Euro 2024 - Inc Southgate resignation

Post Phall Throw »

"We seem to have an England v Bosnia thread but not an actual Euro 2024 thread so here it is So, do we realistically think England can win it? On paper we obviously have a very talented squad but I just don't see us going all the way. For me it's ""same old"" when it comes to England. Breeze the group, favourable draw in last 16 and win then up against far superior opposition in the QFs and out. At best I can see us at the SF stage before being beaten again. Winners for me: France, Portugal, Spain Dark horses: Germany - even though it's a home tournament they've been in a consolidation period, could go close Biggest flops: Scotland - no goals scored Top goalscorer: Mbappe I'm just hoping it's a decent tournament with plenty of decent games that's not ruined by VAR (are they using it?) consolidation period but could go close"

"Christ, do people still don’t understand how VAR works after all this time. ‘They should have at least asked the ref to look at it’ is absolutely nonsense. If VAR is unsure, then their job is to do nothing. It’s only if they believe the ref made a clear mistake that they ask the ref to look at the monitor to see if he agrees that a mistake was made."

"The usual was it wasn't it debate on here, I have no clue if it was a pen or not, but IMO it should def have gone to VAR at least, I mean fuck me they look at far more trivial things than that, so can understand Clark's anger. Come across some comments from Scottish fans and tbf most are saying fuck the penalty or not, the set up in a must win game, i.e five at the back one up to and one shot on target all game in a must win game is a disgrace and they want Clarke out."

"Taken from Sky. Supporters, though, leaving the Stuttgart stadium in a rage were blaming one person: Steve Clarke. ""Terrible - absolute nightmare,"" said fan Stuart Gray. ""Steve Clarke at his best - too negative. The 75th minute before making a substitution - what's all that about?"" Little appreciation for the 60-year-old leading Scotland to back-to-back Euros. The clamour was immediately for David Moyes. Rolfcopter!"

Have seen the ‘penalty’ incident Would normally see them given but with the ball on his right side the Scottish player extends his left leg in an unnatural way to initiate the contact. Bit of a Vardy then. Looking forward to the third games where there is jeopardy & then the knockout games where the tournament really starts. Boost for England as the Scottish fans can stay on to get behind their United Kingdom brothers.

"Side of Ham 1:41 Mon Jun 24 ''I’m guessing sales of Argentina shirts will now drop in Scotland?'' Lol, definitely a sense of irony about that! Stevie Clarke was asked after the game if he had spoken to the ref (about the penalty) after giving the interviewer a puzzled look he said 'how would I speak to him, he's from Argentina, I doubt he speaks the language, why's he even here, why isn't it a European referee?' I actually like Clarke, a proper football man and tells it how it is, and tbh I wouldn't have minded the sweats going through, their support has been immense out there."

"Scotland have been shocking, what happened to the half decent side over the last year or so that beat Spain, etc? Is Clarke definitely leaving? Have to remember he's done a good job overall and believe he is contracted until the world cup? But yea if he does go the job is Moyes's? Swiss should have beat zee Germans, Vargus running offside for the second 'goal' was inexcusable, was looking right across the line and had acres in front of him, really piss poor."

"Good chance that win will see the Hungarians into the R16? Mind you whomever gets them will have an almost guaranteed QF berth, they may have beaten the Jocks at the death but lets face it they are just as shit! Moyes to be the next Sweatys boss i reckon."

"That was so brutal I actually felt sorry for them after getting really absorbed in the game. Until I remembered if that had happened to England they’d be celebrating like they won the World Cup for days. However, that was an absolute nailed on penalty and if that had happened to England I’d be absolutely fucking furious."

Zero shots on target against Hungary in a match they have to win is poor. Hungary aren't that great but have one or two very decent players. Can't say the same for Scotland these days.
