Euro 2024 - Inc Southgate resignation

Post Phall Throw »

"We seem to have an England v Bosnia thread but not an actual Euro 2024 thread so here it is So, do we realistically think England can win it? On paper we obviously have a very talented squad but I just don't see us going all the way. For me it's ""same old"" when it comes to England. Breeze the group, favourable draw in last 16 and win then up against far superior opposition in the QFs and out. At best I can see us at the SF stage before being beaten again. Winners for me: France, Portugal, Spain Dark horses: Germany - even though it's a home tournament they've been in a consolidation period, could go close Biggest flops: Scotland - no goals scored Top goalscorer: Mbappe I'm just hoping it's a decent tournament with plenty of decent games that's not ruined by VAR (are they using it?) consolidation period but could go close"

"None of this is a surprise is it, we all knew that we are never going to win fuck all with this cսnt in charge. He sees things differently to everyone else, his positive appraisal of mediocrity is fucking laughable. The sooner we lose the better then this fraud can fuck off."

Feeble. One goal in three games. Minimal effort and belief.

"Only watched the highlights, suppose it's a case of more questions than answers again. At this point I think we have to write Southgate off in terms of fixing this, he clearly doesn't have any clue whatsoever and is now just making it up as he goes along and hoping for some magic to win a game, the same as Moyes did with us. So based on the fact that we DO have some very good players, the hope now for me is that the players themselves go out there and perform to their potential, but in the modern game without any game plan or tactics coached into them that isn't likely to be enough. I'm happy to play the Dutch, enough of these easy knockout games that we've had in recent tournaments, it will be a great occasion and maybe just what we need to get going. Clearly, the team will be the one that started the second half here."

"So we get the Dutch unless the Czechs beat Turkey. Then we'll get third from the Belgium group, and I'l be staggered if it's them. Extra incentive to get behind Soucek and Coufal."

"And as Danny Baker just said ; BBC opening game, 2026 World cup 'We are delighted to be joined on our panel, by the former England manager Gareth Southgate' ""Nailed on. Like going to the House of Lords. Being paid bundles"" . ."

"the most worrying thing was hearing southgate say that gallagher had played well. not starting the tournament with a proper left sided player like gordon and wanting someone partnering rice, he's now left himself in an impossible situation where he refuses to drop foden, bellingham or saka and because of his obsession with a second holding player, doesn't have the courage to change things."

"Here is Kane ...He does realize they dont hand out medals for winning the group? and maybe the easiest group in this tournament, 2 goals we have scored, TWO, won a single game and he is going to ""enjoy the moment"" fuck off Harry you're taking the piss. https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/live/c8000g2nj98t?post=asset%3Ad8828571-80db-40ba-845b-a650093a1ccf#post If you look at previous tournaments we have played our best football in the knockout rounds. Always the objective is to get through the group without any mishaps. We can improve, we know that, but you have to enjoy these moments when you finish top."

"I think we're going to end up getting the Netherlands in the last 16, if it goes on group winner with lowest points plays third place team with most points. Don't really see it written down anywhere how it's done but that's what i assume. So I think we have to hope the third place team in group E gets more than 4 points although I'm not sure that's possible."

Well topped the group but God it was dire again. For two and a half games you wouldn't think Bellingham was one of the top players in Europe and as most already said Gallagher was not the answer. Got nothing to lose by playing Palmer and possibly Gordon but feel for Foden not playing in his usual position. Can't believe Wrighty thinks Saka should play at left back!

"Southgate pretending he might consider Palmer ahead of the dismal Saka Mainoo, Gordon , Palmer & Watkins should start next time You’d want him to buy your lottery ticket. Has extraordinary luck of the draw in the teams they face."

"Not taking Grealish and a fit LB is beginning to look very foolish. Too many similar players in that squad, he's not using Watkins or Toney or any of the other CBs so why he took them all and not Grealish and the next best LB is beyond me, and why he's experimenting now with the midfield and wide players is also beyond me. 3 different midfielders to partner Rice in 3 games, none have worked. Bellingham has been pretty annonymous as a 10, yet the only system he hasn't tried yet is Bellingham as the 8 and Foden as the 10 in his best position. What a fucking idiot. Like the look of Cole Palmer, drop Saka who's had enough chances now."

That was fucking abysmal. How any of the players can even try to defend that with the old cliches. Sure the subs improved us a bit- they could hardly make us worse- but they were the desperate equivalent of chucking shit at the wall and seeing what sticks. He will still start with the same 11 as today but mainoo instead of Gallagher. We were still fucking woefully short of opening them up though. There is zero joined up thinking behind any of this. Wright suggesting Saka at left back. What a fucking clueless cսnt. How about an actual left back there?

"Well done Southgate, Hot on the heels of losing to Iceland (pop 382,000) you just about hang onto a draw with the mighty Slovenia (pop 2 mill). It’s now very obvious he doesn’t know what he’s doing and therefore should go."
