Moyes Out

Post Russ of the BML »

"Last nights game is exactly the type of game that fuels the fire of the David Moyes debate. He is part of PL fabric and folklore, he's been around forever. Done a good job at Everton and made them a solid and stable club that, without ruffling the feathers of the top six or seven, they were always challenging to win the 2nd league within the PL, always hard to beat and had a go in the cups. He's done the same at West Ham (although flirted with relegation on occasions) and despite his poor showings at Man Utd (Ferguson's biggest football mistake), Sunderland and in Spain, its that longevity that I think gains him such high regard from pundits and people within the game and the football apologists (as I call them). Before the game last night even Jamie Carragher said he had heard Moyes contract is not being renewed which he said he found ""Bizarre, staggering and unbelievable"" which is irritating enough but when you hear those words with that nauseating, slick scouse accent, its even more so. You hear things like: ""West Ham have never had it so good"" ""7th in the league and playing in Europe"" ""3 years in a row in Europe"" It's all very condescending and ""How dare you get out of your station"" views. So whilst Moyes is a comfortable option for pundits and non-West Ham fans to wave their flags for (Souness and Jim White being two main culprits), they all have one thing in common and where they make the same mistake. They do not watch West Ham regularly. What they do is they judge Moyes and West Ham based on the results of games. And last nights game will be no exception. Pundits and other fans will say it's not that big a crime to go to Anfield and get thumped. And I accept that if you go by the result. But if you go deeper and judge by the context of the selection and performance then last nights result is quite tragic. Despite the hammering by Fulham, there's been alot of positivity around West Ham of late and that wasn't just about results it was about the level of performances and the way we attacked and put teams to the sword with a 4-3-3. Taking that confidence and bouyancy into this cup tie, Moyes decides to put out, what i would call, a West Ham B Team. Against Liverpool at Anfield who are flying. For all those fans travelling all that way on a Wednesday night 5 days before Xmas, to be met with that line up must've been gut wrenching and soul destroying. As if Moyes had lost the game before a ball was kicked. He's actually thrown the game! There's not a cats chance in hell that Moyes believed that team would go out and beat Liverpool. Not a chance! And if he told any of us he did then he's a liar. And then to see Fornals and Benny come out second half who just appear now to be either not playing for him or they are just ground into the dirt. They've both been badly managed and badly coached. And as for Ben Jonson, he's been out of form over a year. Yet Moyes drops him into a 1/4 final at Anfield and, surprise surprise, he's the worst player on the pitch. It's not rocket science. It's just professional suicide. Those travelling fans must've just given up. And why wouldn't they? Moyes did, before a ball was kicked. But he doesn't care that much about the fans. His comments recently that ""As long as I win enough games to keep the board happy, then that's enough for me."" smacked of a lack of ambition and I believe was also a snipe at the fans. His way of saying ""I don't work for you, I work for Sullivan."" And so, again, it's another result that you suspect Moyes knows he can get away with. He knows the pundits, apologists and other fans will see the result and move on quickly. He's swerved one. But unfortunately, he doesn't get that luxury from West Ham fans. And last night is one of the main reasons why many West Ham fans admire and respect what Moyes has achieved but do not want him being the manager as we move forward beyond his contract. I fell sorry for the players too. Last night was like watching unarmed Roman prisoners being thrown to the gladiators and lions in the Collosseum. It was pathetic Just a very sad sight. And what galls me is that last night Moyes won't be disappointed we lost, he will be disappointed that we lost 5-1. He set up to lose. He just doesn't like to lose badly. That's the problem. His expectations of his own ability and the squads potential are too low. I've been complimentary of Moyes lately as credit where its due the penny dropped and he changed it up and went at teams and we got good performances and results. But last night I'm just left again angry and frustrated with him that he feels he can do this to us. Despite our recent league performances which have been upbeat, more exciting and lively, again last night cements it for me that its a ""thank you, David but we need to move on without you"". Potentially with someone who's got the capability to move us on from where we are now. And what does Moyes do after the game. The classic diversion tactic. ""We've just come off the back of winning 7 out of 9"". Classic Moyes. Divert the eyes. Nothing to see here. Don't look at the disaster. Look back at what I've done. Don't look at the burning wreckage that I've caused. Look at the happy times that I've created. Propaganda. And you are going to get these supporters that will say ""What? You expect us to rock up at Anfield and turn them over"" and ""Oh look, thinking we should go Anfield and do them, we're only West Ham"". But nobody thinks that. Nobody believes that. But what I, and alot of others, think is that there is a way of performing and way of losing a football match. And last nights team selection was, quite frankly, pitiful and cowardly. The subsequent performance was shameful. And that is all on David Moyes."

"Let's be honest he'll limp his way through to the end of the season. Sullivan may well want to offer him a new contract - but that decision needs to be made now. There is zero point buying players for Moyes if he is gone in the summer, either buy players to fit his style because that's the future or don't let him pick any players. The worst thing we can do is hand him £30m to spend on players that will be surplus to requirements in 6 months time."

