Moyes Out ( Released )
"Posted the same last year. Nothing has changed, except win don't win matches anymore. I'm fed up, we can do much better"
Re: Moyes Out
"The approach in the first half was absolutely disgraceful when you take into account the amount of money we've spent and the fact that our opposition was a bunch of mediocre kids. The love for Soucek and Coufal is just weird. Playing them in the same side as Scamacca, Rice and Paqueta should be a criminal offence. Moyes has reached his ceiling a while ago."

Re: Moyes Out
Some of the idiots on here would take probably our best player in the air out of the side when we don't have any centre backs who are good in the air to play. Absolutely vital to have him to defend set plays and it proved so with many aerial clearances. No real problem with the selection. Emerson was further defensive cover as we didn't have any fit centre backs and he was rightly subbed as he didn't pull up any trees and Southampton were offering less threat when they went ahead. The subs at the end were pointless and only served to waste time. Couldn't see the point in them.

Re: Moyes Out
"no doubt the moyes fundamentalists will claim it was a good draw today. I think he set up for a draw, and that's what we got. he continues with this five at the back obsession (he would have done if all the CBs were available), he continues selecting the clumsy soucek, had our record signing out of position in the first half and failed to bring in more than one sub for eighty (EIGHTY) minutes. like the cսnt ignoring downes after his MOTM against FCSB, he does the same again today with benny and only brings him on once we were chasing the game. he has no zero man management skills, so how can players ever maintain form when it you play well you go back to the bench? he's a negative, safety first manager that will hold back this squad of players with his lack of trust and imagination"

Re: Moyes Out
scott_d 2:51 Wed Oct 12 It is. But its better to lose the ball in your opponent half than in your own area. Brentford gave 4 goals away by poncing about when it should've been hit up to Toney.

Re: Moyes Out
"That was the thing Branded, it only started to happen as I can recall in the odd game or later in the season when all were knackered due to being played week in week out......now he has 'better' squad options swap it back.....nervous Nerys football is not for our liking...."
Re: Moyes Out
"The best pressing side I've noticed recently is Man City or maybe I expected them to not press as much as they do being big name stars but it's obviously part of Pep's coaching. I think they also have the best possession stats and usually let in less goals than anyone else. I don't want us to sack Moyes but we will probably outgrow his ability to coach possession football in a year or two ""¶"

Re: Moyes Out
Nick and Ham I'm with you both on our pressing tactics we seem to have regressed on this. We did have a time under Moyes when he had them working harder on that part of the game. I particularly thought this was the case against Fulham (although it didn't cost us). In that game it was particularly noticeable that when we were in possession out wide both Bowen and Fornals were shut down by more than one player whereas Fulham always had space out wide when they got the ball. I couldn't work out if this was by design or if we were just slow to shut things down. Also pressing upfront when it occurs now seems like an after thought.
Re: Moyes Out
"Side of Ham 3:11 Wed Oct 12 100%. We dont press, let alone press high etc etc. We sit deep hoping to hit on the counter. Amount of aimless long balls in channels without Antonio (well even with him in the side given his inability to controls a football) comes down to us being pressed... It works and has to be part of the modern game."

Re: Moyes Out
I think we've played our best 'football' when we actually pressed the opposition into a fuck up....my gripe is Moyes has made them shrink into their shell and rely on the heroics of the likes of Dawson.....why can't we revert back to actually harassing the opposition it even seemed to make us harder to beat or is that my imagination?
Re: Moyes Out
"Isn't the alternative to playing it out from the back hoofing it up the field to Antonio/Scamacca? We pretty much concede possession most of the time we play that long ball so at least by playing it out we keep hold of the ball for a little bit longer. what I don't get is the amount of games we start that we are fucking awful, giving the ball away, looking like a pub team and then looking a much improved side in the second half OR when we concede a goal. the concern is that it was a trait that seemed to happen in some of those shit seasons fighting relegation."
Re: Moyes Out
easthammer I know Moyes has lots of younger coaches but the style of play doesn't come from anyone but Moyes. We can be sure of that I reckon. Could BFS have changed to be an attacking coach like Pep for England? I reckon the sting saved him from more embarrassment than everyone knowing he's a crook. I fear Moyes may be much the same. He's an expert at what has worked for him his whole career. Any change would only be experimental for him imo...

