w4hammer In general I agree with you 100%. I just don't agree with you on this particular programme for the reasons I explained. If you read the book then you'll see clearly that the two woke characters in that scene were supposed to be twats. The male character did indeed embarrass the woman friend but that was because he was a bit pissed and went a bit far. But it didn't come across at all to me that he was wrong in what he was saying - just that he was a bit pissed and didn't pull his punches.

There was a scene where the amputee (an ex soldier) tears into a woke young ""woman of colour"" and her equally pretentious white male friend basically for being woke, paedo excusing twats... and because she'd slagged off the army and he defended them and asked if we should have sent a philosopher into Afghanistan and how would that have gone after 9/11. The two woke twats in that scene were clearly the ones meant to be idiots. It was a brilliant scene. There are multiple sympathetic white characters in the programme. You're just looking for reasons to be offended. JK Rowling got dog's abuse for the book (that was turned into the tv programme) because it was insufficiently woke. For maths degrees, professors are being pressured to explain how they are presenting a “multicultural and decolonised view” of the subject. In a recent consultation, the Quality Assurance Agency, which advises universities on course standards, said maths professors need to “present the work of a diverse group” of mathematicians, and ensure students are aware if they had “connections to the slave trade, racism or Nazism.” A group of professors will warn on Thursday that such guidance “risks politicising the subject of mathematics and presenting a skewed perspective on its history.” 'Personally risky' They said in a joint letter, seen by The Telegraph, that it also “infringes on the academic freedom of mathematicians to teach their subject according to their best professional judgement”. However, they warned that academics “who challenge orthodoxies on topics such as gender identification and diversity face physical intimidation from student activists”. “Many mathematicians see it as personally risky to suggest that 'decolonising the curriculum' might not be the best way to encourage more Black and minority ethnic people to take up mathematics,” they added."
