"The fact that Moyes has just won a trophy and yet hasn't been offered a contract extension says it all. I expect we'll make a few decent signings but Moyes will stick with the tried and trusted old guard. My expectation is we plod along around 10th to 15th most of the season. Moyes to see out a disappointing season with maybe a cup quarter final or two, he then leaves end of the season when his contract runs out."

"Will - I know you are, who else would offer him the deal, but I'm not so sure, Sullivan has to sit and watch this rubbish every week also. It's also possible that Moyes will want a break himself."

I agree with you entirely Manuel. The difference is that I am looking at it from Sullivan's point of view. If Sullivan sells to Kretinsky it might be different but Sullivan will do what Sullivan does and that's worry about staying in PL

"Willtell - I take your point but would probably disagree, even if we have a good season I think he would have run his course with us. We need to move on from a dinosaur and take the club into the 21st century."

"""what do you see as fucking up badly? losing 21 league games?"" ---------------------------------- Not if he ends up in 14th place and wins a European trophy no. And neither will the current board. But let's be clear here. I hate his brand of defend in depth and look to score on the break or from set pieces. We should have better to progress. But fans don't really matter to the board when you have full 62,500 stadium every game and the majority of your revenue from TV companies and not fans. Especially when WHUFC has the cheapest season ticket prices in PL..."

"Moyes might be gone before the next window but that means that he fucked up. Get to the final stages of Europa and a nice top 6 finish and Moyes will get a long term contract no matter how bored fans are. You might suggest that manager changing clubs like Real Madrid, Barcelona, PSG, a Milan club or a top 6 PL club as examples but do you really think that's where we are?.."

"It's time for us all to accept that Moyes is here next season and unless he fucks up badly, he'll get a new contract after that. I agree about the style being shit but 6th, 7th, and 1th plus 3 seasons of European football and at least one European trophy is not an unsuccessful manager that needs sacking by any board of directors. Ask Leicester, Leeds and Southampton fans if they'd swap places..."

"Not that it matters too much, but we were not favourites for the Conference League from the start: that was Lazio, by most bookies' accounts. But we were certainly expected to go far in the tournament, so I take the broad point. Winning that trophy was great - and I'll never belittle it because, as a moment, it was superb to be involved as fans in something like that. We beat some decent sides in the knockout stages. But the meat and bones of our football is the Premier League. And Moyes has a LOT to prove there after last season. Let's not forget how utterly atrocious we were for so long, and it will only get harder without our best player (certainly our most consistent) and captain."

"Just a shame we're not outsiders then! I would have loved Sullivan to sack him just to see the response from the media, who would have been apoplectic with rage. They would have said that just added to Rice's determination to leave, no nothing wankers."

"David L - I agree with you, but to the outsider taking the results of last season at face value it was a very good one indeed. For those of us who sat through most of it however know that the football was dull and ineffective and are dreading more of the same and without the quality of Rice to rescue poor performances. I fear for us a bit ."

"nychammer - fuck all this ''credit in the bank'' nonsense. What happened in the ECL last seson has absolutely no bearing on our season ahead, none whatsoever. It's gone, finished. Did the ECL journey somehow reinvigorate our EPL season? The fuck it did. Our performance in the final only confirmed Moyes approach this season in the league will be more, much more, of the same shit."

"I think we have to be very careful. Wining the cup was great but we were clear favorites from the off in that competition. The league last year was horrible and some of the football was just horrible to watch, but we survived. Fine margins separated a disastrous season from one of the best in recent memory. Cracks have indeed been papered over, but paper over them we must for now. The 'Credit in the bank' has been well and truly topped back up, but we cant allow the same situation to unfold next season with harder games in Europe and without our midfield dynamo. I really hope that we are going to be signing the player to allow us to pay to more effect, close some gaps in the squad and we go on to have a decent season, but if it goes south again early on we will without a doubt need to act decisvely."

"El Scorchio and Side of Ham Those cracks you both refer to... More like a fucking SCHISM! I predict this thread will be very active by the end of September. We should have gone for Postecoglou. I predict Tottingham will be well clear of us within a few short weeks. Sullivan, Brady and Moyes. What a prospect!"

It was fucking great to win the Euro Conference. But just to keep going with Moyes because of that seems fool hardy at best given the massive questions that surround Moyes management skills in the modern game. Moyes is great for backs against the walls situations but beyond that he has been limited at best. Everything Moyes came out has proved to be bollocks Aiming for young squad we have got older under his stewardship Looking at red bull model to develop young players and sell on at profit to keep developing the squad. How he studied tactics see the dross served up other the 18 months and he is still playing pretty much the same set up he was doing at Everton.

SullyHammer 2:44 Tue Jun 20 Quite slow isn't he? And doesn't do the work or 'feeding off scraps' bit that Moyes would want.
