The best players and managers want to play in the best competitions. They also want money. The most aspirational will end up in the top clubs. We remain just outside that but are getting a bit closer. Credit to everyone who got us here!

I think past managerial hirings have been down to our standing within the game at the time. Previously we got around this by keeping things relatively 'in-house' now we are firmly looking outside which has often been difficult for us to get our preferred choice. Believe it or not I think this is where Moyes has done us a big favour as now the more upcoming managers can see the potential managing West Ham has and now it is actually a good project to take on. It will be difficult but I think many of the more ambitious managers out there will prefer the rebuild and the fact there is space in the squad to rebuild and quite a decent youth team to tap into. As long as they get assurances they will be backed which Steidten will now be able to assure them of as that is surely why he is there.

"Hopefully so, Manuel. I'm sure that most of our better targets would prefer to wait and see if they can nab a job at a higher profile club, so the sooner Liverpool, Man Utd, Barca, Bayern, etc. sort themselves out the sooner that we can pick up the best of who's left."

"C&P Guardian JUST A NAUGHTY BOY? If there‚Äôs one thing West Ham fans probably wish more than anything else, it‚Äôs that people unconnected with their club would stop telling them to be careful what they wish for. These put-upon C0ckneys have, in recent months, heard why a Moyes in the hand is better than any number of R??ben Amorims, Julen Lopeteguis or turtleneck-wearing young Germans they‚Äôve never heard of in the bush because ‚Ķ well, they should be careful what they wish for. The implication is clear ‚Äì that having seen their team win Tin Pot and to still be in with a slim chance of qualifying for it again this time ‚Äì West Ham fans have been spoilt and should be grateful for their lot in life. Never mind that it involves paying through the nose to sit in a soulless athletics stadium, near a soulless shopping mall, watching an often soulless team dotted with some outlandishly talented players surrender 80% of possession to rivals, many of whom are their significant inferiors. Just be careful what you wish for. One thing West Ham fans almost certainly didn‚Äôt wish for was to see their team go 4-0 down at Crystal Palace inside 31 minutes last Sunday, before running out 5-2 losers. It is a result that appears to have sealed the fate of their manager David Moyes, who has long divided opinion between those supporters who think he should be allowed walk away when his contract expires this summer and the going is good, and those who insist he should have been binned off last summer when the going was even better. To be clear: Moyes has done an extremely good job, as he never tires of chippily reminding anyone who questions his popularity among the club‚Äôs fanbase who are tired of his unique brand of pragmatism. However, playing percentage football with the likes of Lucas Paquet?°, Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen in your side is only as entertaining as the results it brings, and having won just three matches out of 12 against the teams above them in the league, the club hierarchy, who made their money with a range of products designed to spice up the love lives of their clientele, have decided they too would like to experiment and try something different to the managerial equivalent of the missionary position. While no official decision is likely to be made on Moyes‚Äôs future until West Ham‚Äôs battering at the hands of Pep Guardiola‚Äôs Manchester City on the final day of the season, West Ham have already sounded out Lopetegui and on Monday welcomed Sporting manager (and Liverpool target) Amorim to London to talk turkey over a potential move. Young, bearded, hunky, about to win his second league title and hugely sought after, the young Portuguese is everything the man he might replace is not and is believed to have been offered a package to overshadow anything he might have got at Anfield. According to his Wikipedia page, Amorim exudes ‚Äúa positive outlook and a laidback, conciliatory demeanour‚Äù and ‚Äúhas consistently emphasised that he refrains from engaging in discussions about referees with the media‚Äù, a state of affairs that again suggests the man could scarcely less Moysie. Upon his return to Portugal, the beaming 39-year-old manager had little or nothing to say in response to waiting reporters beyond telling them he‚Äôd ‚Äúsee you on Saturday‚Äù for the press conference before Sporting‚Äôs next match against Porto. Early reports suggest West Ham are unlikely to get their man, but the East End jig looks well and truly up for Moyes."

"Agree with ur thinking Justin. Purely based on records with other clubs. Although there is always a number of variables at play ( budget / spend, squad inherited ) but Loptegui does not seem to build anything that lasts at least from his stats. Sporting coach, Fonseca seem to be about making youth a foundation of squad building and for that reason alone its appealing. I would also not be overly upset if Gary O’Wall got the gig. Impressive work at Bournemouth and Wolves with a new, possession based approach implemented. I suppose we dont know if he can take a team from mid table to top 6 but definitely think he would improve us and at Wolves has shown he is not afraid of bringing thru youngsters. I guess he may not be the sexy foreign coach but he’s shown already he can improve 2 squads"

"Scott - Of course, at least we are now acquainted with each other so you never know ref the future, but yea it does reek just as a bit of ''promotion'' from both sides. If Liverpool don't want him I suspect he may stay put for a bit longer, in the same way that Alonso is. Both got heaps of time to climb the managerial ladder."

"Manuel He may be out of reach, but if he's prepared to talk to us, then we've got to have that conversation, even if it leads to nothing, (which is seemingly might). If he says no, we move on. I do find it hard to believe that Sullivan is so proactive and ambitious that we would be talking to a highly rated manager and at this stage of the season. So I'm not reading too much into this."

Need to move very quickly - if you look at our squad it's frightening how high the turnover of players needs to be for next season (Ten plus) If we do our usual club dither over manager and transfers it will be a very tough season next year

"Happy to see we are aiming high but I don't think Amorin is realistic. For a start he's not out of work and his stock is very high right now so IMO at a minimum he would want a club that at least is in Europe next season. It's likely just smoke and mirrors from both sides. Fonseca is more realistic and would be happy with him, like the majority would no doubt."

"Fonseca is perhaps back to being the top target if the rumor that Amorim has turned us down and his interest was maybe to get Liverpool to make him a firm offer? Saw this quote from Fonseca on how he sets up Lille to play the game................ “The essence of this team is to control the game, to keep the pressure, and to win the ball back high up the pitch, but above all, it’s about controlling the game by dominating possession. We strive to be a team that is dominant, and that reacts quickly when we lose the ball."""

I reckon Sullivan is doing less and less with the club. With each passing day. He’s business partner has passed away. (Who lets face it. The club was his passion.) Has to listen and work with new partners. Who definitely want a return on their investment. A less taxing deal with the LDCC. And a new wife. Who he would I imagine like too spend more time with.? Sure he loves the DEAL. All them alpha dogs do. But at nigh on 80. He’s only coming out swinging for the blockbusters. Selling the team. Or flogging the odd superstar. He’s pass the point of worrying about who we get coming through the door. That’s Tim’s department. That’s what I pay him for.!

"The recruitment has been better, lately, Zico. Kudus (23), Paq (25, when signed), Alvarez (26). In the past we've been severely limited by a lack of cash and tended to buy good players who were toward the end of their careers, or mavericks that other clubs didn't want to take a chance on. Now with the stadium income a good businessman would have a next 5-year business plan which would give us a chance of challenging for the top 6 every year. Hopefully, that man is Kretinsky."
