The second season under Pellegrini was an aberration if you look at his career in full. I can't help think that the club made a mistake in firing him so quickly in December 2019. I reckon he would have turned it around and saved us all from the dour jock. Pellegrini has succeeded at every other club he has managed in Europe and won Betis their first trophy since 2005 last season (Copa Del Rey). If the board had held its nerve in December 2019 things could have been so different. Three years later we are in the same situation as when Moyes took over. Zero progress made.

"Unless the feeling is that Moyes only ""writes off"" the away games against the so-called big six? I've read various interpretations of this. We'll never know, of course, because the reality is what happens in Moyes' nut - and nobody wants to go there..."

"It's a lot more than 16% Trunds. It's almost 31.5% of games he's effectively writing off as a Brucey Bonus if we get points. Almost a third of every season, if he does it. And for that he should be sacked, not docked money."

I dont think the recruitment has been terrible. I think the managers have been incompetent in how they play them. A fair few have gone to other clubs and done well.

"We're no longer guaranteed wins like we used to be (against fairly average sides) as these teams have also improved. So all this ""anything is a bonus against top six sides"" is nonsense. Every game should be seen as a potential win and the team be set up accordingly. We have gone from two seasons in a row of improving the club/brand/reputation to undoing all that hard work by having a terrible season to date. No changes have been done to put that right, unless you can call bringing in Noble but that remains to be seen what impact he will have?"

"You're absolutely correct, Southbank, regarding your point about the owners. I believe all they want is a continuation of our status as a Premier League club, and they will only act if there's a real threat of doing sown. I believe they will act too late, and there's a real possibility we will go down. There's also another point regarding David Moyes and the board. They think he can ride this out and keep us in the Premier League because he's done it before. However, they are missing his outdated approach to the game, and the way Moyes sets up his team cannot cope. The last point, I think in their mind, they tried to bring in a progressive football-playing manager in Pelligrini and the expensive experiment failed, so they reverted to a safe pair of hands."

"I've always thought that how you play against the best teams kind of dictates the results you get against the lesser teams. The times I've seen WHU do well is when we actually give the big teams a proper game. You are testing your ability against the best. So when you play lesser teams your more likely to win. Iron sharpens Iron etc... Thats why pre-seasons dont predict much because your not really testing yourself at the top level, and using that experience from top level games to improve you. If they are really writing off top 6 games then maybe thats the whole problem with Moyes in a nutshell. To be consistent you cant switch it off, you have to keep trying to win against everyone you face. You're just lowering your standards and ultimately you won't be able to beat anyone at all (just like now)."

"Sorry to stress the point, but that stupid mentality - which clearly Moyes does have (just look at his record against the so-called big six), is also the reason why good players don't want to hang around at West Ham for very long. Declan Rice has been offered a record pay deal to stay. But he's been open about playing for a side with more ambition. Moyes reinforcing our constantly limited ""grateful to be here"" ambition - also regularly exhibited by our board since their takeover - is the reason our captain wants out and has publicly said he wants out. We're not a small or even average-sized club any more. We have a ground of 62,500 seats and we're the 18th biggest club side in the world by revenue. That's because we have dedicated fans who pour through the door every season, regardless. But we've still got a two-bob, pikey Steptoe and Son approach at the highest levels."

"Moyes' mindset of effectively writing-off 36 points every season is absolutely fucking barmy. ""Anything we get from those games is a bonus."" No it isn't a bonus. It's called the Premier League - you will play good sides every year. It's the meat and bones of the season. Every season. I see Brentford have not been thinking that way."

"Nick, That's interesting, and reinforces a few points: a) Pearce is not tactically adept himself. He's a good motivator but - like Moyes - he lacks real tactical insight for a modern coach and manager. b) The absolute idiocy of effectively writing off twelve games per season against the so-called 'big six'. It is an utterly ridiculous mindset and the complete reversal of what we should actually be doing. If anything, playing teams that most people (outside of WHUFC) think ""should"" beat us...ought to give a manager and coaching staff i) some extra motivation to prove them all wrong, rather than reinforce that view and ii) some freedom to think 'fuck it - we're going after these guys'. Moyes, Pearce and even Irvine when he was around - they're all slightly outdated coaches in a fast-changing Premier League era. They had one successful tactic, it got rumbled and now the entire club is struggling because it can't deal with basic and updated opposition tactics. Time to move on from all of these people (Pearce and Irvine gone already, of course)."

