"Free agency started last night and was pretty crazy some huge money being spent. Osweiler getting £18m a year for the Texans, leaving the Broncos without a QB, Giants have spent a fortune on good but not great players, Oliver Vernon has more guaranteed money than JJ Watt. lots more deals but cant be bothered to list them all."

Niners are the #1 seed. 1st week bye. Rest our starters next week against the Rams and prepare for a home game two weeks later. Fresh and healthy. Niners V Browns in the Super Bowl!

"Taylor was so good he could probably have played corner if he'd wanted to - he was quick enough! He was obscene. I'm just saying it's hard to compare players from different eras who played slightly different positions (in the pros). Butkus played, trained and dominated brilliantly in a run-heavy era where you played almost every down on shite pitches and often in chaotic bundles. Taylor played brilliantly in an era where there was more balance between the run and big-throwing QBs. And he destroyed most of them. Two absolute legends. People can talk all day about who was better - and, of course, they'll have their favourites. I'd take either of them tomorrow! Especially after yet another Jets loss last night..!"

Taylor played inside at college. Belichick said he could have played at any defensive position with the possible exception of corner.

"As some have already said, it's difficult to compare Butkus and Taylor directly. One played inside linebacker during a period when teams ran the ball a lot more, and largely down the middle of the pitch (because RBs capable of rushing outside were at a premium, linemen were less mobile and coaches liked the grind of running the ball down people's throat). So stepping up to the line to stop the run was absolutely critical. And Butkus was supreme at it. He often shut down opponents' run game on his own. And he tackled like a tank - he was brutal, down after down. LT, in contrast, was a lightening quick outside linebacker who's job was primarily to pass rush - or threaten to - and he was unbelievably good at it. Never seen anybody like him with that combination of size and speed, and we watched the Sack Exchange! LT was a freak. Both NFL legends, both off-the-charts good. Could even have played in the same team. Imagine that?! Hard to draw comparisons, but it's a little bit like trying to compare a centre half with a full-back. One position required brute force and the ability to sit (and dominate a zone) and read the game: the other required speed, size and ""attacking""ù explosiveness. We could do with either of them right now!"

Russell Wilson benched for the season to avoid an injury clause that would lead to an extra $37 of dead cap space in case of a trade.

"I'll say I was being flippant with ""òshits on' of course, but the consensus from those who know is that LT is the greatest defender who ever played the game. It's no shame for Butkus or Reggie white or anyone else to be amongst the closest runners up."

"I'm not going to carry on and bandy words with someone whos says LT ""Shits on Butkus"" because quite clearly he doesn't even the pros, you know the people who have played the game, are divided over who was the better LB. Yes LT was a great LB maybe one of the best if not the best but he certainly doesn't shit on Dick Butkus by any stretch."

Did Butkus force coaches to change the way offense was played in the NFL? No. Did Taylor? Yes. It's that simple.

"Butkus ate running backs for breakfast and there were some pretty tough bastard RBs in those days (Larry Csonka springs to mind). As you said LT was different in that he was a sack machine and his record really is staggering: MVP (he must be the last defence player to win that), 2 Superbowls, 10 Pro-bowls and that is for starters. Butkus was a beast who played for a not very good team."

In what way does LT shit all over Butkus and remember Taylor was an outside LB whereas Butkus was a middle LB?

"Ravens D line dominated our O line. Niners need to regroup fast on a short week. We're still the best team in the NFC, not sure I want us to play the Ravens again though,"

Takashi Miike 1:56 Tue Dec 19 Although not in Mark Andrews' class yet Isaiah Likely is turning out to be a pretty handy stand in. He is in my Fantasy team now as was Mark Andrews until he got crocked and racking up similar points if not the same yardage per game..

"picked out the Ravens weeks ago, not sure they have the weapons though if Andrews remains out. My favourite NFC team to watch are the Lions, would love them to keep winning but Goff is always prone to a nightmare performance. Would love us to hire their OC Ben Johnson as the next HC, will probably get beat by another franchise given how slow we get things done"

"don't think the dolphins are anywhere near others, tbh. They've beaten the Chargers, the Pats (x2), Broncos (when they were shit), Giants, Jets (x2), Panthers, Raiders & Redskins. They've lost to the Bills, Chiefs & Eagles - put another way, anyone resembling a competent football team - and also managed to lose to the Titans. 9ers look nailed on in the NFC, for me. Cowboys struggle outside of Dallas, Eagles have been shit all year and are now getting the results that performances have deserved, Detroit are flaky and prone to doing some ridiculous things as well as great things, and everyone else is average at best. Would be a spectacular fail if they don't win the NFC from here."
