The Wettest you have Ever Been At A West Ham Game
The Wettest you have Ever Been At A West Ham Game
Going back decades. When West Ham played at Chelsea in Oct '67 . It rained all day and even getting to the ground I was soaked through .Standing at the 'shed' end which was open terraces in those days there was no shelter. At least West Ham won3-1 but I was ill for days afterwards.

"Cheezey Bell-End wrote... Maybe the coldest can be the follow on thread. Coldest...possibly Forest at Home, New Years Day - no idea when it was though. Sunderland away at Roker in the FA Cup when the wind coming off the North Sea was bitter"
Re: The Wettest you have Ever Been At A West Ham Game
December 1990 at Pompey the away end had no roof in those days. It pissed down all day. To top it all the heating packed up on the coach home. At least we won 1-0 though!

"Arsenal away early in the season during the 90's, strolling to the ground in T shirt the heavens opened, 10 minutes later we were in the Clock End looking like we'd stood in a shower all that time, didn't dry out for hours"

Went to that Liverpool home game mentioned and remember the guttering soaking them. Cheered me up before traipsing back to Exeter soaked to the skin myself.

"I remember the Liverpool game. I thought it was Tommy McQueen he elbowed. I remember it happening because it was a few yards away. It was clearly deliberate. He was looking right at him and split his forehead open. Another thing I remember was that when the rain hit, everyone moved to the back of the chicken run, and a guy a few feet away had a fit and collapsed down the steps, splitting his head open. Quite a bit of blood in that game..."
Re: The Wettest you have Ever Been At A West Ham Game
"A 2-2 draw at home to Liverpool in the late 80s, I remember the match for two things. The first is Ronnie Whelan getting relentlessly booed for elbowing Ray Stewart in the face, the second four a pre-match deluge of rain that broke the guttering on a section of the east side roof which sent a swimming pool amount of water down on the poor suckers below."

"Spurs away 1977 Fulham away 2014 Both were Jan 1. At Fulham I was under cover, but was drenched on the way to the ground. I've been colder, but not cold and wet like that. Maybe the coldest can be the follow on thread."

"Around 1990 Brighton away at the old Goldstone ground Stood on an uncovered terrace and I think they still had the old high fences up. Pissed down all game,we got kept in at the end and lost 4.0 I think. Just to make matters worse we couldn't get a beer anywhere and the car got broken into."
Re: The Wettest you have Ever Been At A West Ham Game
Got snowed on at Gillingham away. Midweek game in February and stand had no roof. It was snowing so hard you couldn't see the other end of the pitch clearly
Re: The Wettest you have Ever Been At A West Ham Game
Southampton away a few years ago. I was about 12 rows from the front and the roof was so rubbish it was like standing outside in the downpour
Re: The Wettest you have Ever Been At A West Ham Game
"Going back (a bit), the famous 2-2 with Sours in 1968, which I attended but didn't actually see. Watch the goals on: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yguQ922RT4 This was the only West Ham home game that I ever got locked out of. Although it poured with rain all afternoon, it was an absolute sell-out. I reached the ground with about an hour to go but they had already shut the gates. When I eventually got home, I heard on the TV that I had missed a classic match. (For you yongsters, these were the days when the majority of spectators could not book ahead)."