"Whatever Moyes says to the media is irrelevant. It is our run of results, current form and likelihood of relegation that speaks loudest to our owners. The team has long been in a run where the collective effort has been less than the sum of its constituent parts with no sign of this improving."

Let's be honest we are probably better off keeping Moyes until gsb go as he will just be replaced with some out of work orgmatic manager like Benitez! We need a recruitment team in place who will conduct a professional search and come up with a short list worthy of us.

"There was a 10 mins snippit on talksport this morning because we have now lost the most games in the prem. Pearce was on there still referring to ""we"" when talking about the club. Was all very friendly and of course he didn't call out Moyes but 2 interesting points he did make:- 1/ When asked if Moyes will take the game to Leeds and go for 3 points, very clear that he will play to nulify and be conservative, a point is better than no points etc etc. 2/ But then said he is the most detailed, focused manager he's ever worked with and he's all over data, specifics etc and picks the team to get the right result against the next opposition. I found this very interesting given the team, formation and tactics never seem to change.... One final interesting point, Pearce said he (and not sure if the royal we when he was at the club) used to whiteboard the top 6 clubs and that anything from those games would be a ""bonus"". Might have something to do with Moyes awful record against the big clubs. He was using it as a positive example because we have beat most of the clubs outside of the top 6 over the last 2 seasons but this year we're not picking up those results."

"Lee Trundle 11:18 Tue Jan 3 Re: Moyes Out Totally agree, Trunds. Only Moyes will know what he's really thinking - and the players and staff will know what he's been like compared with previous periods...but I do get the impression that Moyes knows the game is up. He certainly doesn't give the impression of a man fighting tooth and nail for his job and his team. The interviews he gave before and after the Brentford game just smacked of somebody who knows he's been found out, has nothing to offer in return, and who is offering little in the way of a fight-back. Maybe I'm wrong about that. He's always been a bit guarded with media - but he certainly doesn't speak like he thinks he'll be around for much longer."

"RBshorty 11:40 Mon Jan 2 Sadly very true. The character traits and defects of Sullivan in addition to his underlying psychology which is highly likely to be narcissistic or at least highly focused on validation ( small man syndrome ) means he is wired to ""never be wrong""ù or is unwilling to be. He will believe his judgement and choice of manager to be the best and giving Moyes far too much time etc. even though history tells a contrary story. Cannot learn in other words because it means conceding he doesn't know what he's doing etc. In business he was successful via property ( where his fortune was made ) . Once you get into commercial property it's hard to go wrong over 40-50 years. And he got his initial investment by being prepared to go into an industry most would shun or be ashamed / embarassed to get involved with. But fair play to him with regards investment more recently. No criticisms there. The way it's invested, who chooses players etc is still open to doubt though. Would not be surprised if he is dabbling still. But this is a man who buys a porn star as a wife and changes them from time to time to get a newer version. An ego that is insatiable to compensate unconscious small man feelings. It drives his choices and actions as West Ham is his hobby of choice too. In short, as you say, nothing will ever improve for good while GSB are around"

Agree that it's most likely to be Benitez. Sullivan loves telling that story about nearly signing him before Madrid came in. It's shame this will probably come too soon for Carrick. Although I think I'd prefer a chance on him to Benitez

Moyes must know it's game over . I suspect he lost the players the moment he went public with his comments after the Brighton game at the end of the season. He flogged the guts out of them last season due to his downright stupidity .lduring the January transfer window. and the players haven't forgiven him .

The Cowley brothers have just been sacked by Portsmouth After Pelegrini left they were even being touted as potential West Ham managers. Stock fallen dramatically it would seem.

As long as the SPIVS are here. We will go from one crisis to another. They were dinosaurs with regards to running a top football team back in the 90's. Nothing has changed over the proceeding 30 years.! It's always is. And always will be basic plumbing. Shit trickle's down.!
