Test cricket will not die so long as England and Australia back it and it is still viable (i.e. the ECB and Cricket Australia still make money from it via TV revenue and ticket sales). I believe the BCCI are indifferent to test cricket as IPL makes all the money. I think the 50 over World Cup will be the thing that makes way. I think the 2027 edition may well be the last given how rubbish the 2023 edition was.

The players themselves want to earn as much as they can so will go for the short form as their career is short so make as much money as they can.
