"https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2022/10/17/aston-villa-target-mauricio-pochettino-manager-steven-gerrard/ callous as it is, pochettino waving his knickers around would be the one thing that would overrule the sentiment that moyes deserves at least the season considering the job he's done up until late."

Re: Moyes Out
"""The truth is that better teams have better players that both attack and defend and slagging off Moyes for having 7 defenders is groundless."" It's seven men behind the ball, you're the one mentioning defenders. Soucek's a box to box midfielder. It's about the intent of the manager and what he tells them to do. Pep lets his players express themselves, our negative cսnt stifles any exuberance until we go a goal behind"
Re: Moyes Out
ED Exactly. We scared a draw because we went for one. God knows what Moyes will do on Wednesday
Re: Moyes Out
Since when did goalkeepers count as defenders? We played a back 5 with 2 right in front of them. If you really wanna include Fabianski that's 8 defensive players. Funnily enough when Emerson (a defender) got subbed for Benrahma it changed the game.
Re: Moyes Out
"It's perfectly normal for a team to have 7 defenders is my point. Keeper, 2 FBs, 2 CBS, 2DMs is perfectly usual for most teams. Some teams have better defenders that do a lot more of attacking but calling a full back an attacker is lying to yourself. Is Bowen a defender because he tracks back make him a defender? The truth is that better teams have better players that both attack and defend and slagging off Moyes for having 7 defenders is groundless. There's a lot more sound reasons for slagging Moyes off."

Re: Moyes Out
"Man City lined up with 5 defensive players including the keeper...Ederson, Akanji, Ruben Dias, Ake & Rodri...the rest were attack minded.....Cancelo (wants to be a winger over defender and is encouraged to be this), Bernardo Silva, Foden, De Bruyne, Gundogan & Haaland. Liverpool lined up with 5 defensive players and one now having to play defensive due to his age but he was a winger and an attack minded midfielder in Milner....the defensive players were Allison, Gomez, Van Djik, Robertson & Fabinho.....their attack minded players were Thiago, Elliot, Firming, Jota & Salah. West Ham lined up with 7 defensive players possibly 8 as Emerson & Rice would be dubious to have down as attack minded but on their day they can be, but so can Robertson of Liverpool etc. So the defensive minded players were Fabianski, Johnson, Kehrer, Cresswell, Coufal, Soucek, Rice & Emerson. Our attack minded players were Bowen, Scamacca & Paqueta. How it's really decided on who is what is the attitude of the manager and ours is defend first which draws back on their attacking intent making them a defender for the game if they are a bit of both and 'try' to get forward if they can. This is why the shit opposition scoring was actually a god send because the defensive intent of the manager was forced change. All only an opinion on a forum though so no need to mince and slag over it......."

"I just looked at a couple of teams and if I'm not mistaken, Liverpool and Arsenal each had 7 defensive players. Manchester City only had but they lost..."

Re: Moyes Out
"Going by what Kretinsky said when he took over, I think Moyes job is safe. I said before the Fulham game that arguably a couple of scraped wins could be worse for us long term. I've seen fuck all in the last 3 games that's miles different to the shit 9 months that proceeded them. We got lucky, if Daniel James shot put Fulham 0-2 up, we'd be in deep shit. We've spent £180mil to be a fucking percentages team. Keep it tight, don't concede, go long, hope for a bit of luck in front of goal. We're an Allardyce team with better players."

Re: Moyes Out
If as rumoured Kretinsky does take full control next July I really can't see him employing Moyes and hopefully will bring in a top manager with a decent CV ! sadly until then I can't see Moyes going anywhere.

Re: Moyes Out
"Even if everyone is available he would make the same kind of negative formation and approach. Wouldnt make any difference. Few weeks ago, Andy van der Meyde (former everton) told in a football show that Moyes was by far the worst manager he ever had. Not even so much on the training ground, but especially people management wise. He just couldnt communicate and deal with personalities."

"We arguably started with 7 defensive minded players yesterday, against a shit Southampton team on a dreadful run of form. That team and tactics got the result it deserved."

Re: Moyes Out
Any creative players we have look like they are told to beware of being creative as it fucks up the formation.....this is why so many passes go astray as they are trying to pass to isolated players who dare to venture forward to back up the front three....

Re: Moyes Out
"Vexed 1:37 Mon Oct 17 I agree in that the last three games that has seen us take 7 points from 9 still hasn't convinced me has got a grip on things. He still doesn't know his best eleven, still doesn't know his best formation and still always opts for safety first. I don't agree that the holes are all his fault. The injury crisis at the back is spectacularly West Ham but he can't help players getting injured or becoming ill. Moyes is (or was) at his best when we had a small squad with one set way of playing and one best eleven. But the limitations to that saw us fade away last season. Now he has options on both selections and formations he doesn't seem to know what to do. His use of subs is fucking tragic. Any subs he makes that are offensive are always done too late. Having this newly bolstered squad seems to have now shown up his own limitations. His negativity is wearing thin."

Re: Moyes Out
He got reinstated with us steadied the ship for which I'm grateful but if we're going to move on we need to pay him off ! As said before to play defensively against poor oposition is so frustrating and the massive support deserves better.
Re: Moyes Out
I'd still sack him. A couple of scrapey results against fu King Fulham and wolves hasn't changed my mind. The bloke is hopeless. How can you spend 180m and still have so many holes in a squad? Ridiculous.

Re: Moyes Out
"This is how it's looking to me.... When Moyes came back he had the team playing to his plan they were eager to be a tight unit and a couple were looking to establish themselves in the PL. We PRESSED we HARRIED we took the game to the opposition like I've rarely seen a West Ham team do in the past on a regular basis. This got us results, this got us a reputation for being hard to beat. Then after a couple of seasons doing this and the opposition knowing our set up AND the players not getting enough rotation they got fucking sick of it and it showed in both their physical & mental performances. Now we are left in a situation where Moyes knows he has to change it up but his go to is to set up as hard to beat.....this means he worries about what the opposition are going to do rather than focus on what our players can do......"

Re: Moyes Out
I wish someone would have a word in his ear regarding substitutions. He's fucking awful at them. This new 5 sub rule (which I'm a fan of) has highlighted how bad he is at them.

Re: Moyes Out
scouse kid 1:09 Mon Oct 17 But he's right. We should've won the game. But he didn't play his part as usual. Had we started with Benny and brought Antonio on sooner then we may have won it. They were his calls. So its down to him. Moyes has no clue how to go and dominate a game we are expected to win. He never has.

Re: Moyes Out
I watched Moyes post game press conference. Very uninspired from Moyes claims we should have won the game Maybe trying a few proactive substitutions and tactical tweaks might have helped
