Cough... Northern soul generally refers to the soul music of the mid-Sixties and always to obscure 45 singles which did not receive much airplay in England or America. The obscure rare soul classics they loved were often uptempo (though an occasional mid-tempo song would work itself in) and would ape the popular Motown sound. The Marvelletes song you quoted reached number 13 in the UK charts... which makes it neither obscure or rare it's not uptempo... It was released in 67... the term N/Soul was not termed that by 970 at the earliest... it's as much Northern Soul as Dusty Springfield.... If you want a N/Soul top 40 playlist let me know and I'll whack it your way... that will make your day as happy as can be
