England v Bosnia

"Our boy Bowen starts in 1 of the warm-up games to try and impress before heading to the Euros. Have a good one, golden boy. 7.45pm KO https://twitter.com/England/status/1797683179505275164/photo/1"

"Konsa will probably start alongside Stones as CB. Grealish should have gone instead of Gallagher. Disagree that this is a golden generation as England should always have good international class players players, but half the first team aren't world class and the previous Golden generation had probably 8 or 9 genuine world class players and still got nowhere. We really should have won this competition by now, when you see that Greece, Denmark, Czechoslovakia, Soviet Union, Portugal and Holland have all won it you wonder why we haven't after all these years. About time we did."

"Gordon might be the other option on the left but I guarantee it’ll be Foden under this gormless tool. He’s on record as saying he doesn’t see him as a 10. I also think he’ll start Gallagher alongside Rice as he’ll love his “industry” and work rate. It’ll be him or Alexander Arnold. No need for both Watkins and Toney, especially as Bowen is a further option if it really came to needing a third striker. He’s picked a bunch of centre halfs who have barely kicked a ball the 2nd half of the season. I’d argue that this is the squad he has got most wrong."

"I would have taken Grealish. As a option off the bench you'd fancy him over Gordon and Bowen I think. If we are leading and need someone to keep the ball, win fouls take the sting out the game he is perfect. Gallagher should of been the one dropped, I don't see how he gets gametime. Or leave behind Toney, again not sure how he gets gametime. Braithwaite though for me is the absolute bonkers decision. He would start for loads of fans even if Maguire was going.....so to not take him after slabhead is dropped is astonashing. Southgate yet again leaves everyone puzzled and moaning before the team has even got there. Rather than everyone being excited and optimisitc everyone is now going 'well we won't win it with that defence' The only left footed CB, one of the most in form and the future....has been left behind for Lewis fucking dunk"

"It's true Grealish can be effective coming off the bench and to take Grealish instead of Watkins or Toney is a fair argument for me, a bit surprised he took both when Kane always plays. I wouldn't be shocked if he started Wharton as the other midfielder, Mainoo an option too. Suspect the Palace CB will line up alongside Stones. I watched all of Southgate's presser after the final squad had been announced, he always comes over as very logical, concise and deep thinking, I do think the players enjoy playing for him, but yea I know he has to make it happen in Germany, runners up won't do it I'm afraid. When other countries have had their golden generation they have won tournaments, that's what we have to do now."

"Ron, Gordon's the other option down the left. If he's learned anything he'll have Foden inside behind Kane, with Bellingham and Rice supporting. I just worry he's already got Trent down as the other midfield player and he'll sacrifice creativity further up the pitch"

I've disagreed with much of what southgate has done but I think the squad is spot on. the one minor doubt is shaw being fit but I'm glad he's gone with form players over favourites

"Fraser - how much have you seen of Wharton to justify his inclusion? He spent half the season in the Championship. Flip that with Grealish. Different positions, sure, but Grealish is a match winner who has never let England down. The latter is the exact reason Maguire got picked year on year despite not playing for Man Utd or being absolutely shit when he did. Likewise Eze as the direct replacement. Sure he’s a reasonable player but do I trust him more than Grealish at international level? No chance. Then there is Guehi who has hardly played this 2nd half of the season. He’s an ok centre half but is he more deserving that Branthwaite on Southgate’s selection logic? What about Tomori who Southgate seems to have completely forgotten about because he plays in Italy. It’s all a bit too late in the day for gormless Gareth to try and be edgy and appear to have a personality. He’s going to play England’s best player (Foden) out of position at left wing by virtue of picking no senior left wingers and to include an extra holding midfielder. Anyone with an ounce of ambition knows it should be Bellingham with Rice and Foden at 10 but not on dreary Southgate’s watch. Oh, and given Kane will always play, there was fuck all point in taking Watkins and Toney. It was one or the other and take Grealish, clearly."

RM10 - which of those Palace players shouldn't be in the squad then? JWP shouldn't be anywhere near the squad and shouldn't have been first half of season either. Hope he's not starting for us next season too.

"Yep, fair play to the Nigels. Although I do wonder how much that's also down to a Palace legend managing the England Team there days, it does make me wonder... Eze definitely deserved hus call up though, he's been terrific. And effectively took Maddisons place in the Squad LOLz."

JWP deserved to be in squads in the first half of the season but was never given a chance. His form in 2024 wouldn’t justify selection ahead of the players picked. Hopefully he has a good break & picks his form again under a more positive manager at West Ham Fair play to Palace. 4 players in the squad that they picked up at good prices. Not sure whether they made an attempt to convince Olise to declare for England but could have been 5

"Pagey I'm struggling to see how both Wharton and Arnold offer more than Ward-prowse overall game as a Midfielder. Ward-prowse has all the set pieces and all types of passes in his locker that Arnold possesses, arguably better with his track record on all dead ball situations. He's also more better suited as a genuine Midfielder, whereas Arnold is a jack of all trades master of none and it shows. He's super fit and able to cover more ground than most. He's also extremely experienced which works against Wharton who's only had about 16 Prem League matches full stop just starting out in his top flight career. I'd 100% pick him over those 2, even including his overall seasons form which has been a level above both. Being hyper critical with Southgate but I do think he's missed a trick not having him in the Squad, I'd certainly have him over them two."

"Henderson, Pickford, Ramsdale; Dunk, Gomez, Guehi, Konsa, Shaw, Stones, Trippier, Walker; Alexander-Arnold, Gallagher, Mainoo, Rice, Wharton; Bellingham, Bowen, Eze, Foden, Gordon, Kane, Palmer, Saka, Toney, Watkins The big surprise to me is Wharton. Out of the blue and had no knowledge of him until he fetched up at Palace from Blackburn. And good luck to Bowen, well worth his place."

Unless Dunk is first choice I’d have left him and taken branthwaite who is a future starter. We are a bit lopsided in attack unless Foden gets put on the left. Not sure we needed Toney and Watkins. Only thing in Grealish’s favour is he offers something a little different but he’s just not played enough.

"I do feel Moyes let Ward-Prowse down by how we got on as the season progressed. After initially playing excellently during the 1st half of the season since arriving assisting and scoring for fun and generally making us tick, he couldn't then utilise his ability better and his season 2nd half of the season fizzled out, just as Whartons went from strength to strength when he moved to Palace. For me Ward-Prowse should be in this squad."

"All the right players dropped and literally can't a single piece of shit in there like before with the likes of mount and phillips. Don't reply rate grealish personally as he rarely delivers for england, so fuck him. Just need southgate to grow a pair of balls now as there isn't a better squad at the tournament."
