"Been through bad time lately with suffering with this. Dark thoughts as well. I know some posters on here suffer with this. Anyone come through the other side of this shit?

"A number of posters have been yellow carded and told to stay off this thread unless they have anything constructive to add. This is a thread that has been very useful to so many, for any other posters with scores to settle, argue on another thread. This thread is sacrosant.Thank you"

"Tom, I am so sorry to hear that you are going through tough times. There is a lot of good advice below and it might help you to make a note of those ideas you think will work for you. Please try to replace negative thoughts with good ones if you can and set yourself realistic targets. I am sorry that I cannot go into more detail, I am experiencing some health issues. I have prayed for you. God bless you."

"Just seen the Eddie B thread, unbelievable really, fuck the football when this stuff seems rife at the moment, why are so many blokes affected now, has it always been like this? Seems to be late 40,s early 50,s it strikes or comes to a head Not just on WHO but lost a couple of old friends the last few years, not least Clive who was a few years older than me and the most happy go lucky bloke you could have met, hung himself in his garage, and no one had any idea he was suffering from depression. Get bouts myself for no particular reason, always just knuckle down and push through it, go for a run, do some full on exorcise and keep busy, never lasts more than a day or 2, just hope in the years ahead it never gets as bad to think of ending it all, to those out there or who have posted here, remember your not alone, if it gets bad, just get some help, see the GP, just don’t think it’s the end, there are millions of us suffering in silence with you, some more than others, just don’t end up like Eddie or Piggy or maybe others on WHO that have just disappeared over the years and we never knew why. Get a new hobby, get an interest, get a reason to get up in the morning, change jobs if you don’t like it, fuck the money, do something you like or always wanted to do, its never too late to go back and learn something new, actually know a bloke whose in his late 40,s, hated his job, so is now an apprentice electrician for another mate, off to collage every week, earning fuck all but far happier and in a few years will be back to making good money again. NEVER give up, you will come out at the end of the tunnel and you may have to go through again, accept its going to rear its black, dark ugly head, but never let it win........."

"I am not qualified to offer any solutions and am not going to try. But if it's any comfort to anyone, many years ago after leaving school I was very lonely (no-one near me had gone to the same school) and I felt very isolated. I used to hate Sundays dreading going in to work the next day. Not sure this is anxiety/depression but it's not very nice. Somehow I survived and am still alive 60 years later. This is just to say that there may be light at the end of the tunnel and you can survive with a little good fortune. Keep hanging in there. I wish the very best to anyone suffering at the moment."

"mashed in maryland 9:10 Fri Jan 17 90 minutes stood around a football pitch shouting ""encouragement"" at your team also seemed to release a great deal of pent-up frustrations, even if they were not football related. A gentle ripple of applause at a favourable VAR decision doesn't quite have the same effect"

"Lily Hammer 7:34 Fri Jan 17 I've seen and heard this talked about loads as well but the problem is that like anything it could potentially become a crutch, and I don't think I've ever met a single person who is or has been a heavy user of these types of drugs who has anything closely resembling a healthy mind, or life in general for that matter. For what little its worth I think there's truth to the talk on this thread about it being linked to anger, and a lot of (not most) blokes these days fall into the shit because of comfort. We're naturally aggressive animals and if there's no way of channeling that energy it can eat a man up from the inside. You'd be surprised how well a few months of rigorous and hard training in the gym can absolutely turn someone's life around, (mentally as well as physically) cos that aggression is being put to use, and there is absolutely no detrimental side effect of getting fitter and stronger. Not saying this to shit on your suggestion but joining a boxing gym or even a normal gym is probably a much better bet for the average man than experimenting with hallucinogens, especially if they're already unsure of their own mind."

"Has anyone suggested taking magic mushrooms, yet? No joke. Mental health experts can no longer deny the results on what were previously called cases of untreatable depression. Not to be taken down the pub or in a rave, but somewhere and with someone with whom you feel comfortable, and ideally have some privacy. People who had this “treatment” often described the effect the same way: like a reboot of the brain. Google magic mushrooms depression and you’ll find lots of recent articles about this."

"Block 5:01 Fri Jan 17 I've been here nearly 3 years. All those on my team who do talk to me (i.e are not being overtly racist) want to talk about is work, cricket & Allah saving my life. They're not paying me for the first, the second bores the pants off me and I learnt long ago to swerve all forms of religeon. I go in, do what I'm required then leave - as it is I'm about to enter the 3rd year of a 1 year contract. The work's good and the cause it supports is good. The people are ignorant muppets. Two out of three, as the song goes... dolph: BASTARD!!!!!!"

"I know this will come across as a shallow thing, but if you want someone to talk to I'll happily share my number and we can talk. I don't know what depression feels like, I cannot relate in that way, but if I can help in anyway I will. First chance you get, talk to someone, professional or otherwise and then seek help. The slogan it's okay to not be okay has never been truer and your feelings are not your fault. Good luck fellow Hammer, my offer is open always."

"Maybe we've (all) got too many ""must to"" activities in our lives to make and keep the personal bonds that give us a sense of ""belonging""? I much prefer my own company these days, but will socialise occasionally. That being said, my nomadic lifestyle tends to preclude much social activity. There's nobody at my current location - at least from work - that I have the remotest interest in ""bonding"" with, and not that much to see/do outside work. That leaves my trips out of wherever my current posting finds me, or. being thoroughly modern, informal chat sites like this; not enough for some, but suits me fine. Something to look forward to - however ""trivial"" - helps. I found an old jigsaw about 2 years ago, and I already have planned where & when I will start work on it as being able to do so will indicate I've completed many other things I've set out to accomplish. What does help (me) though, is making some ""personal time""; a period when I do something for me - and only me. It's not being selfish - or anti-social."

I get depressed due to loneliness. I have reached out to people before tried to make new friendships and rekindle old ones and had them literally slam the door in my face. Its making me more and more bitter towards people in all honesty. I'm not a horrible bloke but its becoming that way and I can see why people are utter cunts sometimes.

"Wasn't it agreed by most top people in the mental health sphere that one of the main causes of depression is suppressed anger? Suppressed anger can be an underlying cause of anxiety and depression. Anger that is not appropriately expressed can disrupt relationships, affect thinking and behaviour patterns, and create a variety of physical problems In other words better out than in."
