Re: Moyes Out
I too would settle for finishing 5th 6th or 7th every year. (So an average of 6th) With the proviso of some good cup competition also. Just to let you in the last 11 years our average position was 10th Under Moyes the last three years the average is 9th (plus 2 decent runs in Europe) Don't know what that proves but I know it won't win many over to Moyes' corner but in the spirit of our new stats-driven DOF I thought it was interesting to look it up

Re: Moyes Out
"Swindon Maybe I'm too much of an optimist here. But I think the unique problem with the PL is that with so much money in the league and so few geninuine elite footballers in world football it's they're all starting to cancel each other out. The money is not actually guaranteeing anything. thats why some of them have been desperate for the super league. In fact, I think without proper leadership these big spending clubs can very easily turn into mid table flops I.e. Chelsea, no matter how much you've spent. It's also meaning that teams with good Organization in a particular season (brighton, us at some points etc) can be in that top 7 conversation. I don't think we have seen anything like the money that's out there now. And the effects aren't exactly what everyone expects. The thing i will say is that without doubt the most important person in the game right now is the coach. That's the crown jewel. All these elite players mean fuck all without someone to make it all click. Too many egos out there now to guarantee anything from big money signings."

Re: Moyes Out
"You can already hear the cunts excuses already after his usual dithering over transfers. 'Well, och, we lost, aye, young Declan, hoots, who was impossible to replace. Hogmanny on a stick, I canna be blamed because we tried to get deals over the line but we don't have the money, jings and crivens, we all have tae abide by FFP tha knaws'. Despite our first five defeats this season in the league, och, we have once again been grate in Europe beating the amateur side FC Mittydiddyboys 2-0 so there's always a silver lining. Have I mentioned recently the Europa Conference Cup win, och aye those were the days when young Declan ruled with us over Europe. Good news we have just signed the FC MittyDiddyboys centre forward on loan with an option to buy. The only way is up boyos."

"swindon hammer 10:30 Thu Jul 6 May be do. 5th 6th and 7th may get harder to achieve. But if we could play entertaining, positive and entertaining football trying to get to those positions and failing, surely that's better than playing boring, uninspiring and outdated football and failing. Football evolves and develops. Moyes is a fucking dummy that's stuck in the 90's. I see Emperor Moyes has seen off another coach that may have dared question his style or even dare to suggest the implementation of a new style or philosophy. Fuck me, it's becoming a bit like the film Downfall."

Re: Moyes Out
4 coaches gone in what 2 years? One common denominator and we know via warburton and steinberg he's rowed with players and coaches Just get rid and give everyone a clean slate with a progressive manager open to change

Re: Moyes Out
"""We don't expect PL titles or demand CL football but we want a strong competitive team that plays entertaining and positive football than can be regular 5th, 6th, 7th finishes""ù I don't think anyone is entitled to ask for that but I do think bringing regular 5th, 6th & 7th finishes without Saudi money or something similar would be difficult. Outside the historically ""big clubs""ù with the biggest finance from the 80s (Arsenal, Liverpool, Man Utd & Tottenham) there are only 2 other clubs since that have consistently broke into that pack of qualifying for Europe most seasons and they are Man City & Chelsea who were bought by Saudi/Russian billionaires. Now Newcastle have been added to that list so you have 7 clubs who either have owners who have funds that dwarf the rest of the Premiership or/and they are historically big clubs/brands that generate more income through sponsorship, corporate etc. So for us, without a takeover from someone very rich it would be difficult to regularly finish 5th-7th every season. We will always have seasons that dip out of that. You could argue that the past 3 season's of finishing 6th, 7th & winning the ECL were good enough results wise and if we found a manager that played positive and entertaining football to go along with that then we would be content."

Re: Moyes Out
"I hate these fans that have a go at other fans for wanting more. Calling them entitled and throwing the old ""What? Are we Chelsea or Spurs now?"" It's so out-dated and lazy that attitude. It just breeds a continual cycle of under-achievement and mediocrity that's accepted year after year. I mean, we are only little West Ham. No West Ham fan is entitled and would argue that to my last breath with anyone. We don't expect PL titles, or demand CL football. But we want a strong, competitive team that plays entertaining and positive football that can become regular 5th, 6th, 7th finishers. Then build from there. How the fuck is that entitled?"

