Re: Moyes Out
I see another problem now in that they are doing what Moyes instructs but they are not buying into his longterm project anymore......he takes too long to change things out....
Re: Moyes Out
"Sir Alf , the vast majority of the players you named there are not at the WC . And no European games until March . Surely perfect opportunity for Moyes and coaches to work on passing and ball work in training. Or are balls allowed ?"
Re: Moyes Out
"Agree Alf. Also, Moyes starts cagey, trying to hit teams on the counter, which isn't working this season as well as it has. Once a goal down then he pushes forward and tries to get balls into the box. However, he gets it the wrong way around with his strikers. Antonio is more suited to a counter attacking game, Scamacca clearly needs balls into the box and support up there with him so starting Scamacca and bringing Antonio on late doesn't scan particularly well with how he starts and finishes. The last 10 against United you needed Scamacca in the box, although I understand why he subbed him on that occasion when on a yellow. I'm far from saying Scamacca should only be a sub, it's just that by playing a counter game from the start it's not playing to Scamacca's strengths and because Moyes purchased him and probably told him he would be a starter so he has to play him."
Re: Moyes Out
"Moyes wants or says he wants to evolve to more of a possession game. He said that at the start of the season and I read he understood that teams now knew our strengths and were set up to negate them. I do see we are trying to keep the ball more and play from the back a bit more but I do question the passing quality of too many players in our squad. The following players get passing accuracy stats under 80% which is poor when compared to City ( obviously ) but most of the top teams down to Liverpool in 8th or 9th place: Antonio Fabianski Scamacca Coufal Johnson Bowen Soucek Areola Cresswell, Paqueta and Fornals aint much better and just around 80% Ok, when you play up top you get less time and space and it will depend on the number of touches you have too but IMO we have too many players who do not pass accurately enough. It can of course be down to sitting deep and allowing opposition teams to press high ( tactics ). Also, some creative players will pass less accurately because they are attempting to put a ball through to a forward or try something that creates a chance etc. which has far more risk of not making its target. But there are some players ( Antonio, Soucek, Coufal, Johnson, Cresswell) that need to be better at the basics of passing and control if we are to be any good at playing a different way if we ever really commit to play that way. In other words ( less words :-) ) we still need 2 or 3 upgrades in the squad. We could look at the finishing stats next but they are an absolute horror show."
Re: Moyes Out
"It's shit football and Kandu has effectively admitted it . He points out our set pieces have gone to shit , established players like Bowen not performing. Whose responsibility is this ? If Cresswell can't take a decent set piece , then why is he playing? The smart arse post match interview he gave on Sunday repeating the old standard - "" we were relegation fodder when I arrived in 2019 "" and we should be delighted to be losing 1-0 to Utd . He has bought into his own hype and considers himself infallible. He is extraordinarily arrogant for someone who has won f all in 25 years . I would thank him for his work for his first time around and for 18 months of his current spell but he has clearly displayed in 2022 that he neither has the ambition or know how to move us forward ."

Re: Moyes Out
"He bangs on about getting to that next level, yet it would mean replacing our old level coach, he doesn't get that ! This containing style he adopts, protect the point first half is really old news now and teams have latched on to it We are so fucking predictable What worries me most is he takes good players and turns them in to bang average players as he is obsessed with a style of play borne out of the 1980s. We will lose all of our better players because they will get fed up of playing in this restrictive style We will be left with the Coufals and the Fornals of this world, .... being played out of position ! It's a tough fucking watch currently"

Re: Moyes Out
"Kandu ""We couldn't have done that first half because had we committed more men forward with the players on the pitch at the time, once our currently inept attack broke down, their quality players would have picked us off on the break."" spot on. We aren't dictating anything out there anymore. We are being ""allowed"" to play in the second half's of games in my opinion. As I said in an other thread somewhere. We need to start the game like we are 1 or 2 nil down. But we are starting games trying to protect a 0-0. Its insane really. I get it for a team that doesnt want to get relegated. But for a team that just spent 100m+ and has the Italian no.9 ... its kind of bonkers."
Re: Moyes Out
""" If we went out like we did in the last 10 mins against Man u then maybe we could play that same system. But to sit back and try and absorb for the majority of the game and then go for it at the end wont wash at this level.""ù We didn't sit back and park the bus on the edge our box for 80 mins and then attacked. We kept ourselves compact first and then broke forward and attacked them in the first half a few times . Problem was we were hapless once near their goal. Then, and as I've pointed out before, In the 2nd half they made defensive subs to try and protect their lead ,which invited us onto them, hence we attacked more. We couldn't have done that first half because had we committed more men forward with the players on the pitch at the time, once our currently inept attack broke down, their quality players would have picked us off on the break."
Re: Moyes Out
Biggest problem is we have one way of playing and one system. Other teams have found us out over the past couple of years yet he continues to play in exactly the same way. We aren't city and can't play that way forever. If we went out like we did in the last 10 mins against Man u then maybe we could play that same system. But to sit back and try and absorb for the majority of the game and then go for it at the end wont wash at this level. He was successful with this style before as we attacked from early on and went for it.
Re: Moyes Out
"we are lower mid table and the football and results are shit. It's been the same for almost a year now. Of course our form and results arnt as good as they were and we haven't played that well for a while but we brought several new players in in the summer and while they, mostly are upgrades to what we had, we haven't found the right blend yet. For me the biggest problem is our finishing and form of established players eg Bowen. And set pieces? WTF has happened to them? We can have 15 in a game now & not look like scoring from any of them. I also believe this will be a very different premier league season and not just because of the WC. There are no definite whipping boys this season and even more than usual, anyone can beat anyone so I believe it will be the case that 2 wins takes you in/near European places, 2 defeats takes you just outside the drop zone and I expect that to happen all season. We don't need to be cut adrift at the bottom to want more than that, especially as the move to a shit and unsuitable rented, souless athletes bowl was sold on ""next level"" We've qualified for Europe for past 2 seasons. I would say that was a level up at least to previous few seasons before that. ""They made a rod for their own backs and now need to show more ambition.""ù I think the amount spent in the summer showed ambition , though it was long overdue."

