This reminds me of something Ann Leslie said a while ago regarding the Daily Mail. She said the paper and the readers have a sort of pact. The readers love a bit of outrage and moral panic so the paper confects it for them. It is a win/win.

The fact that some screenwriter and director have covered them doesn't make it ""woke"" in itself. The ""wokishness"" comes from HOW it is covered or portrayed. Black footballers have been harrassed by the police in the past. False flag terror operations have happened (although they are thankfully a lot more rare than conspiraloons believe). So covering such issues is not in itself ""woke"" - in the same way that covering other rare events, such as a fire on an oil rig, is woke. ""Woke"" boils down to how issues are covered or treated. Although I'm not convinced that, in the current climate, either plotline will be told with a great deal of reality or nuance! There is a lot of shit, woke television about."
