Euro 2024 - Inc Southgate resignation
"We seem to have an England v Bosnia thread but not an actual Euro 2024 thread so here it is So, do we realistically think England can win it? On paper we obviously have a very talented squad but I just don't see us going all the way. For me it's ""same old"" when it comes to England. Breeze the group, favourable draw in last 16 and win then up against far superior opposition in the QFs and out. At best I can see us at the SF stage before being beaten again. Winners for me: France, Portugal, Spain Dark horses: Germany - even though it's a home tournament they've been in a consolidation period, could go close Biggest flops: Scotland - no goals scored Top goalscorer: Mbappe I'm just hoping it's a decent tournament with plenty of decent games that's not ruined by VAR (are they using it?) consolidation period but could go close"

Re: Euro 2024
"ATBOG 100% The incompetence if the officials in the PL has probably left people confused as to how it should properly work. Anyway, on to teams still involved, Croatia have to find a way to beat Italy tonight to stay involved. It might be Modric's last game at a tournament. Could be worth a watch."
Re: Euro 2024
Yes hg however given the fucking shit version we've been fed by the bent premier league and the mental gymnastics the VAR idiots at stockley employ is it any wonder it's being questioned left right and centre by punditry that also seem to get very jingoistic whenever the home countries play?

Re: Euro 2024
"Lets remember the Jocks love gloating and laughing at every misfortune that befalls the English, so definite penalty, there, there, how tragic never mind we don't fucking care, apart from having a wee laugh at your miserable fate. Pub league produces pub league players plus a few premier league players, still produces a pub league team even at international level, oh and a pub league manager to boot (although on the manager front we may very well well be on equal terms)"

Re: Euro 2024
"Let's make this simple VAR would have looked at it, but VAR did not intervene VAR gets involved when it views the Ref has made a mistake and asks the Ref to look at it again. That is why you always here the commentator say..""he has been asked to go and look at his decision again, expect this to be overturned"" VAR is not there to get tge Ref review every call, thank God, only where they deem tge Ref has made a clear and obvious error."

Trundle Their leading top scorer is a German Defender! Joke Footballing Nation. And to think they have a few Premier League players to call upon and they produce yet another wank group stage exit.

Re: Euro 2024
Every news outlet are saying VAR did not look at it. There was also no sign of any communication with the Ref. Usually you would notice it as he would be clutching his earpiece if they were looking at it.

"Did VAR not look or did VAR look and agree with the ref? I’d like all communication between ref & VAR to be broadcast on tv & in the stadium Anyway , Scotland are out No loss in terms of football as they were abysmal"

Re: Euro 2024
I have worked out there is a nightmare scenario for England. England screw up and only draw 0-0 or 1-1 with Slovenia. Denmark beat Serbia convincingly by two goals. Denmark win the group. England finish runners up and face Germany in the last 16 (and lose). It wouldn't surprise me at all if this plays out.

"RootsRadical 1:36 Mon Jun 24 You don't seem to understand VAR. Of course they looked at it. There role is only to intervene if they feel the Ref made a clear and obvious error. You say every pundit. How many of them would have been so sure or even mentioned it, if it happened at the other end of the pitch?"

Re: Euro 2024
"It was a penalty and VAR did not even check it. Every pundit on the TV and radio said stonewall penalty, as I did at the time. They showed endless replays of the the defenders knee going into the back of Armstrong's leg at speed causing him to fall. Also a very clumsy challenge from behind when Armstrong had his body between himself and the ball. If they got the pen and converted with so little time left it would have been a different game in the end as they wouldn't have been chasing a goal and open to the counter attack when they conceded. They are terrible though, worst attacking stats at the tournament and probate weakest team there."

Re: Euro 2024
"The philosophy is all about ceding the initiative to the opposition, spoiling and frustrating until they make a mistake, taking advantage and undermining confidence. It looks shit, and must feel shit to play in such a dishonourable manner. Both Scotland and England have stood out as being shit in this way. No point gloating at the Scots’ rightful demise - England will be next as soon as they face anyone decent."
Re: Euro 2024
"Scotland player had to be stronger unlucky , but summed up there performance in the Euros slow , weak and a bit thick . Yeah England similar , but we have more quality and plenty look crap and win stuff ."

Re: Euro 2024
"The previous VAR comments are fair enough, they probably did look at it and deemed it no pen, if they send the ref to the monitor then they are basically telling him it's a pen. The difference here compared to the PL is that the commentators for the PL games have access to what's going on and will tell the viewer if something is being checked or not, here we don't know, I believe?"

Re: Euro 2024
As said VAR does look at it and only tells the ref to go to the screen if they are saying THEY think its a pen Obviously they looked at it and agreed with the referee The Argentinian referee ... as said a sweet irony

Re: Euro 2024
Irony isn't lost either with the Ref being an Argie after years of Jocks celebrating Maradonas handball goal. Suppose they're all burning their Argentina shirts this morning.
