All I do know is once he came into the side we didn't get given a hiding and then he added goals to his game for a short while....

"I still think that Soucek does a lot defensively that mostly goes unnoticed. He's having a tough run in front of goal which will always make people question his place in the side - if he'd scored a couple more goals maybe we dont have this convo. However, with the ball he has been poor - he always seems to 'bobble' simple passes into people. At the moment we just have too many players who are uncomfortable with the ball at their feet, or are usually comfortable but are making bad mistakes. I'm talking Soucek, Johnson, Dawson, Zouma, Fornals and Cresswell in particular."

Yeah dunno either Side? I probably need to go and put an anorak on and analyse the Soucek stats and see if he is making tons of crucial interceptions and headers that stop attacks starting or crosses coming in?

"zico 3:14 Wed Nov 2 I think I read that the secret to Paqueta's big upturn in performances and form at Lyon, after a disappointing time at Milan, was moving him into a deeper role as he had been in the advanced midfield role at Milan. He ( Paqueta ) was praised for his defensive work and pressing as well as his ability to link defence to attack ( transition ) when in teh deeper role with the game / players more ahead of him rather than picking it up with far less room and space in the more advanced position. Vlasic played out of position, Fornals, Antonio ( arguably ), Benrahma, Downes, Soucek. Square pegs etc.,,? Vlasic never got to play in his best role because Moyes always played Lanzini or Fornals at a push. It is really hard to understand and it does not seem Moyes can explain it other than he is fitting players he has in the squad to the first 11 rather than having a strategy in place, a system of play and going out to purchase the players that fit it and training / drilling all teams to play that way. Think he has done a great job getting this far but need to see some changes that make sense soon or I will be joining those that already think he is unable to take us any further."

"Sir Alf, I'm wondering if it's why we rarely get a thrashing these days? Or is that purely down to Moyes's dour team set up? I really don't know tbh."

Just what is it that Soucek provides that Moyes thinks is indispensable even when we are losing all our away games ( mostly )? He's tall and can head it easier than a smaller bloke? Is it simply that? What else is he doing that we are not seeing? We see the misplaced passing and inability to match the pace of most opposition midfield players and him getting on the end of a chance or two in a game and missing. What else is it that gets him picked? Dirty pics of Dave and Sullivan?

"Davey, I meant more so than Scamacca, Antonio does have a bit of pace and barges his way through, stumbling at times but I still think he runs with it better than Scamacca who isn't that sort of player. The interview is bizarre. I could half understand it if he played Soucek there, not to pass it about, but to just get in the box to support Scamacca. One thing Soucek does (or did) have was finishing off moves, he isn't the sort to start them though. Not even sure if Paqueta is a number 10 either, although certainly better suited there that Soucek or Downes. Once Paqueta is back I suspect Downes will be benched."

"Those comments about Downes are as funny as they are tragic. They tell me everything I need to know about Moyes. He has lost his way and has now just resorted to bullshitting and trying to talk a good game. In essence, he is saying ""I know I am playing Downes out of position but I am doing it anyway regardless of it not benefitting the player of the team"" Just fuck off Moyes. You've hit your ceiling and now your just embarrassing yourself."

"That interview is mental ""He's maybe not exactly where he would want to be but I think most young players who break into teams don't always get their valid position. I think sometimes you have to wait until things come along for you.""ù Well if 3 MOTM in 3 starts can't get you a go in your favoured position ahead of Soucek's performance this season then what is Moyes seeing? He also praises Downes for keeping the ball when he has it, something Soucek largely struggles with!! Moyes has had enough time this calendar year to turn things round, and definitely enough money. With each week losing more and more faith in him getting us firing again. Main reason being his stubborness and inability to see the majority of his decisions these days arent just wrong..... but absolutely bonkers"

"I find that interview absolutely staggering. How can the man be taken seriously? That's a Premier League manager, openly admitting he's doing something he knows isn't right, and it clearly isn't working. Madness."

Noble as a 10 was probably the most tragically funny thing I've seen Moyes try.