Re: Moyes Out
"If Moyes has the final say then that is a good thing, but it's bad management if he sees a player on the drawn up shortlist and decides to being them and then not okay to their strengths or at least set up in certain games so they can be effective. Ings would comfortably score 10+ goals in a side that get the ball down and play, working it into the box etc, not this sit behind the ball, counter attack with the battering ram Antonio upfront. I'm pretty sure Scammaca would get himself in better scoring positions if he was given some freedom to play off a second striker also. Moyes probably thinks Antonio is the second coming of Yakubu, but difference being, Yakubu was effective at what he did, Antonio has been effective for 18 months and now has gone completely off the boil. We need a change of style next season, otherwise it will be a long hard season again, staring at the barrel of relegation."
Re: Moyes Out
You're right Stevethehammer but I think what ex has said is really just because Moyes has it in his contract to have the last word. The board aren't going to break that contract and become the bad guys. Reality is that Steidten will have the biggest role in appointing the next manager. If Moyes disagrees with all Steidten's recommendations Moyes may as well resign now because he can kiss goodbye to any WHUFC future. Moyes has to keep winning games and work amicably with Steidten. If he doesn't then Steidten will almost certainly recommend he's paid off or find a better manager for next season...

Re: Moyes Out
"A better manager get would get the most out of the squad he has. Moyes has some good players at his disposal but doesn't know how to use them. Scammaca and Ings being the prime example, both play far far better in a 2 and for someone who has the final say on transfers, he never seems to get a player then fits his system so what's the point"

Re: Moyes Out
Apparently exwhuemployee said on his podcast that Moyes still has the final say on transfers What's the point in signing a DOF with such a good track record then!
Re: Moyes Out
"Of the players bought last year some of the noise may well be lazy journalism. Rumours around Scamacca; Downes; Kehrer; Areola and Paqueta do look as if the European success papered cracks of dissent. Add to that Warburton's comments and departure; Rice's departure; Antonio; Johnson and Soucek rumours then you have to ask WTF is going on? Is it just that it's our club so we are more aware with other clubs supporters having the same thoughts, or is it a case of no smoke without fire? Either way it is going to be a hard season adjusting to some of the departures; playing 30% possession football again and, potentially, bringing in new players late in the window who have to ""settle"". I have been unhappy with Moyes for some time and the current noises do not create grounds for optimism. Hopes seem to hang on this Tim bloke but he isn't picking the team and there lies the problem, Moyes cannot manage talent."
Re: Moyes Out
"Fifth Column 1:25 Mon Jul 3 Well said, when you see how teams such as Brighton and Brentford try to play, it's frustrating that we're so negative and dour. Moyes has done a fantastic job and the trophy win will always be remembered. I'd have liked to have seen him leave now and go out on a high. I've a feeling we'll again be negative, struggle and the fans will turn on him, I hope I'm wrong and he sets us up more attack minded, but I don't think that's the Moyes way."

Re: Moyes Out
"Bilic It's not entitlement to expect a manager to be able to coach a team not to play eleven men behind the ball every match. It's not entitlement to expect a manager to pick players on merit and drop players, who've been out of form for months. It's not entitlement to expect a team to show signs of having any sort of plan to score from open play. It's not entitlement to expect a manager to make subs when it's glaringly obvious subs are needed and before going two or three down. With the money spent last year my reasonable expectation was: 1. We try to play football and show on the pitch that we have a clear plan for how to score from open play 2. Not be in a relegation battle That's it. That's all most fans expected. Our football was abysmal. We were in a relegation battle. I'm very grateful for what he's done for our club. I wish he'd left with his head held high. I think it will get v ugly very quickly this season. I hope I'm wrong."
Re: Moyes Out
"BillC79 11:21 Sun Jul 2 Sense of entitlement or just expecting a team to try playing with a bit of a style and be positive? I think most fans just want to see us try to win games, be a bit more attack minded and not have a manager set the team up to just be hard to beat."

Re: Moyes Out
Loyalty doesn't exist in football anymore. If the shit moyesball continues in the league he won't last long The cup win novelty will quickly die off if it's dire football once again
Re: Moyes Out
"The poor football last season came from necessity for points. Could have been a different story had we got the point at Stamford Bridge, beat Forest instead of hitting the woodwork three times and missing a penalty. Those games were early on, heads dropped. We all saw what confidence did to an arguably better squad in 2002-03. He did what was needed to keep us up. The game at home to Man Utd was more in keeping with our previous performances"
Re: Moyes Out
"The level of entitlement from our fans is nuts. Two top 7 finishes (including our highest top flight points total since 1986), a Europa Semi and a trophy in three full seasons. Two half seasons saw survival from precarious relegation trouble. But one poor league season (in keeping with most of our history) and half the fans jump on his back. We used to be a loyal bunch. Everton stuck with him through his dip in form and saw consistent top 7 finishes, including 4th."
