Blunt stats without context can be misleading. However it's quite clear the Everton pass the ball too much and cannot defend. Simply giving a number of passes and drawing a conclusion without considering the nature of the play action skews people's objectivity. For example it's better knowing how many passes were keep ball actions and how many were forward with attacking intent. It's perfectly possible to outpass the opposition but go through the game making fewer defence splitting passes than the opposition. Incidentally having said all that I cannot but add a stat of my own because for all Chelsea's ball dominance we ended up having more efforts on target than they did.

"It wasn't tongue in cheek in the slightest. If any footballer is worth a rub of salt, he'd have watched that yesterday and been disgusted with the way we 'played'. We had £70mil worth of international central defenders, an Italian international left back, am England international central midfielder just bought for £30mil, an England international winger, a Brazilian international who we want £100mil for, and we can keep hold of the fucking football for more than 2 passes. It's fucking embarrassing. Hopefully he's purely after the money, he won't be coming for footballing reasons."

Sometimes you gotta count your blessings and just look at the final result We beat Chelsea 3-1 with 10 men And seems most people are pissed off about possession and passing??? Would we be fussing about these trivialities if anyone else was in charge? (Probably cos we love a moan tbh) I'm no Moyes superfan but obviously whatever he did worked. And much as I hate Chelsea its not like we only beat someone dogshit

"Manuel, yeah you're right about Kudus being suited to our counter attacking style of play. I didn't realise that ED was being tongue in cheek, probably because he's said the same sort of thing many times recently about pretty much every player we're linked with."

"If we won yesterday with Moyes imagine what we could of done with a manager that would like to have control of the football from time to time and not be glued to our own 18 yard box Enjoyed the result but not the performance. It was as anti-football as you are going to get. We managed just 227 passes, you simply can't continue to win games when you have the ball so little. For comparison, Everton got beat 4-0 away from home....were largely abject and capitulated and managed to have over 150 more passes than us. 24% possesion at home is unacceptable , felt like we turned up to watch Chelsea play football. Still Moyes out"

"I would like to think ED said that tongue in cheek to cement his point that he makes daily on here about how we play. Of course Kudos wouldn't be thinking like that, if anything he'll be thinking how he'd be well suited to our counter play, plus we don't play sides like Chelsea every week. Oh, and we won 3-1, I would like to think he noted that :-) And as said, money, location etc trumps most things anyway."

"It's a bit silly saying that Kudus won't come here because of the way we play when he's already agreed personal terms with us and turned down Brighton. Fact is the vast majority of players care mainly about what they earn, the status and location of the club, what league they play in and their chances of winning things. The quality of football being played is way, way down on the list."

"Absolutely spot on right scott_d. I thought that any potential player seeing us up against a big spending team and beating them 3-1 would have been impressed. It showed spirit and determination with 10 men defending well and counter attacking cheered on by 65,000 fans in a big stadium. Then thinking about Soucek's performances he would be thinking he'll get into the side easily..."

"ED, being West Ham we are quick to see the negatives. Pretty sure a potential signing would look at yesterday and see that we were organised, played well, won the game with 10 men, atmosphere was decent, Alvarez looked well up for it when he came on... allot of positives from a neutral that might make him think he can make a difference. Not everyone looks at our games off the back of years and years of disappointment and let down!"

"twoleftfeet - nah sorry son, I was at the game not on here as I have a season ticket.. I also celebrated like a loon when we won. But obviously you think that wanting us to win and being unhappy at the way we approach games is mutually exclusive... You've repeatedly said all close season that you wanted Moyes gone, but now you're given it the big one to those that do, so I was just enquiring as to where you are now, cause I genuinely can't keep up.. Would you care to enlighten me"

"Fraser I know it was a tough day for you and your mates on this thread, no one likes it when we win so I sense your pain. Fingers crossed that we get an absolute hammering from Brighton. On the Moyes front I've made it abundantly clear what my views are, I'd like him to have gone after the final but he didn't so as long as he is here I will support him. He isn't the ideal manager but we do seem to win the odd game and trophy oh and to the moron on here who thinks yesterdays result would put Kudus off joining us""¶.don't be a dick! If it was me I'd be thinking wow they beat Chelsea think how much better they could be with me playing for them, where do I sign?"

"A big worry is if any of these players we're linked with watched that match. I'm assuming Kudus would've watched that yesterday, us having 27% possession of the football, would you join a club playing football like that? I bet he was fucking shocked a team that cost about £400mil was camped on it's own 18 yard line."

Brighton will be the test to see if this group can continually defend against a good attacking side.

"To say we winged it yesterday would be an understatement, missed pen, another pen chalked off due to a marginal offside, yes we will take it but 8 times out of 10 we lose yesterday. The biggest positive, apart from the result was how we dug in, they seem to be playing for Moyes, I think that is fair to say. I would like to believe we won't play like this all season, it's just not sustainable, and would hope Moyes wants us to be more attacking. If we get Kudos that could be a game changer."

"I'd like to see the stats on how many times a Premier League team has won a game when they've had less than 30% possession. It can't happen that often, a team having 27% of the ball, it's mind boggling. You'd probably guess 1 game in 30 would be won with such a paucity of possession. You are relying on an incredible amount of luck, and we got that yesterday. Let's hope we get the same incredible luck against Brighton. If we can Mick a goal with one of our very, very few attacks, our 10 men camped on our 18 yard line might survive against the mighty Brighton for the first time in Premier League history. Fingers crossed."

"""I am beginning to wonder if Moyes did set us up to attack more we'd have lost that and many other games because we don't have enough key players to make the difference"" we lost twenty (TWENTY) league games last season. how is that a good example that his approach works? the players clearly hate it, and the fans with a working brain despise it/him"

I really dislike the way Moyes sets us up but I have to say that it worked against a fragile Chelsea. I am beginning to wonder if Moyes did set us up to attack more we'd have lost that and many other games because we don't have enough key players to make the difference. Quite a few more and better players are needed before we can start to score goals from open play. Set pieces and on transition are going to be essentially our only way of scoring against well set up teams. Can Moyes allow more freedom with extra creative players though?

You're a funny fucker Side üòÅ You do know we won another 8/9 in the Europa don't you? I'd say your glass is definitely half full but don't worry I'm sure a defeat will be coming soon so you can wank off over your Moyes out agenda. And before you mention it I don't mind if Moyes stays or go but I'll always appreciate the joy he has brought me.
