"Free agency started last night and was pretty crazy some huge money being spent. Osweiler getting £18m a year for the Texans, leaving the Broncos without a QB, Giants have spent a fortune on good but not great players, Oliver Vernon has more guaranteed money than JJ Watt. lots more deals but cant be bothered to list them all."

The Jets are defnitely going for Rodgers. Mike White has gone to my Fins and Joe Flacco is a free agent. There is no way Zach Wilson will be anything more than second string at best. He's not Nathan Perterman bad but he is bad.

"Agree. he's a franchise wrecker at this point. Completely self above team and you can't give in to demands like that. He will keep taking and taking. The Jets need to see with some clarity and walk away. Meanwhile on the QB merry go round- Mayfield to Bucs, Darnold to SF, Jimmy G to Vegas."

"if they're going to invest the sort of money he wants (rodgers alone), I wouldn't touch him with a barge pole if he's requesting multiple people to hold his hand. you're supposedly trading for a locker room leader, all I see is a prima donna that potentially creates toxic atmospheres. also, you already have at least three receivers that are better than cobb/lazard & conklin is better than 38 year old lewis"

"I also get the impression that Rodgers is planning a one-year ""shit or bust"" run at the SB title. Hence, ""let's get Beckham or Cobb etc"" and explode the finances. Don't let him do that. Two-year deal at QB and Saleh/Douglas make the rest of the picks, thanks."

"Definitely think the whole ""let's get Rodgers"" thing is coming from the owners, and not Douglas (GM) or Saleh (HC). Rodgers is excellent, but a MASSIVE ego and dickhead. That just doesn't fit with the whole Douglas/Saleh approach. In fact, it runs in stark contrast to it."

"Seriously, I'm thinking the Jets should give him a swerve and go for Baker Mayfield (now that Carr and Jimmy G have gone elsewhere) and a longer-term rebuild QB in the draft. These names that Rodgers is wanging on about are either far too expensive and won't fit with Rodgers' own salary cap demands...or they are no better than the two (good) young receivers we already have: Garrett Wilson and Elijah Moore. The problem a slot guy like Moore has had at the Jets has been Zach Wilson's inability to read his covered receivers and check-down, which is why Zach Wilson fell off a cliff last year. He can't read the field. Rodgers - who is one of the best check-down guys in history - throwing to Moore (inside) and Garrett Wilson (outside) is potentially really good for the Jets. Rodgers doesn't need so-called ""big names"" like Beckham Jnr. It's a fucking waste of time and money - and their egos will ruin the team. I'd probably still take Rodgers at a push. But if he starts trying to pick his own players and drafts, then fuck him. We've got talent on the roster. We need a good QB, not another fucking HC."

"Hargrove is an excellent signing for the 49ers. He's a proper defensive tackle. Solid all round, against pass and run. I was hoping the Jets might take a peek, but they look completely distracted by this flirtation with Rodgers."

Looks like my Dolphins are all in now. Jalen Ramsey and Xavien Howard a very good pair of corners. We have to make a decisoin about running backs. Not sure what the cap space is like but Wilson and Mostert are going to be expensive. Did read that Mike Gesicki might be let go. So not sure where that leaves us tight end. Some team can certainly use him as a giant slot receiver. Looks like Tua is the man for sure.

Deandre Hopkins is on the market too. Thielen was released by the Vikes, he was always a threat. Some good players to be had."

You joke - but if Broadway threw his shirt back on I think he'd get a game. He's not much older than Rodgers - and he doesn't need a 'balloon' payment!

"Sauce, Garrett Wilson and others are going to need bigger contracts in the not-too-distant future - and tying so much of the Jets' financial future to a 39 year-old QB, leaving almost no cap space, would be proper mad. Douglas needs to negotiate hard to leave some cap flexibility. Otherwise, we'll eventually end up trading away good players like we did with Adams etc. This all comes back to the Jets' historical failure to identify and develop good quarterbacks out of the draft. We must be the worst team in the league for this."

"Just seen what the financial deal for Rodgers might look like, too. With that in mind, I wouldn't trade for him. This so-called 'balloon' payment of $54m that he is (currently) due from Green Bay is nuts. If I'm the Jets, there's no way I'm lumping that, plus his enormous salary and trade picks, on a 39 year-old. He's a great QB. But come on. The Jets need to negotiate hard on that. If we end up potentially taking all of that hit, then walk and take Jimmy G. Sometimes you just have to see sense on the numbers."

"Yep, looks like the Panthers have traded up to take Bryce Young at QB. They've over-spent - but everybody overspends when trading for the #1 pick. Young is a good QB. Remains to be seen if he is #1 material. It's a decent deal for the Bears and I'd have done the same thing in their position. They can put a lot of weapons around Fields now."

"Fully agree. JG or one of SF's quarterbacks are all a shout there are plenty of other options. It does sound like a decision very much driven by the owner rather than the actual football staff at the club. Sounds eerily similar to West Ham really, doesn't it! it would be a shame to fuck up a team finally on the right trajectory just out of impatience or a perceived quick fix effort to appease fans."

"Yeah, I would prefer that we didn't trade for Rodgers. But there's little doubting that, if we did, it is a big upgrade at QB - even through he is 39 years-old. That's how bad we have been at QB for so long! It does feel weird that Joe Douglas and Rob Saleh - who have meticulously built the team so far, would then go 'shit or bust' - which is what it would be with Rodgers (although they may not be demanding a Super Bowl - just the play-offs because even that has been 13 years and counting). Douglas and Saleh are details men, who plan pretty much everything. Most, but not all, of their big calls have gone right in the last two years - Wilson at QB being the big failure. You're right to say that a failure with Rodgers, by giving away picks and cap space, would be the end of them. Even if that failure was him getting injured - which is a big risk at his age. So throwing it all in on 39 year-old Rodgers seems odd for them. I wonder how much of this is really being driven by Woody and the Johnsons? I notice that both Woody and Chris Johnson have been to see Rodgers. My gut feeling is that this might be Woody's attempt to finally win over the hyper-critical fans in New York. So far, the Johnson family legacy has been exceptionally poor and fans want rid of them. They don't understand the game, or the team's fans, and they probably just see Rodgers and think: play-offs. They might even be right. But what's the price? It doesn't feel very Douglas/Saleh - unless they both feel they can't get a better QB elsewhere (trade or draft). We have a good young roster, packed with potential (Sauce, Johnson, Williams, Garrett Wilson, Elijah Moore, Ball etc). All meticulously scouted (for once) by the GM and HC. But they may not be ready, after one or two seasons, to step up to the highest level. Personally, I'd have gone for Jimmy G, the new OC, lit a fire up Zach Wilson's backside and carried on building. But it looks as though the owners are pinning everything on Rodgers being Gotham's messiah."

"I think so as well. He's going to want to be QB, OC, HC and GM, call all the shots, and will likely cause problems if he doesn't get his way with everything. He's basically sulked his way out of GB. I agree there's a lot more value to be had in trading for someone else or looking to use draft picks/the draft. I don't think the Jets are ready to be in win now mode, especially in a tough division where there will be a lot of competition and indeed a tough conference where there's a lot of competition."