"Making it up as he goes along After Fulham, it was because we were tired after a midweek Europa game After Wolves (no rotataion), no mention of being tired after a midweek Europa game Last night, 'had to rotate the team' but doesn't acknowledge it's on him for flogging the same 12-13 players because he's failed to build a competent squad"

"Exactly, goose. There's little difference in how we played last night, compared to the rest of the season. It was just made worse by playing a shit team with a few players that shouldn't be here."

"Last night was an identical away performance to Burnley, Spurs, Fulham, Olympiakos""¶""¶ take your pick. Some games we get lucky and the opposition don't take their chances (see Burnley and Spurs), sometimes they do (see Fulham and last night)."

"I despise Moyes' cap-doffing deference to the authority of the so-called Big Five. He basically writes off most games against them because he's rarely been a good enough manager to outthink them or outplay them. He absolutely should apologise for that shitshow last night. A small army of fans paid a fortune to travel up north just a few days from Christmas, with few late trains home (many fans are still up there), and he basically threw a quarter final cup game with ""that""ù selection and attitude. And the attitude was all important. That interview after the match was a car crash. But the media love to think like Moyes - plucky old West Ham, not good enough to take on the night of Liverpool etc - so are supine towards the old life-sucking radger cսnt. Of course you can't expect to beat the likes of Liverpool away all of the time. But if you go into those matches with Moyes' life-sucking surrender monkey cap-doffing deference to ""power""ù then you will rarely, if ever, win. Give us a manager whose attitude, rightly or wrongly, is ""fuck them - we're having this""ù."

"Capitol Man, He has shown how NOT to rotate a squad. Last night was proof of how not roatating here and there and trying to keep players as close to match fit massively backfires if you then do it on mass. Yes players need a rest, but he should be thinking about that on a game to game basis to keep things fresh. I know some of these squad players seem to be below standard, but a lot of them haven't kicked a ball outside of training and it shows. Johnson, Ogbonna, Fornals, Benrahma are way off the pace. He threw the game"

"It feels like under Moyes, we are never really far away from a return to those dark days such as the 3-0 home defeat to Burnley. We are definitely capable if being humiliated at home by one of the lesser premier league teams, and it feels like it's coming."

"That interview was full on David Brent. He thinks winning a third rate European trophy (as fab as it was, it's now history) makes him bulletproof from any future criticism. And if he thinks we are seriously challenging for a champions league spot then he's more deluded than I thought."

"Moyes never takes any criticism, it's why most pundits don't ask him the difficult questions. It's like a grumpy grandad being asked to pass the remote on Christmas Day. As for his comments, they just represent his stubbornness and lack of tactical and self awareness. It's the problem with Moyes, always has been, he thinks everything he does is right. The comment about trying to win cups is funny though. He clearly didn't go for this one. Show too much respect and lose to a terrible man utd side this weekend though and could start turning toxic. Sorry to those of you that travelled you deserved better. Think we all felt we'd at least go for it tonight."

"Just been reading Facebook groups and kumb and the tide is definitely turning (well it will till our next win, just have to see the likes of Capitol here) but still loads defending him to the hilt. It's the players fault they've let Moyes and the fans down. But Moyes how attitude was he didn't give a shit, that was transferred to the players... What an inspiration it must have been stepping out at Anfield after being frozen out and knowing you're in because you're manager isn't interested in it. He summed it up with we beat Arsenal but then got the worst draw. cսnt."

Moyes said he rotated as we've played more games than anyone barring City and Liverpool the past 3 years. What the hell has playing 3 years ago got to do with throwing a cup quarter final.

"Rossal I translate that to: - we should think ourselves lucky to be where we are, playing such magnificent teams such as Liverpool - we should expect to lose against Liverpool every time, and not be surprised when we do, so there is no point in trying win. This is not about the result m, it rarely is with Moyes, it's about the approach and the attitude to these games. Pathetic. He obviously isn't intentionally throwing these games but that is worse in my opinion because it suggests his decisions on team selection and substitutions are made with a genuine feeling that they will obtain a positive outcome - the man is deluded."

"Asked if his selection had left him open to criticism, Moyes replied: ""òIt's a pretty cheap question to ask. 'We have had the quickest turnaround of any team in the Premier League. The only teams who have played more in the last few years are Liverpool and Manchester City. 'I don't rotate very often. Tonight was about how good Liverpool were. If you're going to talk about rotation, talk about the amount of games we've played. ""òI've been here lots of times, been beaten lots of times, but tonight I thought, ""My goodness, how many more will they get?""ù ""òWe've won seven out of the last nine. Don't forget how well we've been doing. What do you expect from West Ham? Would you expect us to win a European trophy? Be challenging for the Champions League? 'We've been doing well for what we are. We keep trying to win the games, to challenge the top teams, and we will try to win cups when we get the opportunity. ""òTonight was a tough game for us.' cսnt, not one mention of the 6000 fans who went up there days before xmas. Not one apology. Just deluded cunty soundbits as per usual Sack him today give us all a early xmas present"
