"A minidisc I recorded some time ago, with my favourite tracks from Iron Maiden's Number of the Beast and Piece of Mind albums, plus some b sides from around that time. Number of the Beast was released 40 years ago today. I personally think that while it's got some great tracks, eg Run to the Hills, Children of the Damned, Hallowed be thy Name, it's dated a bit here and there, got 2 or 3 duff tracks,eg Invaders, Gangland, The Prisoner, and it's not the masterpiece it's generally held up to be."

dm 7:41 Tue Mar 22 I once saw Dream Theater play the whole NOTB album front to back about 20 years back. Also saw them play all of The Dark Side of The Moon at Hammersmith once. They want to be their heroes so badly. Shame that this stopped when Portnoy left as I'm sure they must have had a Rush album lined up.

"MaryMillingtonsghost I also think Welcome to the Pleasure Dome is a fucking great album. I think that was mainly down to Trevor Horn. He got fellow former member of Yes Steve Howe to contribute some guitar to the title track. And great cover versions of San Jose.and Born to Run. And great version of War with a pre-famous Chris Barrie doing narration in his best Ronald Reagan voice. It featured in PROG magazine a few years ago in the 'It's Prog Jim, but not as we know it' feature"

"MMG A lot of it is down to Trevor Horn, to be honest. Like or loathe what he did, he was a genius producer. Watched an interview with Seal a few nights ago where he basically dedicated his whole career to him. And what he did for Grace Jones also."

"White Pony 9:17 Even after all these years I still can't explain why, but I still think Welcome To The Pleasuredome is a fucking great album. A sign of the (then) times perhaps? Sonic Youth - In/Out/In"
