Black Bird first two episodes have been superb. Ray Liotta's last acting role. Available on Apple TV and of course Cinema HD and Kodi.

"I thoroughly enjoyed the first ep of Freddie Flintoff trying to get a load of Preston kids into cricket, none of whom had picked up a cricket bat in their lives - as it's a posh people's game. On BBC iPlayer."

"Anyone watched For All Mankind on Apple TV? I had been quite enjoying the first season and some of the second, before it descended into an extremely unsubtle lecture about how all women are brilliant and strong and brave and clever, and better than all men who are stupid and weak and cowardly and flawed."

"Yep, I agree with a lot of that Nagel. They made a big thing about Chrissie Hynde’s involvement. They could just as easily had Shane McGowen in it and making a thing of him being inspired to make punk Irish rebel songs. It would have been equally as irrelevant but he wasn’t as good looking and didn’t shag Steve Jones. I still watched it though. It was mildly entertaining in a car crash sort of way"

"Only saw the first couple of episodes of Pistol. Awful writing, terrible casting, poor directing. The bloke playing Malcolm McLaren looked about the same age as the one playing Steve Jones. In real life he was 10 years older. For some reason Chrissie Hynde was a major character. Quite a lot of blatantly made up bollocks in it. Lonely Boy is a good book, but it seems to have been very freely adapted, to put it politely, and was written by an Australian who'd previously written stuff like Strictly Ballroom and Moulin Rouge. He clearly knew fuck all about what he was writing about. Danny Boyle is a great director but his work here was shit too."

"I just finished Pistol on Disney +. It was a bit shit and embarrassing at times, but watchable all the less. I‚Äôm not surprised that John Lydon slated it because the person who plays him sounds like a right cսnt. Now, we all know that he is a cսnt, but not in the same way. It is supposed to be based on Steve Jones‚Äôs excellent book Lonely Boy."

"Alfs - Well, there were enquiries with the plods shambolic handling of the case and while no charges were brought the consensus was that because it was gays that were murdered a homophobic issue was probably at play. i think I read that four out the five cops that were on the case have since been promoted. Have you seen 'Des' ITV mini-series about Dennis Nielsen? it's okay, but not as good as Four Lives. I finished Sherwood - fantastic TV."

"Good shout about 4 Lives, Manuel. How fucking useless are our cops?! My Springer Spaniel would have worked that on out in a day. It reminds me of the Post Office debacle, where Post Office owners were prosecuted for fraud, Did no one think that hundreds of Post Office owners had all of a sudden tried to steal from them. Frightening that common sense seems to be disappearing."

"Kermode is very hit and miss. He has a very public blind spot for certain directors. (""My mate Billy Friedkin."") And Danny Boyle are two that come to mind. And seem's very cautious not to upset Disney too much when reviewing Marvel or Star Wars Movies. As for The Boys. It's fucking ace. Ain't seen any of the new season. But will do a binge session when I get a day off in the month."

Isn't this very Fred and the box set recommendations one of the only reasons to use this site during the summer window? Sometimes you don't want a mainstream review with Mark Kermode seeing how many times he can get 'remarkable' into a sentence. You really want a hairy-arsed middle aged West Ham supporter to tell you if you're about to piss away six hours you'll never get back. It's saved me untold times. After a while you get to trust certain posters and can be reasonably sure they'll point you at something interesting. Likewise there are posters whose recommendations you swerve completely. Not naming any names but these films go along the lines of 200 black labs trapped on a US submarine that has been targeted by the Germans because these labs have been specially trained by the US Marine Corps to end the war for the USA. The only person who can save the day and win the war for the USA is Tom Hanks on a racehorse that can hold its breath for a really really long time.
