Stayed up until 3:45am watching the Oscars.... up at 7am for work.... must be fucking mental... Highlight was Emenin jumping in unannounced singing Lose Yourself .... and Martin Scorseses' face not knowing what the fuck was going on... all the expected winners with Parasite thrown in (still not seen it yet)... but overall enjoyed it

"You can gauge my usual level of interest in films when I tell you the last two times I went to the cinema were to see Inception and the time before that the first LOTR film. Had an urge to see 1917 though so went yesterday. I’ve read quite a bit online with people picking holes but, as someone mentioned previously, my only gripe was the waterproof message. My son told me beforehand about the one shot idea and it bugged me for a bit as I was overly conscious of it but I thought it worked well. Not really sure why I posted this as no-one in their right mind would come to me for a film review but for what it’s worth I’d highly recommend it."

Not about the film but I thought the music score for 1917 was brilliant.

"Each to their own, Alfs. I'd give it 4 overall. For the cinematography / technical wizardry alone. Plot, characters, script, full of holes. 2/10. Planes in the sky, obvs nearby, doing recon. Why wasn't the message just dropped? Why were only 2 Lance Corporals, not dedicated messengers, used? Why was hospital pretty much on frontline? Clambers half-conscious out of river, magically emerges right in front (albeit opposite side of river) of unit he's looking for. What fine luck! Why was countryside around frontline like a picture postcard? Looked good, though like a video game at times, but the whole premise seemed bollocks. If it were a novella, be about 500 words long/short. Bond film director, eh? No kidding."

"Just back from watching 1917. Very good film, no denying that. The 'single shot' idea worked very well mostly but a couple of times I felt it slowed the pace and tension. The sets are incredible. So many tiny details incorporated. I also loved the fact that in every pause point Mendes manages to attract a world-class actor to play a part with only a couple dozen lines. It would have been greatly improved if the French bird got her tits out whilst doing an impromptu pole dance but maybe that's just me. 8/10"

"Think it might have been a 2019 film, but Ford V Ferrari was excellent. Christian Bale superb, Matt Damon pretty good, too. Fairly close to the truth, too, from what I can garner."

"I watched Uncut Gems last night and enjoyed it - who would have thought Sandler had it in him? It seemed so start at 100mph and didn’t let up, definitely adds to the feeling of anxiety."

"Yeah, Uncut gems does get better in the 2nd half. At first it's just a bunch of irritating shouty Jewish people, like an unfunny Curb Your Enthusiasm, but it improves. As a movie about gambling it's nowhere near as good as The Gambler though. That's the 70s James Caan movie, not the shitty one with Marky Mark that was made a few years back."

"Sandler and Garnett did an interview together on pardon my take, The director had an idea of how he wanted the scene to go and then asked Garnett to essentially write his own lines how he would have said them."

"I'm halfway through Uncut Gems (been watching on the train). Not sure I'll go back for the second half. Too stressful. Although a million miles away, it reminded me of watching that John Cleese film Clockwork. Man has awful things happen to him that hamper the important task he has to complete by a fixed time."
