"Willtell 1:46 Sat Dec 9 Spot on. We seems to agree on more than we disagree on :-) Moyes is not honest but most managers/coaches tend to be economical with the truth I guess due to the media obsession with ""gotcha"" journalism. That said, Moyes arguably gets an easier ride due to his longevity in the game. He seems to suffer from that thing they used to cite in technology seminars called the ""Innovators Dilemma"" its why a lot of companies fail. Get success with a product, process or technology ( in his case way of playing, using small squad, few subs etc) and not seeing or knowing how to change when circumstances change. I think he would like to see us play differently and kind of knows we need to keep it and pass through teams at times ( not all games or teams ) but either doesnt know how, or doesnt believe in it or simply keeps reverting to his old way knowing its enough to get ""enough"" points usually to avoid the sack. A classic case of ""no risk, no reward"". But maybe, as Im clinging to this hope in other threads, Steidten and this crop of U21s might just give him the tools and confidence to really try to play differently. Not one way but switch things. Not many teams do that but going direct or then switching to passing thru a press or midfield and out from the back, depending on who we're playing and whats actually happening in a game. Seems far too dynamic for Moyes though as I don't think he's ever done it? He just seems to have his ""way"" ( Moyesball ?) and will try to force players to play unnaturally ( out of position ) to keep it in place?"

"When Moyes is winning he's tolerable but only just. As Sir Alf says it's the lack of substitutions and playing players out of position that creates the problems. Not using the squad fully except Ings that gets masses of chances and fails every bloody time but he keeps trying like the proverbial nutter expecting a different outcome next time. What hurts is that we all knew Ings was not what we needed when Moyes signed him. I don't accept that Ings was a 'present' from Sullivan either. Moyes apparently didn't sign Kral, Vlassic, Downes or Scamacca and totally ignored them. Ings has been involved in about 20 games. So now Moyes is calling for ""more"" from the second string players. When do they ever get a chance FFS? Is Moyes saying he doesn't pick the youth or reserves because he sees them in training and they aren't impressing him enough? Or is it that after years of managing players he finds it hard to drop those players that he gets on with? There's too many question marks against Moyes and his bullshit. From ""It's what I do - win"" to now calling the reserves and youth out as an excuse for not making changes except in the 87th minute when Fornals needs his appearance money and win bonus. What the fuck did Cornet do wrong I wonder?"

"GB, there is a ""school of thought"" that Ferguson's success was built upon that group of 7 exceptional players ""Boys of 92"" but obviously not just that as he continually brought in good players once he had success in the league and the players said his man management was excellent and that he may not have been hands on with coaching but worked closely with assistants to continually develop and challenge players and the team to do better. If Moyes does get renewed ( no certainty as things change quickly in football via results ) the hope is then that Steidten and our current crop of U21s provides the foundations for even Moyes to go and create a team that actually mix it with the rich clubs consistently ( key word ). Its only a hope but there does seem to be a better chance with Steidten and the current U21s looking so good. We've seen so many missed opportunities down the years ( going back to arguably Greenwood inheriting a fine team / youth from Ted Fenton ) and we always seem to not take the risk or chance. For most on this site, its possibly the last chance before we peg it :-) Happy Xmas"

"As has been said numerous times, if the results are there, consistently, then he's tolerable. I keep hoping he's going to have an Alex Ferguson moment where MU almost sacked him only for him to turn things around and become one of the greats. Unfortunately Moyes probably already thinks he's at least as good, couldn't lace the man's boots and rather than turn things around he has the occasional stutter off his chosen path by accident."

"So we are back where we were for a little while. If we get results Moyesball will be tolerated. It's hard to see us getting results longer term simply due to the good fortune of our last 2 or 3 wins but a lucky manager is always a good thing I suppose. I personally will continue to be frustrated by his selection of the likes of Soucek and playing players out of position, not giving a player like Cornet a chance despite him doing what Moyes asks if fringe players last game by doing something to force his way into selection reckoning. The lack of subs or token subs for appearance money ( Fornals ) and flogging players until they break another frustration. But keep getting results and he will give himself a chance of contract renewal obviously. Moyesie doesn't help himself like with his comments about us not being likely to get top 6 because of the strong teams above us including Villa and Brighton. He's not necessarily wrong to say it will be unlikely but citing Villas big spending was part of that? I pin my hopes on Steidten. If he is the one identifying the players and doing the transfers we could see more like Kudus that even Moyes will be happy to select. It may even mean the likes of Soucek, Coufal no longer starting games and us having a proper forward and other options to allow us to get the ball and keep it better. Just be nice to see us play out and thru the better teams rather than the low block ""Alamo""ù tactics which are a hard watch"

"Is David Moyes getting this squad to play to its potential, I don't think so. Could a better coach get more out of the squad, I do think so. Regardless of what he's done these should be the only questions that need answering. This bloke has over a 1000 games yet he said Thursday was one of the greatest results of his entire career... He's also said it's nice to give one of the top teams a bloody nose every now and again.. Talking us down always like we're some small team who don't play in front of 60k"

We finished 7th under Roeder before he relegated a side full of future young England internationals we sold for peanuts. It's not even hard to predict who supported that.

"Man City aren't the only big club? Many other managers are being touted for bigger jobs without Moyes' experience or relative success. You even accepted why he isn't touted already, and yet you're arguing against it poorly by saying, we could possibly do worse. Like that isn't an argument of every club under any manager. And you have the front to call me slops?"

"Yes slops, your point was a stupid one wasn't it. That unless Man City are banging on his door to get him to replace Pep then he's not doing a decent job with us. Hysterical twats like yourself need to look at it rationally. There are pretty good odds that anyone we replace Moyes is going to do worse job. There's a chance he may do better, but looking at the data he will likely perform worse. When you're losing the standard of football generally isn't great to watch either. We have been down this exact path before sacking Moyes and bring in Pelligrini, a big name, league-winning manager - I loved it at the time but it didn't go so well did it. We can do it again because he;s not entertaining enough, but the chances re it's not going to work - the grass just appears greener."
