Such an important player for us - even today when we had that brief good spell in the first half, it all went through him. Now he is tense and flat footed, like he has fallen out of love with the game, and it affects the rest of the team. I really fear Paqueta is broken.

His form has dipped yes, but he needs an outlet up front. Antonio is like a dog chasing a balloon, Dogshit Danny isnt up to it and Fulkrug is injured. Im more concerned with our defence than Brazil's No.10

That’s a bold statement to make without a word of explanation. Anyone would think you’re just an angry social case with nothing much to say.

He was dropping deeper in the second half yesterday where he was able to turn and face the game, which made a difference, first half however he was a liability as usual.

He needs to up his game.

We need an alternative. Allows us to sub him or not start him some games without our creativity drying up. Soler is hopefully the solution?

Competition should also hopefully ensure he ups his game. He is liable to dwell on the ball too long. Gets caught too often and dispossessed or can be guilty of trying the quick flicked pass too often to create something and exposing us to a counter. In other words, decision making about “when” to try passing the degence splitting ball needs to  improve a lot.

Lets see if Soler’s arrival addresses lack of creative options and / or Paqueta’s game

He covered every blade of grass yesterday. Was shattered at the end. I think he feels he has to make things happen all the time. Sometimes it doesn’t work. We would be much worse team without him.

Didn’t watch yesterday as I had social engagements (cocktails at the Warsaw Boulevard) but what I have seen of him this season concerns me. His head’s not right perhaps due to the allegations and opposition break-up play specialists are targeting him. So now we have alternatives in Soler and Guilherme, perhaps a spell on the bench coming on with less pressure on later in game?

Agree that he needs to make sure he does the simple things a bit more consistently - not always looking for killer ball. He has to play as a 10. He is just not disciplined enough to play as an 8. It’s good we have soler, someone to push him as I feel like he thinks he’s the main man right now.

When we don't have Paqueta at the moment there is no playmaker or vision in the side. And he does get stuck in too with ball recoveries.

And he's the one playing the dink balls to Bowen, the through balls to Kudus. He's the artist in the team and we have to make allowances.

He's similar to Di Canio back in the day and the response now is similar to at the time. Di Canio didn't turn up at away fixtures, his corners were shite, he wanted to take every free kick, and he sulked and stropped....but he brought magic to the team and he just had to be accommodated.

Players like that by their nature are inconsistent, but they're also what you watch football for...the moments when they do something that is akin to art.

I'm always sadder to see a West Ham teamsheet these days, and see Paqueta isn't starting. The expectation goes down about 3 or 4 notches.

Love the guy.

Agree with a lot of that but he has to get better at recognising when and when not to try and be clever. There is no way Pep at Man City would have tolerated him giving the ball away cheaply so much either if he had got his 'dream move' . I also love seeing him on the team sheet as it raises my expectation that I could see something few other players can do. I dont think his team mates will be happy with losing games to cheap mistakes. Man City is a free hit because you would have to be an idiot to not see their squad is much better than ours but losing to teams we should be beating because of it wont be appreciated.

I thought he was poor first half, but was better second half. When he was better so was the whole team. The calm ball out of defence practically on our goal line started the move which Kudus should have scored from and our following momentum in the second half

I can see him playing with Soler in some games, maybe with Soler in front of him and Edson or Guido.

I love watching him, but he can obviously be very frustrating to watch too.

A Jekyll and Hyde player.

I have a lot of time for Paqueta. I think he is one of our best players. I enjoy his one touch attacking football.
BUT that very one touch football and his risk taking gives the ball away and it lead to 2 goals yesterday.
On the other hand, when he is on the ball the expectation is there and rightly so as he makes things happen and feeds the ball forward, in particular I remember to Kudus a few times, which lead to some great attacking moves.

Can this go on?
Can Lopetegui cut out him giving the ball away?
Do we just take the good with the bad?

"I must confess that this all seems to be driven by an undercurrent of ""The PL has a brand, the CL has a brand, the FA has a brand. Our sponsors pay (good money) to be assossiated long-term with that established brand and will not tollorate changes or challenges to the format of that brand"". Leicester learned the hard way. Ourselves, Brighton and Newcastle are being warned off. Both barrels are trained on Villa for the next 5 years for pissing on the brand's fireworks; even our future monarch's support will mean nothing. England, despite providing the majority of the elements - the golden egg-laying geese - of that brand will have little or no say in how things develop."

"""Are these new details?... apparently 60 people placed bets of between £7 and £400 and winnings totalled £100,000."" The only thing slightly damning for Paq is that the bets were placed on a island where his mates are from. To be fair you don't need to know Paq as well as his mates would have done to think betting on him getting a yellow is a reasonable bet. The numbers involved hardly look to be worth his while. Looks a weak case to me. Unless their are more details we don't know. Like text messages etc."

"BIG IF, but if we get the players in that we are currently being linked with then I don't see how Paqueta gets in the starting line up anyway. Aleix Garcia is a better CDM playing alongside Alvarez. Jota Silva would be far better suited to the LW position. Kudus as a 10. Same would obviously apply to JWP (and Soucek). Poor old Paq would spend his last few months on the bench."
