Some old Danny Baker shows from the golden days of bbc London. Some of the most enjoyable radio ever made.

Re: What if anything are you listening to now?
"It is a nuisance at times. For example, if I want to put inverted commas around a word or phrase, I have to enter a battle of wills between it and I over the placement of the second inverted comma. It will accept the first readily enough, but the second it will refuse to place (it will disappear as soon as I hit the space bar, forcing me to go back to re-enter it). Following that it will then frequently insert a space between the last word and the second inverted comma."

Has Samsung's predictive text system become a monkey on your back?

Re: What if anything are you listening to now?
"Yes, it's possessive 's' in that phrase, but aren't you more likely to hear 'monkeys' in the plural? As in 'Those monkeys like bananas' or ' The zoo has lots of monkeys ' or 'David Attenborough made a documentary about monkeys ' etc."
Re: What if anything are you listening to now?
"No one has been able to trace the full history of this bizarre phrase. Several theories have been floated over the years, most notably the idea that monkey actually refers to the brass rack (called a monkey) that would have been used to stack cannon balls on a ship. In extreme cold, the brass would contract and thus force the cannon balls out of the rack. However, this story has not been confirmed ""ì and does little to explain why other simian body parts have also been dropping off. - Oxford Dictionaries"

You're on shaky ground if trying to suggest I don't know how to wield an apostrophe.

Re: What if anything are you listening to now?
Why did Samsung insert an apostrophe there?? Surely the plural form of monkey is going to be used FAR more often than with possessive 's'? Koreans would make good supermarket delivery pickers.

Re: What if anything are you listening to now?
"Good point, Debs. The monkey's who choose the 'substitutions' are thick as mince. And then you end up having to go out again to get the item they didn't bring. It's pointless."

Re: What if anything are you listening to now?
"geep 1:31 I won't use supermarket delivery services. I want to select my own fresh produce. And until stage production companies and actors agree to come round my house and set up a performance in my sitting room, I'll still need to go into The Out some evenings."
Re: What if anything are you listening to now?
"dm I agree, best album. My favourite Gong bit is the Master Builder/Sprinkling of Clouds sequence (the rest of the album is a bit patchy) especially when the latter explodes into life. Hillage might do spacey most of the time (I like System 7) but he is a mean shredder too."
