Bury team I don't think he ever let West Ham down. Played well in that 4-0 win at Chelsea when Alvin was injured. Decent back up player. Dowie was never a goal scorer but did a decent job as a support to the likes of Cottee and always worked hard. Just unfortunate he is remembered for that cracking own goal!

Kilman definitely. Echoing Ljungberg and Wilshere as terrible wastes of massive wages. Hutchinson for the money spent at the time is up there. Lee Bowyer considering the hype the first time was disappointing but not our worst

Gary Charles. On the books for 3 years. 8 games.

Would have been better off signing Ray Charles.

Thanks, that is pretty damming.

I looked him up on Google, he has played for England - at 5-a-side!

Don’t think Liverpool’s results have been down to keeping
The defence has looked shaky & Salah has put the cue back in the rack
Talking to a Liverpool fan last night & she reckons Klopp might come back
I suggested Brendon Rodgers or Roy Hodgson as other possible returning heroes but she wasn’t keen

Fair point, fella. Although it's not working out brilliantly at Liverpool just yet! ;-)

(I do think Valero was a good GK coach, btw)

I suppose that Sullivan could effect a bung by increasing the agent fee the club pay during transfer negotiations and agreeing to split the difference with the agent. Doubtful that any of the agents Sullivan works with would go for this seeing as they make shitloads anyway and wouldn't want to get their licence revoked. Doubtful as well that a billionaire like Sullivan would commit fraud just to pocket a million or two here and there.

The more transfers, the more we pay, the fewer agents - the more money for Sullivan.
No, of course it's not true. It's a ridiculous idea. Firstly transfer fees obviously don't go through agents. They're paid club to club. So for this to work it would require the agent and various people at both clubs to conspire to commit fraud. Secondly anything like this would be so easily discovered anyway, especially as Sullivan's not the sole owner and I'm sure Kretinsky in particular has a watchful eye on the accounts.

I get the desire to believe this sort of thing of the midget cսnt, but it's not helpful, is it? Some people want to just throw as much shit as possible at Sullivan in the hope that some of it sticks when it would be far better to focus on the fact that the man is utterly incompetent as chairman of the club and needs to step down as chief executive, whether he keeps his shares or not.

Fucking hell, and having typed that it looks like according to hammers chat Sullivan has even chucked Salty under the bus now for the state of our club. More platitudes- yes he's been trying to hawk his shit onto us, but SULLIVAN is the one fucking buying it. If it's not Salthouse it'll be someone else conning the idiot.
My old man was a very good tiler and also knew how to cut marble properly for kitchen worktops and bathrooms back in the day.

He would quote a sum for any proposed job and often get turned down as it was deemed too expensive. Coz it's so easy to do init?

There were many times when months later or even in the following years he would get a call asking him to come around because somebody had completely monstered the kitchen or bathroom and the marble was fucked and the missus was in floods of tears so could he please take a look again.

So of course, he would end up charging even more than the original quote to remove the botch job and to re-do it properly.

This is Sullivan in a nutshell. Only he seems to make a habit of repeating the very same fuck up the second time around as well!
Absolutely not going to disagree with that! Buy cheap buy twice. Trouble is Sullivan is such a fool it's buy cheap, medium OR expensive and buy twice because he's so so bad at it.
Buy cheap, by twice, get two brown envelopes. Fuck me! The dots are even numbered for us...

It's certainly one of the things that many of us suspect...but the only reason for that is the player recruitment is so consistently awful and perplexing.
It's vexatious to fans that the money spent for what we get in return as a club on the pitch is useless beyond belief.
So no wonder that the mind starts to boggle and consider other potential explanations for the state we're in!

If there is garbage available we will find it regardless of attitude, competence, age and/or fitness of the player or the board at the time.
Hermandsen for me is the most ill considered. We needed a striker, we signed a mediocre/poor keeper. We needed an energetic midfield player, we signed a mediocre/poor keeper. We needed a dominant central defender, we signed a mediocre/poor keeper.
Oh, and he missed a large part of the last season injured.
This year, Wilson was particularly irksome, old, injury prone and finished. But, goalkeeper was not in the most pressing need of an upgrade so to allow fuck wit Potter to blow £18m on Hermandsen was madness personified.
There may have been comparable or worse players signed but the timing, the expenditure against the background of "we are skint", and the glaring necessity to improve other parts of the team put Hermandsen up there as one of the worst signings to my mind.
Can't imagine  a director of football allowing any manager to waste money in this manner.

Hermansen is an interesting one. On the face of it and in retrospect it looks like a fucking awful move. Came in at a position that wasn't an essential but a 'nice to have' to upgrade- arguably not the biggest priority. Subsequently he was also fucking dreadful.

Massive question marks over the scouting and recruitment here- I don't know what Potter thought he was getting. I never watched him previously so I have no idea if he was actually good at Leicester- I did note his height and saw it looked a bit of a concern but not much. He cannot have been as bad for them, though. He was also thrust into a shit team at short notice that conceded a record number of goals from crosses/set pieces with and without him in the side. The 'defending' around him was absolute dogshit in every game he played especially with the farcical set piece setup. Wonder if he was not fully over an injury.

I also wonder what else the manager may have THOUGHT he was also getting. Maybe at the time he was promised certain other things that never materialised so moved for him on the assumption 3-4 more players were coming in, in timely fashion, because I may be giving him too much credit here but I cannot believe Potter would have been told 'right, you're getting two players' and then decided on a keeper and a left back, neglecting everything else because everyone could see what was wrong. (Although his continued selection of JWP indicates maybe he was?) I don't believe the plan was to panic buy Fernandes and Magassa until it became clear we were looking fucked so I do believe promises were probably made and rescinded later.

Anyway, it looks fucking shit but I say this maybe in hope more than expectation, he is still young and in theory salvageable.

Yeah I feel that Salthouse plays his 'mate' Sullivan like an accordion, convincing him to take his shit or hard to shift clients that no-one else will want, while placing his talented players elsewhere because he knows this is a graveyard. Either Sully is that stupid or a sucker for his 'pal' or Salty has something on him which is motivation to keep making bad decisions.

Kilman will look better of we sign a strong, dominant, vocal CB to play alongside him. He needs to be the junior partner...his stats have previously been very good when playing that role.

He is at least a serviceable option and has shown ability in this league before.

Todibo and arguably Fullkrug are far bigger wastes of money IMO. With both I can make a case for why we signed them, but the proof of the pudding is in the eating as they say, and this pudding tastes rancid.

Kilman has a much better chance of coming good for us than either of those two do at this point.