Re: Moyes Out
"the recent fixture list has been kind given our away form. i expect if we played the likes of man u, liverpool and chelsea at home we'd have had much the same results, whereas i don't fancy us going away to basically any ground at the moment. he's had the luxury of throwing the away games so he can scrape results against beatable teams at home. even if we were just ending this run with trips to selhurst park and leicester before the break instead of the inverse he'd be fearing for his job."

Re: Moyes Out
Or on the cusp of something great but choosing to cower from the opportunity.....to be one of the best you surely have to take it to the opposition....we barely have possession of the ball ffs.....
Re: Moyes Out
"So many sharpened pitchforks on here. You'd think we were adrift at the bottom of the table, getting stuffed each week and out of Europe."

Re: Moyes Out
"He needs to go, the football is shit, boring and ineffective. We've needed luck and struggled to beat the teams we have who lets face it aren't great sides, we've surrendered the initiative and lost to teams in poor form. Sick of watching this shit and Moyes excuses after identical performances every week, we are going nowhere and need to show more ambition. Been like this for almost a year now. Our results in that period warrant a change."

"To be fair to him, I haven't seen and can't ever see there being a reason for him to make a first half change. When you set up every single game with 10 men behind the ball, with nothing else in mind but not to concede, you're hardly going to need to change it up."

Re: Moyes Out
"the football has been turgid crap for over a year. Since the end of the transfer window in January, well before that actually, i Have said get rid he is a busted flush. Now with a better squad around him he still continues along the same lines as before with worsening results. This one stat, the big 70 for Premier League trips to Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United without winning tells you that every season we need to take 4 games and bin them, 12 points we can write off as soon as the season starts (Add Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs as well most probably from now on with Moyes in charge) Anyway get rid now FFS"

Re: Moyes Out
"I agree, rice and paqueta either side of downes would be ideal. I think he's finally got the shape right now, and downes is happy to sit and break things up so you could spot anyone in to that three if those other two are unavailable. even soucek, not having to stay back would see an improvement in him as I think he's happiest as a box to box player. let's hope he gives it a go"
Re: Moyes Out
"Losing 1-0 at Old Trafford how many fans would have pushed Antonio on with Scamacca? OK Scamacca was on a yellow card but, how many realise that Downes was yellow card free yet Soucek stayed on with a yellow card while Downes was taken off? Moyes doesn't seem able to work out what to do with £55m Paqueta who gets pushed to AM. It seems that his best position is a little deeper. Downes is playing AM because he's replacing Paqueta at the moment. Yet neither regard their best positions as AM apparently! Soucek has been a goal scoring midfielder since joining. His form has dropped alarmingly all 2022 yet he never gets dropped or subbed even when playing absolute rubbish. Why is that? I disagree about picking Emerson in front of Cresswell simply because nothing I have seen so far suggests he is a better option. We need better than both of them imo. For me I see a team and fans that feel respect for Moyes but, we are all being totally frustrated by the weird, illogical decisions he makes. Benrahma is playing some of his best football we've seen from him over last few games but any chance Moyes gets he has a dig at him! And whenever I see a close up of Bennie check out where he's looking. It's mostly at the bench... Something has to change for Moyes or the club will change Moyes..."
Re: Moyes Out
"Lee, he shouldn't need to use subs in the first half other than for injuries. It is reasonable to assume the squad are match fit now so he simply needs to start the first half as he does the second. The world and his wife knows what to expect of us at the start, time we went for a win from the first minute after all we have a strong bench now and as you say 5 subs available. I also agree with Antonio who pointed out that he and Scammaca should play together, he is treating Scammaca as he treated Haller which shows how slow he is to learn."

Re: Moyes Out
"""He's gone past his sell buy date."" I've wondered that. It seems like he's the only manager who doesn't utilise the 5 sub rule. I can't ever imagine him making a substitution in the first half when things aren't going our way (which seems like every game)."
