I highly doubt a single minded, successful pro like Maguire would take career advice from a grinning weasel like the paddy.

Yeah, De Gea made some absolute howlers last season, but he won the Golden Glove with 17 clean sheets and the keeper always gets the plaudits for that, while defenders often get the blame for conceding goals. Obviously sometimes it gets blamed on the keeper, eg Roberto for us, and rightly so in his case.

IOC. If we get 2 or 3 season out of him. Then it ain't a bad investment. As a ManU season ticket holder been telling for over a season now. The problem ain't the defence. It's De Gea. But the issue is neither fans or the media wanted to dig him out.!

RBshorty I did watch and he did make some interesting points. I grew upon internet stuff so not automatically put off by it. One was: We will have paid around £90 million for 3 centre backs, hard to not see them all play. Need a right wing back as we as Cresswell's replacement. Unless we think Kehrer can really be made that.

A Irish man with verbal diarrhoea has put a video on YT about us and Maguire. Worth a look if you have the time. Why do West Ham want Harry Maguire? Tifo IRL

Sully I think the difference as Scouce Kid alluded to is they're both very solid players and Alvarez too. I am confident that all three will do a competent job for us. It will be dire to watch and we could have got better for less money (certainly the two English players - IDK about Alvarez). But competent.

Fifth Column 1:17 Thu Aug 10 It's all relative though, no? Song and Camara were starters or at least featured for a fairly decent Liverpool side at the time. JWP plays for a relegated Championship team. Maguire perhaps being the exception that he plays for a (slightly weaker United team than at that time) but is also a regular England international. That is just two players. Alvarez largely unknown in this league - so he is unknown. And whatever dross we are planning to bring in that suits Moyes dull strategy.

Maguire club form like that of Moyes reached a zenith during lockdown football with no fans in stadium. Both seem at their best in ultra defensive football formations and both have regressed since fans have returned to stadiums perhaps this is a perfect marriage of ego and defensive football and this season will be an outstanding sucess

Sully Everyone remembers Rigobert Song as being terrible in every match. That's not my memory of him at all. I remember him being outstanding in 2 out of 3 matches but then making huge fuck up in 1 in 3 matches. OK still not great but I don't think he was as bad as he's remembered. Also, I don't think we can put Maguire and JWP in the same category as those players. I'm presuming Moyes isn't making a side profit on the players he's bringing in unlike...

Rossal if you read the Southampton board, that is the one criticism of him - he didn’t get on with being a captain.

Moncurs Putting Iron 10:27 Thu Aug 10 The money we are spunking currently is just this era's equivalent of Rio. Remember who we signed back then with the record fee we received? Rigobert Song Titi Camara Svetoslav Todorov Christian Dailly You could argue one of them made an impact and has a song about him, the rest were fucking flops.

"I had visions of that money being spent of players who, in a years time will again be coverted by the big four and international teams alike." Same, it is so obvious that is the best option. I feel a bit stupid for expecting it to happen to be honest. That £100M should of been worth £200M in a year or twos time. Instead we'll do well for it to be worth £30M. for an astute businessman Sullivan narf seem to be absolutely clueless at how to run a football club as a profitable business these days in terms of playing squad Anyhow, on a separate note..... is Maguire any good as a capitain? Seems shit at Man Utd, uninspiring and not a leader at all...... overlooked by Southgate for a bloke who doesnt captain his club Id rather the armband go to JWP.... he seems to lead from the front.... unlike ol Slabhead

Obviously the lad has suffered sone poor form over the last 18months but he was very good for them in the first couple of seasons I think they finished second in one of them where he was exceptional. He’s been one of englands most consistent players over the last 4 years. To put it into perspective he’s only really had a poor 18months since he played for Hull. As for the price it’s a bit more than I’d want to pay but it’s not outrageous, as good a prospect as he looks Bristol city want 25mill for a young kid that’s never kicked a ball in the prem. Fernando Torres was shit at Chelsea but he clearly wasn’t a shit player Di canto wasn’t great at Sheffield Wednesday. The lad is pretty similar to Zouma defensively but is much better on the ball than him imo plus he has the added bonus of not looking like he needs stretchering off every time he makes a tackle unlike Zouma. I think both him and JWP are solid signings both clearly improve the first 11 and we know the manager will actually play them I actually think it’s a smart move if the club spend the Rice money on proven quality and then we can get rid of the dross like Soucek cresswell fornals Ings and get enough money in to replace them with young upcoming players. Obviously this is where the plan may fall down if Moyes is in control of the budget but maybe they’ve reached a compromise and he gets his first eleven upgrades and the German can now build the squad with young players with big potential

Manuel. That is spot on. We really needed separate threads with hindsight. There is no doubt in my mind the first time Bennie or Bowen jostle and harry for a corner and our new double barrelled Quarterback launches a pinpoint delivery onto his magnificent noggin we will take to him just fine. The timing and the significance though. It was on the same day as Pacqueta revealed that he felt the same as Scamacca and that Man City were well in for him. I distinctly remember seeing them both double subbed in one our Euro games last year and being deep in conversation and thinking that neither seemed happy. t means the dreams, that came from selling RIce, being minted, having a new young DoF that young players respect and like and a Technical Director who favours youth and energy leading to a moving on from Moyesball are well and truly dead for another season. The yourh will go out on loan or be courted and we go into battle with aging Bruisers and Warriors We will go forward with a spine built on pub grub without any a sniff of A La Carte. I had visions of that money being spent of players who, in a years time will again be coverted by the big four and international teams alike. Instead in an all too familiar scenario we are making do with Big four cast offs and the not too bad players from relegated squads (I KNOW that they are of much better quality and stature than of days of old BUT it brought back old memories ok?) Will I support those players to the hilt? You bet I will? Will I admit I was over the top in my doomsday appraisal in January? I really hope I am forced to. But today. As of now. Its all a bit flat.
