Bollocks to Maguire. We’re looking at the bigger picture. ;-)
Re: Harry Maguire - West Ham United Captain
Could some one point me towards the Maguire thread, I seem to have stumbled into a Brighton thread.

Re: Harry Maguire - West Ham United Captain
The Brighton model works for Brighton, because…… well… they’re Brighton. They have a mainly middle class, happy clappy support with no real rivals. If they do shit, who cares? If their players are sold off, so what? They’ve had no expectations put on them, (by themselves or anyone else) there’s no ridicule to be had for them . Nothing to lose, everything to gain, This gives them the time and breathing space to cultivate the way they go about things. We as a fan base will just not be patient enough. ‘Brighton, no rivals? What about Crystal Palace?’ I here you say. That’s the same Crystal Palace who are about 30 miles away from them and only slightly more relevant, than…let me think, er… Brighton. We are a different animal to most other football clubs - especially the Brighton’s of this world and even especially when it comes to London rivalries, for instance. We’re not as insignificant as say, your Leyton Orient’s or Charlton’s who escape being ridiculed ( and rightly so, to a degree, as their supporters, like us, are certainly not there for glory). But, us on the other hand, are significant and relevant and close enough to be ridiculed and subjected to all round ‘cuntiness’ by Arsenal, Chelsea and to a lesser extent, Tottenham supporters - for more than I care to remember * Now, in a perverse way, it’s those rivalries (along with our East London working class roots) that have given us the character and humour that makes our support as passionate, funny and brilliant, as it is. But, now we’ve sold UP and moved on, I want us to make a better fist of it, and at the very least, try and be a bigger force. However, it seems, even with the new DOF employed that instead of really kicking on we’ll just be at best a glorified, ….BRIGHTON. Good luck to Brighton - they are a well run club and we should certainly take aspects of what they do on board. But, for the reasons I’ve just gone on and on about, we can’t do it completely like Brighton. In my opinion, It just won’t work. I don’t have exact answers on what would work better for us, but I’m pretty sure that following the Brighton model in its entirety, is not the answer. *anyone that thinks that we can seriously enjoy any bragging rights of those teams mentioned having won the 3rd tier European competition is living in a dream world.

I'd be happy with 3 seasons of improvement, yeah. I think you'd have to be a bit of a lunatic not to want that. Who do you think is in the better position going into the start of this season which starts in 3 days time, RM10?

I think this has already been mentioned by someone else, but hopefully Moyes has been told to sit down and shut up now the JWP / Maguire signings are in the bag, and Steidten has control of transfers from here on in. Not hopeful though.

thickastwoshortplanks is in his element today. with these horrendous signings, he now knows his beloved dinosaur will be staying for the foreseeable future. his 2023 Moyesiah calendar will be like a plasterer's radio after he's had a celebratory wank

Lee Trundle 4:07 And just for the added context too, since they got promoted in 2017: Brighton Wins: 6 Draws: 6 West Ham wins: 0 Brighton goals: 26 West Ham goals: 12 Brighton spend: Not that much West Ham spend: Infinitely more And they've absolutely dicked on us the last few times we've played. If that's not a win for the Brighton system over the West Ham system then I don't know what is.

I despair of you crassus, you are so negative about everything to do with this club. It's painful to read. You are the reason people leave this site. You are basically a bit of a cսnt.
Re: Harry Maguire - West Ham United Captain
Bexley Well said mate, consider this, if Paq goes which seems inevitable, a progressive manager would have had nigh on £400m to spend - £400m ffs As for Lizard, clearly a credit in the bank wanker, barely retaining his grip on reality as we slip off the precipice and he is proven wrong

RM10 3:52 Wed Aug 9 Constant improvement over the last 3 years, to the point where many would suggest they have overtaken us and are a much better team than ours, and play much better football than ours?

The Brighton model will have had 200m + off of Chelsea in the space of a year if they sell Caceido to them. They probably already have a replacement lined up should he go. They recognise their place in the food chain and are playing the system brilliantly IMO.

Re: Harry Maguire - West Ham United Captain
If Moyes had been ditched 18 months ago (when he should have been), and a proper, forward thinking manager appointed in his place (Howe or similar), then I think we would be looking at a very different prospect now. When you add up the money spent since and the players already in place, we could have built something special. Players with ambition need a project and a vision to get behind. What they got was tepid, uninspiring, low block, 30% possession, counter-attacking football. The kind of football that attracts players north of 28 looking for one last payday, or ones looking to put themselves in the premier league shop window in the short term. I'd go so far as to say we'd have had a chance of keeping Rice if we'd employed a manager with a vision / project that he could get behind. As it is there was no vision or project and I don't blame him, Paqueta or anyone else who thinks their limited time as a footballer is better spent away from Moyes. We had all the ingredients to push on. 60K+ crowds, a young elite player to build a team around with several other quality players to complement him, and we've totally fucked it due to a lack of ambition or vision from the dwarf. The total incompetence of it all boils my piss.

‘Just because we have added the ageing PL experience first doesnt mean we wont be using TS to add the opposite going forward.’ We have the oldest and smallest squad in the PL. Our u23’s came second in the PL 2 behind Man City 2 seasons ago, and our u18’s won the double last season. The problem is Moyes has a total reluctance to nurture and trust youth and always opts for old experienced players. He has been this way through his entire managerial career, and it’s not going to change.

Surfing, All the best to you too and Merc point taken (Sort of) All I know is for the last 20 years I am usually the one to have a 'give him time' or a 'Dont be hasty' or a ' He sees what we dont and there will be a plan' vibe. But having seen what the Brighton model has acheived, how Moyes seems to frustrate and isolate players especially those with 'falir' and once you lose his card you never get it back. I wanted him to take us to that Cup and we can clap him on his way with genuine affection and move onto a more modern management, coaching and strategy. But the board just wanted to get as much money for Rice as they could (Fair) and sell the club they didn't want to make waves or do anything dramatic and that is why we are here.

When you find this site Lizard please let me know, I need to get away from this site of whiners before I lose my mind. Some positivity would be great.
Re: Harry Maguire - West Ham United Captain
Can it not be possible that it went down a little something like this: TS - i want to add cheap youthful exciting prospects from abroad! DM - I want experienced PL players to hit the ground running DS - crazy idea but why dont we do both? Just because we have added the ageing PL experience first doesnt mean we wont be using TS to add the opposite going forward.
