I only really have their music because some bint I was dating back in the day loved them - but she also loved me, so there's no accounting for taste. Understand the Oldfield connection though, and Kevin Ayers, but Soft Machine moved, for me, into something less accessible - more in the late avant-garde Miles Davis style, I feel"

"Mike Oxsaw. I must admit that I've tried both Soft Machine and Kevin Ayres solo because of their connections with Gong and Mike Oldfield, but I couldn't get into either. I know there is some musical overlap with the two of us, as I remember that you like Mostly Autumn. If I was to try again with Soft Machine, what would you recommend?"
