Re: Moyes Out
West Ham is a poisoned chalice - I don't blame any decent managers not wanting to come here.

Re: Moyes Out
Also there must be managers out there looking at our squad and ground in london thinking that the west ham job would be an excellent appointment.

"I refuse to believe that if we lose to Leeds he will still be West Ham manager""¶ even a draw isn't good enough. We spent neigh on ¬£200m in the summer I cannot fathom Kretinsky is not wondering who else they can get and has started scouting around for replacements."

Re: Moyes Out
"the fact is moyes had one hand which he played in the league around lockdown. it was a hand good for 18 months before clubs largely sussed it out. long after it had exhausted its magic, we were still not that much of a known quantity in europe and got two electric nights out of it. even still, it's worth remembering that of the six european knockout legs we played, we were poor in four of them. without those two nights, the picture would've been much clearer and a proactive board would've let him go in the summer. our results in the last calender year are much worse than over the rest of the moyes' time here. the results since the season started are even worse than the six months before. the results in the last five games are worse than at any point since he joined. it's been a linear slide towards the bottom that even a £170m splurge did nothing to arrest. waiting for something to change is insanity."
Re: Moyes Out
"Seems strange that since Redknapp we have had a string of managers who have started well then literaly have fallen apart bar Grant and Pellegrini who were crap from the start. Roeder, Zola, Bilic and now Moyes. Thing with Moyes is all the stuff he demanded, fitness, effort, running, they just don't do now. Didn't he originally say if you don't run you don't play and yet his team doesn't show that now. Can only mean the players have stopped listening and the only people who can't see that, or refuse to see it are the board."
Re: Moyes Out
"Westside Not interested in riddles this morning mate but what I would say is that the Moyes style of play in conjunction with his player favouritism is fatally flawed He has flogged an initially aging group to a now geriatric stupor whilst his style has been countered by all others The oldest and least mobile side in the league statistically, with results to illustrate it"
Re: Moyes Out
Football has changed a lot since Moyes's Everton days. Not diminishing the achievement of 4th with Everton but the Premier League is a lot harder league nowadays.

Re: Moyes Out
Wet side Are you talking about Moyes or someone else? I can't remember anyone doing that. Have they?
Re: Moyes Out
"360, what would you say about a manager, who after finishing 7th in the Premier League, then imploded spectacularly to finish 17th the following season, then recovered to finish 4th the next season?"

Re: Moyes Out
"West side Moyes came in when we're doing poorly. Changed things which took a while but then went in to have 2 good seasons. That's very different to what I'm talking about. I'm talking about when everything has been great for a while and then you hit a long dip in form. Does keeping a manager in that circumstance ever really work? I've seen managers survive relegation but never go on to get back to great form again. I'm struggling to think of one manager that's done that. That's why I think lots of clubs have now realised that sacking a manager early makes the most sense. Sacking managers is actually a strategic part of football really. You get a manager bounce with a few points gained. Get rid of dead wood. Break the whole ""managers favourite player""ù thing. As much as I like Moyes and what he's done and was a strong advocate for him during both of his terms here. I will say strategically for the club he needs to go right now. I'd rather use the jan money on compensation for him than a new player."

Re: Moyes Out
"Potter managed to turn it around at Brighton after a 10 game winless streak. However, Brighton were not playing badly and their issues of just struggling to convert chances were the main issue. They then went and beat 3 teams in the top 7. Away at Spurs, Arsenal and obviously beat us. The differences were that Potter had them playing the right way and had the confidence to go and win away at teams like Arsenal and Spurs. Moyes hasn't won awat at these teams in is it 70 games? There's no confidence in Moyes changing things for the good. He will stick by what worked 18 months ago. There is no confidence he'll play a way to get the best out of the new signings. There is no confidence that he'll be abvle to have us picking up points against the top sides. Why the board have confidence in him is anyone's guess."
Re: Moyes Out
"Sir Alf - good post, quite unbelievable that Moyes is still around. How does anyone explain how a weak squad, with the bare minimum of players, qualifies for Europe in successive seasons, is added to by spending close to £180m and now faces relegation? In fairness sullivan put up the money in the summer, the management team headed by moyes, is completely and utterly inept. We are rubbish, can't pass or shoot, unfit and yet the players were given a break during the EC. He has no idea what his strongest team is, his pathetic tactics are known throughout football and he has clearly lost the dressing room despite weak comments by the likes of rice. This cannot go on but like many on here I fear it will. Putting sullivan and the useless gold to one side this doesn't say much about the influence of the czech does it?"
Re: Moyes Out
"I thought that he would get the first 3 games, post the world cup. There is then a bit of gap until the next league game (10 days or so), with the FA cup being written off (no change there). Chance to get somebody in, to work with the team, before the next league game. Still think, this is the case. This season reminds me of 2006/07. A good cup run, the previous season, masked the start of league deterioration ( 4 wins in last 12). Then players purchased for the next season, the manager doesn't really know how to use"
Re: Moyes Out
"ED Good call, I'd take that Aussie immediately if accessible I'd also like to know what Nevin offers either us or England, beyond the obvious box tick - both suffer similar issues; coincidence?"

Re: Moyes Out
"Pedro 1:25 Sat Dec 31 We had a chance of getting someone like that 5 games ago, but it's gone now. There was something to tempt them with at that point, as it wasn't necessarily a relegation battle, sadly we're now deep in the mire, and managers of that calibre won't want any of that. I'm siding with the Celtic manager, if we could tempt him. He's 57, so he's no spring chicken, and might not get a better opportunity to manage in the best league in the world."
Re: Moyes Out
"While I'm at it, does anyone remember any football manager having such a bad spell at a club and turning it around to have subsequent great seasons later on? I cant think of anyone who's done that. Why do they think Moyes can? I can remember this manger whose team finished 16th in his part first half a season, winning only 5 of 19 Premier League games. Then in the next season they finished 6th, then 7th the season after. What was his name...?"

Re: Moyes Out
"The sad thing is, even if we beat Leeds, he'll get another run where he'll be allowed to win 1 in 3 games. That pattern would have us on 35 points. He's what they want in a manager and therefore he will get much more time than he should. Each game that goes by now is less chance of getting a better calbire manager or them having the time to change things. It's going to get to a point where it is pointless. They will hope a couple of loan signings and 3 worse teams save us. I doubt he'll be sacked even if we don't beat Leeds at this rate."
