The Wettest you have Ever Been At A West Ham Game
The Wettest you have Ever Been At A West Ham Game
Going back decades. When West Ham played at Chelsea in Oct '67 . It rained all day and even getting to the ground I was soaked through .Standing at the 'shed' end which was open terraces in those days there was no shelter. At least West Ham won3-1 but I was ill for days afterwards.

"Watford away in the Championship in November 2003. Terrible 0-0 game and the heavens opened just before kick off with flash flooding all around Vicarage Road as I was walking to the ground. Had a jacket but it didn’t have a hood and I got absolutely soaked through. Can remember going to a home game against Birmingham when Zola was our manager, Diamanti scored the great free kick for the winner past Joe Hart - that night it was sleet so even with a winter coat and beanie hat was soaked getting the tube back to my brothers place in Tooting afterwards."

Agreed with most of the shouts for Oldham in the semi final was teeming down from the moment we got off the special! And just downhill from there !

Oldham! The whole trip was my worst ever away match.
Re: The Wettest you have Ever Been At A West Ham Game
"There was a game at Craven Cottage a few years back, possibly on a New Years Day? I walked from Hammersmith and it pissed down heavily all the way. I think I was in the second row of the Putney Stand where there was no roof at all so continued to get pissed on all game. Game was crap as I recall (Nolan sent off?). Left CC and walked back to Hammersmith, still pissing down hard continuously. One of those games/days when I really wished I hadn't bothered."

"Brighton Away, early 90s 3-0 down inside 15 minutes. Liam Brady missed a penalty. Seem to recall it pissed down on an open terrace"
Re: The Wettest you have Ever Been At A West Ham Game
"I was at that Chelsea game oldtimer mentioned. I was wearing a pacamac! Wettest though, as someone else said, was at Hillsborough for the 1964 Cup semi final. My dad bought towels on the way back to the car so we could dry off a bit. The pictures of the players coming off the pitch at the end are something you wouldn't see now."

"FA cup replay at QPR, 1978. We went 1-0 early on but that was as good as it got and they battered us 6-1. Absoultely sheeted it down, a truely miserable night."

v. Sheffield United - I think it was around Christmas early 1990's and at the side of the North Bank on the 'shelf'

"Same as gph, Oldham away semi-final. But it was the least of my concerns to be honest."
Re: The Wettest you have Ever Been At A West Ham Game
"I saw some footage of the game recently and had totally forgotten how bad the playing surface was by the end of the match. It’s little mentioned when comparing football eras but the playing surfaces, of the top grounds, is these day so much superior in comparison with back then."

"Soaked through, freezing cold, shivering and miserable. This should happen to opera goers, not football fans. Opera fans deserve it."

"8th March 1975, Arsenal away, FA Cup 6th rd, W2-0 Standing right where the covered stand finished, Water was pouring off the roof right on us. Couldn't move, too packed."
Re: The Wettest you have Ever Been At A West Ham Game
March 64 Hillsborough. We beat ManU in the FA Cup semi final. Got drenched at games over the years but that one stands out the most. Steam rising off our clothing in a packed train on the way home.
