Ah OK, fair dues. I hope the support don't get on his back as his confidence might be a little brittle, I think he will like and hopefully thrive on being a bigger fish in a smaller pond and get back to some of his old form. I get he isn't a modern day CB as such, but I still think there is room in the game for a stopper type, particularly playing for Moyes.

I think that's what I said. It was in regards to someone saying why wouldn't he get picked for England because Rice did, but nobody was questioning Rice getting picked because he was the best in the position but loads have said (not me) that Maguire only gets picked because of who he plays for. Well hopefully that's a good thing cause that won't be the case at ours and he will need to be better than he has been. He has been much better in the past, nobody is disputing that.. Of course I hope he succeeds I want us to succeed.

fraser - I think you need to get over his poor recent form for the Mancs and see this as a fresh start for him, no point in forever harping on about it. he's clearly a very capable CB and hasn't just become totally shit, so let's get behind the bloke and judge him on his performances for us?

Rice and Bowen were both in top form for us and got picked for England. I think the point is if he shows the same form for us as he has for them he won't get picked. Hopefully that will be a factor in him returning to some decent club form for us.

kylay 2:23 Rice is a regular, Bowen has been given the chance, and I'm sure will be given another. I really don't think Southgate drops players because they play for WH. Happy to bet you fifty quid that he'll play anther game for England.

Hopefully the £200k + a week will soften the impact of moving south. For that sort of money he could buy his own private jet.

I meant in the context of this thread, not in the last 30 years! On second thoughts you might be right, he might well do an Unsworth and ask to leave, you've now given the majority on here some hope now :-)

Not necessarily just him. His missus and kids too. I suppose he could do a Dawson and commute but that didn’t really work out in the end. Clearly you don’t agree but it’s hardly the most stupid comment ever written on here.

ak37 - Tbh I've always had you down as a decent poster, but you obviously don't understand the mentality of top level pro's like Maguire. A 30 year old who has just been captain of one of the biggest clubs in the world, multiple world cup and Euro's campaign etc, but you think he's going to miss his mum because he's moving a few hours down the road? Seriously, have a word with yourself.

That’s the most ridiculous you’ve read on here… you sure Remember David Unsworth? Plus he’s never been further south than Leicester.

ak37 6:49 Wed Aug 9 ''He seems like a proper northerner. Can’t see him settling in the south'' Out of all the ridiculous things I've read that really does top it all.

I reckon you're right Kylay I didn't want us to sign him but if he comes I hope the fans give him a chance and don't jump on his back as soon as he makes a mistake.

Not who I wanted but will improve the team, Now whatever else happens, some out and out pacey signings, up top and on the flanks to make anything like a counter-attack work.

I realise that HM has been signed by a manager we all detest, but he is an England International in one of the best squads England have had in years. Let's give him a chance. Perhaps a move from the Mancs is what he needs.

Crassus Yes. Read MPIs Post now ( can't always get time to read whole thread) And agree. It's not Maguire per se. Just not the direction we should go in again.

So much unbelievable disrespect for Harry Maguire on here. It’s ridiculous. He was excellent for Leicester and remains solid and reliable for England. Man Utd is a whole new world and once the trolls get on your case there, it’s time for a change. Of course he’s made some errors, but I genuinely think he will regain his confidence at ours and add experience and leadership. He certainly won’t give up his England place without a fight. Our style of play will, unfortunately, suit him perfectly.

I noticed on the times they are claiming that we still need to convince Maguire to sign I expect Moyes will need too toss Harry's salad to get this over the line

My thinking has gone round and round about this signing. Start was categoric no. Appears past his best Slow as fuck Deluded and thinks he's still top drawer and will probably think he can just turn up and give 50% and still be too good for us. On loads of money Also United want way too much. Nobody else wants him. We should leave him there sucking up their badly spent money until they understand that whatever we offer is a bargain. Probably wants 3 or 4 Yr contract Age profile of squad remains old Utd supporting MATE can't wait to get rid. But... Still rates him. On the other hand. Defending on edge of area like we do suits him and pace won't be such a problem. Monster at set pieces. Moyes wants him so at least it's a signing. I still hope move breaks down over wages etc. And we get someone more useful and better value.