"Moyes has favoured having a defensive-minded No 10 in Downes. ""The thinking behind it was you will remember a year or two ago, we put Mark Noble there for a while because we had Tomas (Soucek) and put Mark higher up for a period,""ù said Moyes. ""We did it tactically in the Liverpool game but at the moment, while I've not got Paqueta, I'm just looking to see what the best options are and how we get it. I thought he did well again, it's another way he's getting games for us at the moment. ""He's in the team and he's offering us something else. He keeps the ball well and recovers it well. He's had a pretty good start in all of those roles at the moment; at times we've wanted to play him as a third midfielder with Tomas and Declan (Rice), at times we wanted him to be the initial press for us, so we're trying to integrate him. ""He's maybe not exactly where he would want to be but I think most young players who break into teams don't always get their valid position. I think sometimes you have to wait until things come along for you.""ù I am absolutely astounded reading that. It's bordering on insanity. For anybody that cares, and even for those that don't, I meant to say earlier unambitious and unimaginative."

"I would play Antonio as right winger. That's where he played mostly at his best for Forest when we bought him. That's his best position always has been. He is not a striker. Bilic wasted him playing him at right back, then left wing, then moyes plays him left wing and striker. Bowen is not delivering on the right, change it he is versatile enough can play left wing with Scammaca as striker."

Zico Are you sure Antonio is best used in a counter attacking game. i seem to recall that when Payet was here we weren't a counter attacking game. Payet and Antonio seemed to click. Antonio was bloody useful then. Paquetta could replicate given the chance.

"Don't agree with a lot that Eerie comes out with ""¶ mainly as he is a proper little weasel""¶ but he has it spot on here""¶ we are Boring""¶ really ""¶ fucking boring""¶ it's hard enough turning the TV on at the mo and watching us never alone having to travel (like a load do on here) and watch that slop. We have to be the most unadventurous team in the Prem... Oh and I blame that Allardyce slug Nolan as much as big Brave Dave..."

"Willtell 10:36 Wed Nov 2 I'm going on what someone else said, it could be slightly wrong but it allies to what I think I saw, apparently up until the 75 minute we had 4 shots on goal, 0 on target. Whatever the exact figure was, we were once again unambiguous, defensive, unimaginable and worst of all, just really fucking boring. The last 15 minutes can't mask up what a shit show this season has been. 11 goals in 13 games tells you everything you need to know, especially when 2 if them against Bournemouth shouldn't have been allocated."

"I wasn't one who jumped on the ""Scamacca is the new Haller"" bandwagon. But it is very clear that he is being forced to play in the same formation with the same rigid, plan A tactics which doesn't suit his game. In fact it's zapping the confident he had when he joined us. Sound familiar? Unless Moyes can (or is willing) to change approach, Scamacca (amongst others) will be another failure and will likely go to another club and score loads of goals. That and his obsession with Soucek resulting in him running around passing to the opposition, Downes playing number 10 etc etc. Time and settling in is clearly no longer an excuse, the players look frustrated, majority of fans feel the same. Decision time - keep Moyes, waste a load of cash, end up a mid table team or replace Moyes change to a modern approach to football and with a bit more investment become a true competitive team competing for top 6 every year. Not even a debate is it?"

"Side of Ham 4:52 Tue Nov 1 Re: Moyes Out ""Or on the cusp of something great but choosing to cower from the opportunity.....to be one of the best you surely have to take it to the opposition....we barely have possession of the ball ffs....."" ------------------------------------------------------- I agree with your principle but in our last game up at Old Trafford we had 47% to Man Utd 53"". We had 11 on target shots against their 9. Yet we lost 1-0. As I said, in general your comments are right. We made an effort against Man Utd but in most games we don't start until half time."

Keep that up and we end up on 41 points. Only once in almost thirty years since the Premier league went down to twenty teams has that not been enough to avoid relegation. Try working through the maths before posting in future.

We are again at that point where we have two winnable games at home in the league. If he wins both of those then again he stays an gets a chance to try and turn it roundin the WC Break. If he loses one and we play te same turgid crap we have been seeing in the first halves of games then he gotta go.
