Euro 2024 - Inc Southgate resignation
"We seem to have an England v Bosnia thread but not an actual Euro 2024 thread so here it is So, do we realistically think England can win it? On paper we obviously have a very talented squad but I just don't see us going all the way. For me it's ""same old"" when it comes to England. Breeze the group, favourable draw in last 16 and win then up against far superior opposition in the QFs and out. At best I can see us at the SF stage before being beaten again. Winners for me: France, Portugal, Spain Dark horses: Germany - even though it's a home tournament they've been in a consolidation period, could go close Biggest flops: Scotland - no goals scored Top goalscorer: Mbappe I'm just hoping it's a decent tournament with plenty of decent games that's not ruined by VAR (are they using it?) consolidation period but could go close"

Re: Euro 2024
"Echo most on here. The comparison with Moyes is, for me, very obvious. I do find it quite funny that all the other England fans are now sharing our pain.... FWIW - My 2 penneth, last night just totally confused me. I was left just completely and utterly bewildered by it all. I mean, what even was it? It didn't resemble anything that I can even really comment on. It was so bad it was weird. I am beginning to wonder if there has been a bust up or a breakdown behind the scenes which is being covered up??"

Re: Euro 2024
"Southgate is basically Sgt Wilson from Dads Army I say, chaps, chaps can I have your attention, chaps. Ah, right, could you all kind of run around a bit, keep yourselves nice and loose. That's it. Now, after training we have, let me see, ah, yes media training and cliche training, remember this years is 'we knew there would be some noise'. Now i'm doing a tactical session between 3.00pm and 3.05pm and I'd rather like it if you could all attend as we have a game coming up so if you could that would be lovely. See you all then, i'm off for a nice cup of tea. FFS. Put Gordon the left, drop TAA and put Foden in his proper position and Bellingham next to Rice. See if that puts a fucking spark into them"
Re: Euro 2024
"Harsh on Moyes, Southgate has many riches to pick, but in defence those players were shit yesterday against an ordinary team playing with effort. Kane,Bellingham and foden were top shit and I would drop them for Slovenia."

Re: Euro 2024
"In my life time I've never seen a fluid passing England team in a competitive tournament. I'm still baffled as to why that is? It used to be because our league was route 1, no flair etc.. But that changed years ago. And all our squad play in flair teams (Man City, Arsenal etc..) I dont even think this is a Southgate thing. There is just something weird about English players. And any player who has that confidence (e.g. Foden) looks like a fish out of water in an English team. I dont think it's about formation or players he picks. I really do think it's the players mentality when they play for England. Maybe they need a hypnotist?"

Re: Euro 2024
I think Southgate was planning to go after this tournament anyway but will be interested to see what reaction he gets from Premier league clubs who next need a manager. Probably similar to Moyes I imagine One of my questions has always been .... who the hell is Steve Holland? On his wiki page I learnt he was appointed an assistant at Crewe by Dario Gradi at 22. Gradi had 'coached' him as a schoolboy it seems

"Imagine Talksport paying someone good money within the game to work there for a bit and to offer his ''expertise'' and then tries to shut someone's (correct) opinion down because he doesn't have his coaching badges, you couldn't make it up. Glad that this vile, arrogant man has made himself look a complete cսnt, the cսnt that the majority of us knew he was all along."

Re: Euro 2024
"I've always said, he's like the English version of Moyes. He removes all joy in the game, plays a safety first suit style of play no matter who is available to him and thinks shoe-horning players in to an unnatural position will work on the biggest stage. the Phillips comments are just the icing on the cake ?üòÇ. his Scottish clone apparently got larey on talksport during the week when anyone dared question Southgate's medieval playing style"
Re: Euro 2024
Cholo I've been thinking the same think about England under Southgate. I find it quite amusing that everyone thought we were greedy for wanting Moyes out (for those that did anyway) and reckon we should be content with shit football and mid table because that's where we are. But now it's England doing the same thing under Southgate it's now totally unacceptable and he should be sacked mid tournament!

Re: Euro 2024
"He has to change it for Slovenia surely? If he plays safe and keeps the team/tactics the same and we fuck up and finish 2nd in the group (or worse) then he will be universally slaughtered and rightly so. At least if he changes it and we still fuck up, he can say he tried to be flexible and utilise the squad, depends how stubborn he is. The players know this isn't working, it's written all over them so he must sense negativity in the camp which will hopefully force his hand. Found the rantings from Shearer and Ferdinand maddening, it was only 5 weeks ago that these cunts were telling us we should be grateful for the football offered to us by Moyes only for them to lose their shit when England look very similar."
Re: Euro 2024
"Watching England these days is eerily reminiscent of West Ham under Moyes. Zero thrust, no cohesion, sticking to favourites to the detriment of the team, lead8ng to confused players often played out of their best position, riding their luck. Can't wait for a manager that knows what he's doing, has a plan and can adapt to changes in personnel."

Re: Euro 2024
"He must be further away now from knowing his best team/formation than he's ever been. He was probably planning wholesale changes for Slovenia but doubt he can risk that now as need to win the group. The one big change he needs to think about is Watkins for Kane and change up how we play, but can anyone see him doing that? Needs to get Palmer and Gordon on the pitch too."

Re: Euro 2024
"Texas - But there isn't a proper replacement, that's his point. It's not an excuse of course, but he's saying we don't have any other players who can play that role exactly the same as Phillips did, it's pretty clear what he means. There are more questions that answers now and he has a lot of thinking to do before Tuesday."

Re: Euro 2024
"Was a mind-boggling quote about Philips “We know we don't have a natural replacement for Kalvin Philips. We're trying different things”. A real WTF moment! All hail Kalvin Phillips. LOL, if he was that important WHY didn't he pick him? Oh that right he's been shit! And why wait for the finals of the tournament to ""try different things"" what did we play all those friendlies for?............... Why not instead just play a press resistant using someone like Mainoo or Wharton and keep the ball? That way you don't need to worry about chasing the opposition all over the fucking pitch."

Re: Euro 2024
"The Phillips comment is very worrying as it's an admittance that he doesn't has his team where he wants it to be, plus it's a kop out of course. At this point I think we can safely say we ain't winning this ting, or even coming close. That said we will very likely win the group and believe we will play a weakish side in the last 16, weaker than Denmark, anyhow. So the hope is that once the QF comes around it's all been sorted, but that would be some turnaround as there are so many things wrong all over the pitch, even one of these simple optimists would have trouble being, erh, optimistic. Sort it out waistcoat, you're a fucking embarrassment."

Re: Euro 2024
"Some good quotes here from Walker:!!!! LOL On whether Gareth Southgate tells the team to sit back: ""Not at all. The manager wants us to play free, attacking football. Sometimes in tournament football you have to manage the game."" So it's the players who are shit and there's no leadership from anybody on the pitch. Senior players are not bringing the team together, Kane is not a good captain for this. Pickford is the only player who seems like he gives a shit ""Everyone wants us to steamroll teams three or four nil but that's not football these days."" Hang on a minute he plays for Man City, the team that steamrolls teams three or four nil for fun......... Stop making excuses, just put your hands up that it wasn't a good enough performance, oh and there is a reason Southgate relegated Middleborough??????."

"England gutless ,waistcoat should have been found out years ago. Players standing about uninterested ,basic passes were abysmal . Italy no better . Germans look miles better than anyone else,"

Re: Euro 2024
"Awful performance by England, lucky to get away with a draw. Dithering Gareth.............And there was me thinking we had all these breaks in the League each season for pointless friendlies that meant to be the games we experiment in?"