Re: Moyes Out
"I've never really liked centre backs playing the ball out, I think the only ones I can think of that did it well we're liverpool when they had hansen & lawrenson. I'd much rather feed the fullbacks and go from there. It's why I love julian so much and rate him as I high as I do, you could throw the ball out to him and within seconds he'd be attacking the opposing team's right midfielder/fullback. the bloke was unbelievable"

Re: Moyes Out
"sack Moyes and employ Guardiola would be a good start. But seriously, I'm not overly convinced with all this playing out from the back. I know why they do it - It's to draw the opponent in and away from their half which then gives you the opportunity to play through them and start an attack. But I have to say - Watching MOTD at the weekend was staggering the amount of goals scored by teams that pick up on a mistake from teams playing out. Soton were a joke. They kept doing and man City had a field day. Wolves did it. And Brentford were just a shambles. I think 4 of the 5 goals they conceded came from pining about trying to play out. Like, you are watching a game and you can just see it happening almost like in slow motion, like a hot potato and then bang. I mean seriously, no matter what your philosophy, there is always a time in a game when you just have to hoof it upfield."

Re: Moyes Out
"Willtell wrote ""Moyes clearly wants to improve the squad with ball playing defenders but does he how to coach that way having been defensive minded his whole career I wonder?"" Unless I have missed something Moyes is the Manager, but he has a team of younger coaches including Paul Nevin (1st Team Coach) who is currently employed with the England ( not that this is necessarily a recommendation ) but it hardly suggests our coaching methods are from distant past."
Re: Moyes Out
Second thought. Of course he would have had to be comfortable on the ball having spent so much time at PSG
Re: Moyes Out
Yes I didn't mean to deny that he was comfortable on the ball. Just that I didn't know. Moyes clearly wants to improve the squad with ball playing defenders but does he how to coach that way having been defensive minded his whole career I wonder?

Re: Moyes Out
Willtell 11:16 Wed Oct 12 I have to say - I always liked the look of Areola when he was at Fulham and did notice how comfortable he was on the ball.

Re: Moyes Out
"I'm sure Dawson was also on a couple of relegated squads. I think we've won every game Areola has started this season, so he isn't doing bad (I think we've won every game he's started), but Moyes loyalty to certain players exceeds logic a lot of the time so this will continue"
Re: Moyes Out
"Well, except for a bit of exaggeration Miike, I don't disagree with any of that. I never really noticed Areola play when he was at Fulham. I didn't know he could play out of defence. I thought it might be his limitations but obviously not. Hang on though didn't Fulham get relegated that season?"

Re: Moyes Out
you can't expect either keeper to do much with the ball when the centre backs are constantly sitting about ten yards away. one of areola's strengths at fulham was being comfortable with the ball. moyes doesn't like playing a higher line so this will continue and opposing teams will continue having far too much room to work in
Re: Moyes Out
"Possession can be passing endlessly around the back line which is where a lot of WH's possession is imo. That is not very good possession when it ends up in a long ball as it often does once challenged. Possession in the opposition's half is where it matters but that starts from the back line. That's where we aren't very good. We regularly see both our keepers kicking long and sometimes accidentally out of touch. None of our keepers show any signs of being comfortable on the ball in the way Allison, Ederson or Ramsdale are. Aguerd and Kehrer were bought to play either side of Zouma or Dawson in a back 3. Maybe that was Moyes attempt to get ball playing defenders to improve our possession but, that's going to be a long term thing now that Aguerd is injured and Kehrer has become our RB. I suspect we need more than two top class players to improve our possession but pragmatic Moyes will know that and we will still do well with our existing style being supplemented by the determination and effort that was missing early season. For those reasons I think we should just grin and bare it. Changing manager is a dodgy business when Sullivan will be the one selecting the new manager with PL survival the main goal."
