Euro 2024 - Inc Southgate resignation
"We seem to have an England v Bosnia thread but not an actual Euro 2024 thread so here it is So, do we realistically think England can win it? On paper we obviously have a very talented squad but I just don't see us going all the way. For me it's ""same old"" when it comes to England. Breeze the group, favourable draw in last 16 and win then up against far superior opposition in the QFs and out. At best I can see us at the SF stage before being beaten again. Winners for me: France, Portugal, Spain Dark horses: Germany - even though it's a home tournament they've been in a consolidation period, could go close Biggest flops: Scotland - no goals scored Top goalscorer: Mbappe I'm just hoping it's a decent tournament with plenty of decent games that's not ruined by VAR (are they using it?) consolidation period but could go close"

Re: Euro 2024
"Also Ally McCoist 'I will be astonished if the referee doesn't award a penalty' In other words, like all the others, he knows it IS a penalty, he just doesn't think it should be."
Re: Euro 2024
"Surface you mean this Ally McCoist: Former Scotland and Rangers striker McCoist, meanwhile, suggested VAR should not have intervened given it was not a ‘clear and obvious error’ from Dumfries. ‘I’ll give you my tuppence worth right now,’ McCoist said. ‘The fact of the matter is that the defender is going to block the ball and, in truth, Harry Kane has kicked him because he’s followed through and he has to take the shot on. ‘It’s not a penalty for me but as soon as the referee goes over… I certainly don’t think for a minute that it’s a clear and obvious error.’"

Re: Euro 2024
Of course it was a bloody foul - are you blind as well as stupid? The only issue is most Prem refs wouldn’t give kit unless backed up by VAR.

Re: Euro 2024
He won't be dropping Kane. No manager would be dropping the tournaments highest goal scorer going into the final.

Re: Euro 2024
"Let's hope Southgate has worked out that Spain are to potent an attacking force to be stymied and yesterday's passage of play in the first half will be something he builds on. If he benches Kane, I'll even consider taking back all the rude things I've said about him being a Plantagenet misery-face who blinks weird."

Re: Euro 2024
"BillyJenningsBoots 6:20 Thu Jul 11 The first I knew of the foul was a reply showing Kane sneakily looking up at the ref after he was caught, and then roll about in agony after he realised the ref didn't see anything. *Kane bought the foul, and sold it to VAR. Great for England, not so great for the game of football. *this doesn't mean I want England to lose"

Re: Euro 2024
"Southgate has mentioned Spain will have one more rest day than England which he said is a ''concern'' so a bit negative, also made a comment on Shaw which suggests he won't be starting on Sunday. These games are highly tactical to a point where it is absolutely vital to have your players drilled correctly, during the game too, and I'm going to put some faith in Southgate and Holland to do that as they seem to be good at it. The game might be settled by one or two flashes of brilliance and we do have the players for that, may only need a Foden or a Bellingham to do something special."

Re: Euro 2024
It's got all the ingredients to be a great final . Spain have looked the best side throughout the tournament. But there's always the chance they've already peaked . And England are peaking at exactly the right time .

Re: Euro 2024
Trundle no one saw the handball.... Loads of people saw the replay of the studs showing - I called it a penalty even before then... but had I seen the handball too I would've expected it to get chalked off... but the replays didn't show the handball.
Re: Euro 2024
"""those of us that actually get it right. Oh and of course it’s a fucking penalty."" lol yeh you really ""get it"". I was very complimentary about Southagte's ability to beat middle of the road and mediocre teams, but when it really came down to it he had failed against the biggest teams. Maybe he'll put that right on Sunday."

"It weren't a penalty, but not was it such a poor decision it's worth all the bitterness from the English haters. Just have a slice of GUTTED and pray that we lose the final. That'll cheer you up."
