Euro 2024 - Inc Southgate resignation
"We seem to have an England v Bosnia thread but not an actual Euro 2024 thread so here it is So, do we realistically think England can win it? On paper we obviously have a very talented squad but I just don't see us going all the way. For me it's ""same old"" when it comes to England. Breeze the group, favourable draw in last 16 and win then up against far superior opposition in the QFs and out. At best I can see us at the SF stage before being beaten again. Winners for me: France, Portugal, Spain Dark horses: Germany - even though it's a home tournament they've been in a consolidation period, could go close Biggest flops: Scotland - no goals scored Top goalscorer: Mbappe I'm just hoping it's a decent tournament with plenty of decent games that's not ruined by VAR (are they using it?) consolidation period but could go close"

Re: Euro 2024
It s about time Rice was made captain Kane and Walker no influence on those around them and can't drive the team forward like he can. I thought he was a growing influence last night and unlucky to hit the post We have all seen the job he can do at club level and he has the potential to step up again imo

Re: Euro 2024
How dare Jude of the Rovers not score a hat trick in every game at 20 One thing Ancelloti has realised that as he learns the game it is best to use his knack for a crucial goal in a more forward position

Re: Euro 2024
"""The only player in that team that could have done that"" That's a massive overhyped statement right there. . We have some excellent players, you only have to see them for their clubs. Of course he's an outstanding talent but he's scored 20 odd goals for Real Madrid.. Palmer and Bowen scored 20 goals one in an absolute basket case of a team one in a negative sit back anti football team. He may get to be best player in the world but he's not there yet. I've watched him both legs against City, both legs against Bayern and 4 games in this and he hasn't stood out in any of those games as the best player on the pitch, I'd he was the best in the world you'd expect him to do so."

"With his long, expressionless face and lugubrious manner, Southgate appears to be some kind of Plantagenet AI. But his algorithms are dodgy - you can tell by the way he blinks that it’s all wrong. Hope the Swiss finally rid us of this curse."

Re: Euro 2024
"People seem to forget that Bellingham is so young but he is the only player in that team that could have done that He has that touch of magic that means he comes up with those things Like many he looks frustrated and is in danger of a red at some point You can understand his frustration, works under Carlo Ancelloti at Real & then turns up for England & it’s gormless Gareth from Croydon gibbering at him"

Re: Euro 2024
Only that goal and the winning goal in the 1st match and 2 MotM awards. All whilst having to put up playing in Southgates poor tactics. But other than that...

Re: Euro 2024
"Like you say, their awful play acting and time wasting came back to bite them in the arse, remember Fiorentina.. We scored a perfectly good goal within the alloted time and eventually cream rises to the top. Like Bowen for Moyes, Bellingham saved Southgate's bacon and not even his negative tactics can prevent that magic moment."

"As for Bellingham being overrated...that's why he's currently the best player in the world, producing and inspring his Team mates in big moments all season long."

Re: Euro 2024
"It's all very reminiscent of Moyes time with us. Mostly dogshit Football but due to the amount of quality in the Squad, the player's somehow find a way to get a result in spite of such gutless, clueless tactics. These Teams produce moments of brilliance simply because they're too good not too, however poorly we are playing and Southgate was a whisker away from winning the last one."

Re: Euro 2024
"Yea I suppose I did toss out a cliche without thinking it through, Akanji yes, not sure about Xhaka though. I would have been gutted had we gone out, at least this way, even if we lose to the Swiss, we have a week long build up and still have a vested interest in the other games. At this point I've given up hope of seeing us play well, fast tempo etc, if we win on Saturday it will be no doubt be another grind, could easily go to pens."
Re: Euro 2024
"I don't know about none of theirs getting in our side, I think Akanji and Xhaka improve us massively. But yeah we have much better individuals over all than them. But they're a much better team on what I've seen so far. Was a weird feeling was gutted we were losing but also a bit relieved we didn't have to watch another turgid performance. I swear we were worse than any other time in the tournament, especially after taking the lead."

Re: Euro 2024
"These lack of performances really are baffling, I mean FOUR on the spin, depsite the clown Southgate it's just fucking odd considering the talent we have? I was sitting there in added time at 90 mins feeling gutted and in disbelief that Iceland was happening all over again, Southgate is one lucky cսnt. He didn't have a clue what he was doing with the subs and we sat back again at 2-1. Nothing is changing and I don't see any logical reason why it will on Saturday. Not one Swiss player would get in our side but I'm not confident at all. We were a minute away from some on here being absolutely bang on about what would happen in this tournament, David Moyes will be asking you if you have your coaching badges!"

Re: Euro 2024
"- Bellingham returning to Germany and scoring a last minute worldie - Kane Germany top scorer in hus 1st season there and who never wins a Trophy - Our side of the draw opening right up for us - A West Ham Forward in the Squad (and a decent ex-WHU Midfielder) - Southgate's redemption in Germany for missing that Penalty back in Euro 96 at home against possibly the Germans again Sometimes the Footballing God's have it written in the stars. I think we've got half a chance of winning it, I really do. Some of the successful Teams manage to keep picking up results even whilst playing poorly. And I wonder if Bowen fancies scoring another last minute winner in a Final? Timing, luck and a sprinkle of genuine World Class talent can be enough. We will have to get playing though at some point ffs... Screaming out to play 433 for me."
