Euro 2024 - Inc Southgate resignation
"We seem to have an England v Bosnia thread but not an actual Euro 2024 thread so here it is So, do we realistically think England can win it? On paper we obviously have a very talented squad but I just don't see us going all the way. For me it's ""same old"" when it comes to England. Breeze the group, favourable draw in last 16 and win then up against far superior opposition in the QFs and out. At best I can see us at the SF stage before being beaten again. Winners for me: France, Portugal, Spain Dark horses: Germany - even though it's a home tournament they've been in a consolidation period, could go close Biggest flops: Scotland - no goals scored Top goalscorer: Mbappe I'm just hoping it's a decent tournament with plenty of decent games that's not ruined by VAR (are they using it?) consolidation period but could go close"
Re: Euro 2024
"Didn’t bother watching our game last night dodged a bullet apparently, Czech’s were well unlucky to go down to 10 early think they would have beaten the Turkish otherwise.Ref dished out 14 yellows apparently??? Germany win the tournament they look miles better than anyone else although early days still. Home advantage will see them through."

"Yep, Southgate gets lucky again, although the likes of Italy and The Netherlands is hardly a pushover. El - When you say you expect us to go out in the QF I doubt you really mean that? Yes we have been shit, but we could yet still get our house in order, IF we do we will beat Netherlands/Italy, both are very average and Koeman is a bigger clown than Southgate."

Re: Euro 2024
Unbelievable luck in that draw there. Southgate is absolutely blessed. I expect us to bow out in the quarter finals but let’s face it with the squad we have that’s a free pass to the final. Just a shame about the man in charge. Yup palmer is now the anointed one. So he will just start on the left wing with mainoo starting the only change to the last game. If he puts palmer central then I’ll know for sure it’s something personal about foden. It can’t be anything else with how obstinate he’s been in marginalising him for the last four years. Bowen through doing nothing wrong at all has now fallen behind palmer and Gordon in the pecking order which is a huge shame. However. Now is the time for Southgate to put the big boy pants on and get this squad to click and play to something like their potential. Don’t care how he does it but he’s got a fucking golden opportunity here. For me it’s got to be Rice Bellingham Palmer (seen as foden isn’t there) Gordon Kane Saka Unless he takes Ian Wrights mental advice and puts Saka at left back. Never mind the attacking positions. The decision which will kill us is not taking a fit left back unless shaw can somehow slip in like he hasn’t been out of the game for four months.

Re: Euro 2024
"England's opponents are now R16 – Slovakia QF – Italy or Switzerland SF – most likely Austria or Netherlands This reminds me of the 2018 WC, England were pretty awful in the group back then but rewarded by what looked looked a very easy draw to the final, Gareth certainly has the midas touch when it comes to the draw in big tournaments! Slovakia are no push over but you would think it shouldn't be that hard for England to dominate and control that game, lets hope we DONT get an early goal, as that's when it often turns to custard as we look like we are reverting to sitting back and defending that single goal rather than go for a second, ala Serbia game!!! Italy in Euro final, Croatia in WC...........etc etc"

Re: Euro 2024
"maverick180 11:52 Wed Jun 26 Re: Euro 2024 The problem is that Jude Bellingham is the most overrated player of all time, and the whole team is being built around him I'd say that's Cole Palmer. His sub appearance was no better than Bowen's against Serbia but he is now the second coming? It's like no matter how good or how shit he does, it's the best thing ever. Whatever, play him all you want. But you can't have three fucking CAM's who all want to play in the same space as your midfield. But if Foden doesn't come back, that should the Waistcoats decision for him: Bellingham - Rice Bowen/Saka - Palmer - Gordon But let's be honest, Bowen isn't seeing another minute at this tournament. Non-league to the European Championships? Don't give a fuck, mate, it's all about Palmer. I think Bellingham is class, but he's not been the same since his injury. Strolled through the last 1/3 of the season and I genuinely think he's fucked. I would drop him and have Foden in the 10. And Austria have been my favourite team to watch so far. If we don't, would love it if they won the thing."

"I like the defence of these lacklustre group game performances from some of the players, that ""England have done the same in previous tournaments"". Like it's some kind of blueprint for success. It's not like we're losing count of trophies won is it?"

"Been impressed with Austria too along with Spain & Germany. Everyone else left have been pretty average, so far, but you can't usually judge until you reach the business end of the tournament. Sometimes teams that just scrape through qualifying or look very ordinary early on end up winning it or going deep, likewise some that look great early get knocked out unexpectedly."

