Euro 2024 - Inc Southgate resignation

Post Phall Throw »

"We seem to have an England v Bosnia thread but not an actual Euro 2024 thread so here it is So, do we realistically think England can win it? On paper we obviously have a very talented squad but I just don't see us going all the way. For me it's ""same old"" when it comes to England. Breeze the group, favourable draw in last 16 and win then up against far superior opposition in the QFs and out. At best I can see us at the SF stage before being beaten again. Winners for me: France, Portugal, Spain Dark horses: Germany - even though it's a home tournament they've been in a consolidation period, could go close Biggest flops: Scotland - no goals scored Top goalscorer: Mbappe I'm just hoping it's a decent tournament with plenty of decent games that's not ruined by VAR (are they using it?) consolidation period but could go close"

Never quite understood the extent of the fuss about Saka And he certainly doesn’t have the level of defensive responsibility that Bowen has Certainly likes a dive & a bit of play acting though

"LeroysBoots 7:49 Thu Jun 20 To be fair he is massively overrated. I'm hearing pundits creaming over fucking Bukake Saka who has zero end product and just looks like a self satisfied cսnt whenever he crosses into row Z and how much of a maestro TAA is despite people actually having eyes to see this cսnt floundering around out of his fucking depth. As for these fucking pundits, do you think they could have found two thicker cunts than Ferdinand and Richards? Pair of chumps haven't had an independent idea between them, thank fuck for the wisdom of the strange woodland dwelling Danish twerp Thomas Frank who is genuinely insightful, like pairing Prof Brian Cox with the Chuckle Brothers and expecting sensible output. But at least there are no fucking lady footballers on the scene. I see they have binned off the lady referee 'expert', she was hopeless. This Euros has so far mostly made my shit fucking itch. Just me?"

I don’t know if it’s arrogance or stubbornness/stupidity. Carrying on with a right back out of position which puts a far better player out of position in turn. Everyone with half a brain has been saying drop him and move foden central. But no. This will come back to bite him in the arse. Once again the left flank looks shit. But seen as he only took one injured left back there is noone to play there better than Trippier. The left winger is sitting in the bench again because of TAA. Fucking madness. If we win this tournament it’ll be in spite of him.

I'm impressed by the Thomas Frank fellas punditry. Having said that have you seen Moysie? Just as dull as his tactics.

Southgate is a proper Moyes level idiot. Unchanged side from the one that was dogshit against a lesser team than Denmark. I can't fathom it. Arrogance surely. Drop TAA and fucking Trippier for fucks sake.

"A very interesting stat from our first game was that Kane received more passes, 6 , from Pickford than any other player. Now I assume they mean passes when in theory pPickford was just lumping it forward in the hope of us winning the first/ second ball, that was British football from 20 years ago, but maybe we’re still learning about passing to feet."

"JoJo I like you am enjoying the tournament, and hope we go well, and hope Southgate recognises his failings and counters them. But for those of us that look critically at the game and not just blind support of whatever is happening, there is undoubtedly discussion about where the man in charge is falling short. Support the team, not the regime. Southgate is a 'young' manager with an 'old school' mentality. He seems to have decided he needs to 'do something clever' and that is TAA in midfield, rather than just pick the best available central midfield we have, and it could be seen in the last game it will cost us. We have strength in attacking midfield like never before, and yet rather than play Bellingham alongside Rice, he'd rather play him at 10 instead of Palmer or Foden, play TAA out of position as some kind of pet project, and play Foden out of position too. The man is an ass. I hope we go all the way, but in my opinion (which I'm happy to change of TAA ends up being recognised as one of the players of the tournament and an unparalleled success) success will be in spite of Southgate, not because of him. Being critical of Southgate doesn't mean I can't enjoy the tournament."

Southgate needs to play Foden as a 10 or drop him. Playing him on the left is pointless. Either play Bellingham and Rice with Foden ahead or play Rice behind Bellingham and Foden. Not Foden on the left. Southgate needs to be ballsy and make some tough decisions. I still think if he gets the team right we will win it. Especially now Mbappe has fucked his hooter.

"BTW FWIW - IMO TAA cannot be selected again unless we are well ahead. He may be able to drop a 50 yard pass as accurately as a quarter back throws it, but his defensive game is a shambles. His attitude to tackling and tracking back is lazy and downright incompetent. His positioning is laughable. Keep him out and we will go far. He is too much of a liability to keep playing."

joyo 2:36 Thu Jun 20 No joyo - Nobody said its Moyes fault you helmet. People have pointed out that Crook criticised Southgate for selecting square pegs on round holes and not being positive enough with the players at his disposal and holding them back. Sound familiar? Lo and behold Moyes was on hand to defend Southgate to the hilt. Almost as if he himself was being personally criticised. The ego has landed again. Moyes simply has to defend the indefencible.

"Unfortunately, a cretin like Southgate doesn't fathom that the reason Trent in midfield works at Liverpool is because he's the extra midfielder there when tucking in from fullback...the additional player that creates the overload...not the default player who is in the role. Southgate is pretty much the major weakness in the England setup. The players are all upper Premier League standard...but Southgate is lower Prem/Upper Championship level at best. A poor tactician making an easy job look hard, with a weak set of results against the team's peers and a good set of results against inferior teams where the players greater abilities mask his own shortcomings. His departure can't come soon enough for the national interest, much like Moyes at West Ham, and if he has any sense he won't attempt club management but will look to transition into a Technical/Back Office role where he can use his ambassadorial demeanour more effectively."
