Re: Best Gangster movie
"Apart from the well mentioned gangster classics which we all know I can recommend ""A Most Violent Year"" from 2014 with Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain. It's very impressive - more like a study in how fairly ordinary people end up having to behave like a gangster to protect their family and business and probably end up being one."

"Personal favs Godfather 2 Millers Crossing Long Good Friday also Road to Perdition... almost a perfect film... great story, soundtrack and performances... never seen Paul newman better ""There are only murderers in this room! Michael! Open your eyes! This is the life we chose, the life we lead. And there is only one guarantee: none of us will see heaven""."
Re: Best Gangster movie
"Gomorrah is incredible. Up there with the Sopranos for the best gangster tv series. Echo a lot of the movies already said. Just to throw one in the mix, I thought American Gangster with Denzel Washington was excellent, a similar level to City of God. Both a tier below the ones mentioned like Goodfellas, godfather, casino and OUATIA."

DVM Is that the one where the hapless Pole pretends to support West Ham but is totally clueless about the club and football in general?

"I like the one where the skinny Polish geezer with bad AIDS from a backwards village, his wife is getting fucked by some MMA fighter and his son has transitioned to a girl on a school trip to Germany, so in a rage he travels to London and kills a load of cockneys in a pub carpark"

"there's a really good film from 2012 worth finding called 'Lawless'. Based on a true story and directed by John Hillcoat - it stars Gary Oldman, Guy Pearce, Tom Hardy, Jason Clarke, Shia Lebeouf, Jessica Chastain and has a soundtrack by Nick Cave. It's superb"

"Henry Hill : You're a pistol, you're really funny. You're really funny. Tommy DeVito : What do you mean I'm funny? Henry Hill : It's funny, you know. It's a good story, it's funny, you're a funny guy. [laughs] Tommy DeVito : What do you mean, you mean the way I talk? What? Henry Hill : It's just, you know. You're just funny, it's... funny, you know the way you tell the story and everything. Tommy DeVito : [it becomes quiet] Funny how? What's funny about it? Anthony Stabile : Tommy no, you got it all wrong. Tommy DeVito : Oh, oh, Anthony. He's a big boy, he knows what he said. What did ya say? Funny how? Henry Hill : Jus... Tommy DeVito : What? Henry Hill : Just... ya know... you're funny. Tommy DeVito : You mean, let me understand this cause, ya know maybe it's me, I'm a little fucked up maybe, but I'm funny how, I mean funny like I'm a clown, I amuse you? I make you laugh, I'm here to fuckin' amuse you? What do you mean funny, funny how? How am I funny? Henry Hill : Just... you know, how you tell the story, what? Tommy DeVito : No, no, I don't know, you said it. How do I know? You said I'm funny. How the fuck am I funny, what the fuck is so funny about me? Tell me, tell me what's funny! Henry Hill : [long pause] Get the fuck out of here, Tommy! Tommy DeVito : [everyone laughs] Ya motherfucker! I almost had him, I almost had him. Ya stuttering prick ya. Frankie, was he shaking? Re: Best Gangster movie
"My favourite piece of dialogue from a gangster film. Don: Have you ever been sexually assaulted? No, neither have I, until today...on that plane. Spanish Official: What? Don: Yeah, that's what I said. There's me putting my bag up in the cupboard next thing ya know, I feel hands on me. Someone's touched me, touched my front...my front bottom. I can't believe it, I've gone all cold. I look around, he standing there isn't he? That steward with the guilty look on his face. I was shocked, I didn't know what to say. I had to sit down, I was that perturbed. Then his mate, the other one who was giving us all lessons on what we do if we land in the sea. How to wear your life jacket etcetera; He starts off, he starts looking at me all funny...suggestive. Now I don't know if they're wanting me for a twosome or something, I don't know how they work it. But I'll tell you what, it scared me. I was shaking like a leaf, so without thinking I lit up a cigarette to calm me nerves. I was trembling, I was very emotional and that when all the rest of it happened. It's very regrettable. Now, I don't want to kick up a fuss, right, press charges...contact the British embassy. I'd rather not pursue those channels, that's not my style. I'm not that sort of a bloke. I don't want the man to lose his job, and I'm sure he's not representive of all you Spanish people."

Re: Best Gangster movie
The scene in Sexy beast where they think they have got rid of Don and he's on his way back to London. All relaxed and preparing for the night out and then in the mirror a cab pulls up. The other scene that sticks in the mind where he is talking to himself whilst shaving and pisses deliberately over the carpet. Brilliant performance from Kingsley playing the psychotic Don and Logan.

"Gommorah deserves a mention too, purely for its grim reality of gangster life.....the scenery alone makes you wonder how other films have managed to skirt over the truth only showing snippets of their grim climb to the top......in this film they are all still climbing and many don't get near the top...."