Re: Euro 2024
"Tell you what’s been underestimated, it’s Austria, which has been a real breath of fresh air. Love what they’ve brought to the party and it seems after what they did to the Dutch, nobody will be looking forward to playing them. One that caught the eye was the right-sided full back Stefan Posch. Plays for Bolonya and it may be worth following his fortunes. As for England, watching that is a chore."

".. Its not been great. can we take any positives ? Won one drew two, it's the same record as France, who people aren't writing off Denmark are still unbeaten. Slovenia are still unbeaten. A particularly negative group only produced seven goals total - Should play much better against stronger open opposition . * Clutches at straws * ."

Re: Euro 2024
"Bellingham definitely isn't overrated. He's a great player. However he has been utter shit, like all the rest of them this tournament. But they are all just victims of being placed into a shit 'system' with no apparent gameplan. Just rigidly lined up to be compact and then try and get the ball to Saka. Bellingham was on the right wing at times in the second half. It's no wonder he looked lost. We had five central midfielders on the pitch at one point. Southgate is out of ideas and just chucking players on not even in a formation or with a system in mind, just hoping they'd figure it out on the fly. It's so disappointing given how good most of our players are."

Re: Euro 2024
"What players in that squad play for their league side the same way they do for their national side? Jarrod Bowen that's who. We should be singing 'No Scotland, We Party' instead it's painful watching these excellent players struggle to adjust to anti football."

"It takes a huge amount of shitness to have a team containing the best La Liga player, the best Premier League player, and the top goal scorer in Germany, and have them perform like that. I said right at the start that Southgate would lose us this tournament."

Re: Euro 2024
"La Liga player of the year is overrated? Southgate feels the need for 3 cms with Bellingham as the 10 and Foden out wide. It's overkill, we just look so disjointed when we play. I cant work out who is meant to be playing where at times. Foden is fantastic but he wont cause many wing backs an issue on the outside. 10 is also his best position. Bellingham and Rice can do the job in the middle with Foden as the 10. Then coupleof wingers that can run and cause problems. Not that we can expect Southgate to ever dare do anything so attacking minded. Blokes a weirdo."

Re: Euro 2024
"Is he fuck overrated. Geezers on course for possibly getting a Ballon Dor after being voted La Ligas best player this season. Southgate has reduced both Foden - Premier Leagues player of the season - and Bellingham as a shadow of themselves the second he calls them up, it's not a coincidence."

Southgate’s now in a position of being slaughtered in defeat either way so why not make it entertaining? He can then go off and make another pizza advert…..

Re: Euro 2024
"Massive - We're def in the easier half but it's likely Holland next and then Italy, so hardly a cakewalk. Maybe he's finally found the right partner for Rice in Mainoo, some said that at the beginning, and we should see more of Palmer now, so 'possibly' better performances to come, but his loyalty to some players is ridiculous really when looking at some of the quality on the bench. Was listening to Dean Ashton earlier, who generally speaks a lot of sense, he said in tournament football if you have two or three poor games then you have to come out no matter who you are, but to be fair to waistcoat it's a massive call for him to do that, if he left out the likes of Kane, Bellingham, Saka on Saturday and we lost he's be fucking slaughtered by many, no point saying otherwise."

Re: Euro 2024
"What have I done to deserve 2 gutless mind numbing managers in charge of both my beloved Teams, as all this Ceefax Football isn't worth watching. It's fucking torture and what makes it worse is the Team is littered with quality. The approach to games, tactics, in-game management, Team selection are all wrong. Thank fuck we were lucky to be drawn in a piss easy group. We would have likely qualified in 3rd place too what with the new Format change making it easier than ever to get through - Scotland LOL. And because we've been afforded a lucky easy group to navigate through, we now have an excellent chance of going deep in the Tournament due to the other half of the draw now being loaded with all the quality. Better to be a lucky manager than a good one I suppose but fuck me the watch has been horrific, even though we are blessed with unbelievable talent."
Re: Euro 2024
"Kane’s a big part of the problem. Lacks the pace and movement to create space and struggles to press high up the pitch. Foden should be central and Bellingham tried deeper or dropped. Mainoo helped and Palmer had a nice cameo at the end. But so did Bowen first game. On the subject of Bowen, looks like he’s been scapegoated for his 20 min appearance against Denmark ( in a struggling England side ) and wont be seen again. Same applies to Eze as Southgate’s going for the scattergun trying everyone out in progressive games but with the same set up and tactics. So wont drop Kane, Bellingham or Saka. The latter two have largely been ineffective aside from the first 30 mins of the first game and Kane is playing like a man past his sell by date."
