Imho it all comes down to European qualification. If we manage it somehow Moyes will be offered a new deal. Odds are firmly against it though imo. Only worry is if we make the semi final or 8th place ( very close ) Sullivan may not have the fortitude to get rid of him. Moyes priority therefore is going as far as possible in Europe and high as possible in the league obviously. His attitude to the 2 domestic cups is evidence of that. And because he operates with half a squad it's no surprise as 13 or 14 players losing in 2 competitions has a better chance.

"goose 11:18 Wed Jan 17 Did make me laugh when he was banging on about ex Bristol City players in the stand and the camera man was just showing a shot of the said stand with around 2000 people in it! Of all the players he mentioned he missed one. Didn't Dicksy start out at Bristol City, sure he was a Bristol lad?"

"Having some second string players in the team isn't an excuse, Moyes has assembled the complete squad, which he's mismanaged and destroyed any confidence of those players, he will not see it. How bad must Soucek play before he's hooked, let alone dropped? What was the point of Cresswell? Legs went two seasons ago, don't want to be here. Zouma is a terrible choice (by Moyes) as captain, no leadership skill, coupled with fuck all mobility. Being without our complete starting 11 shouldn't be an excuse for not giving Bristol a game, home and away we were worse by a margin. 180 minutes and we hardly laid a glove on them, disgrace. Absolutely Dreadful manager and management. I don't go to games anymore, but I watch every single minute of every game we play so feel qualified to give an opinion. The team spirit, the pride, the fight and the ability of all but a few players is down to Moyes, absolutely 100%. Why Moyes is here still after 2 seasons of this shit, that's down to Sullivan, who is only looking at sixth place (how?) and full shitty stadium. Our club has been sold down the river to the thieving, lying money grabbers. For what it's worth to the support that does go week in and week out, the unhappiness with the manager and owner isn't being seen or heard over the screen. Sullivan, Gold, Brady and Moyes- cunts to a man, a fucking cancer."

"Jonathan Pearce was driving me fucking mad last night, wittering on about past players like a character in a Harry Enfield sketch. RE Moyes - I'm fucking bored of the shit he serves up. We can barely string 3 passes together and none of them will go forward. Aside from defending deep and hoping for a corner or Paqueta to do something we're clueless. It's like they spend their time on the training ground lined up on the 18 yard box practicing defending. When we actually have possession the players are lost."

"I couldn't care less about the pedantics of the squad price. What I care about is that there is a total lack of 'fucks' being given by a number of players stealing a living from the pockets of hard working West Ham fans. Moyes has never really had a plan fucking A, let alone a plan B. He has survived by scrapping wins when all seemed lost and is totally alienated from the fanbase. The Media love him...Jim White and Talkshite constantly bleat on about how lucky we are to have him. We are a fairly big club and our fans have the right (as do all fans of every club) to voice our opinions. We want the media to know that we want the cսnt out of our club."

"As always, outsiders don't seem to understand that some fans want change purely because of playing style. League position, for some (like myself) is highly irrelevant. I've supported a club, that largely over 40 years has yoyo'd between divisions. Not as bad as some, but we've certainly spent some time in the old Div 2/Championship. My stance is clear - I want us to go out and try to win - at the very least - our home games - And unless we're playing the top 5/6 - I want us to have the lion share of possession - I want to see us play a fast passing game. Last night - he played 3-4-3 (according to the BBC). In reality it was a 5-2-3. You do not play wingbacks, then put wingers in front of them. All it does it stifle the attacking prowess of the wing back. We were light in the middle of the park with zero creativity as we didn't play a 10. We should have set up with Emerson/Coufal as wing backs, Benny as 10 in the middle, with Cornet and Ings up top - giving Cornet the license to drift out wide. The performance was an absolute shit show. Add to that - he should have played the fringe players in the first game - had we lost with the youth/fringe , nobody would've cared. What he did was go full strength, lose two of our best players to injury, then lose the fucking replay!!!! The absolute worse possible outcome!"

"All of a sudden that win against Arsenal that created a ridiculous clamour for a new deal for the manager feels a very long time ago, even if you do have helmets like Nutsin either continuing to fish or just proving himself to be a complete idiot. How he continued until nearly the 80th minute with Ings lumbering about I'll never know, even though Mubama clearly isn't good enough. Marshall at least appears to have a first touch and looks like he will at least put in a shift when given a chance. The reality is any of those that started should and would walk into that Bristol City team. They were soundly beaten by Preston North End at the weekend! He hasn't managed to send out a team to beat them in two games. We can't solely blame the 2nd string being inadequate surely? There has to be something attached to the manager on set up, style of play, motivation. Fuck giving him a new contract."

Jonathan Pearce also said there was a player in the 70s named Joe Dyer that played for West Ham and Bristol City so he clearly knows what he's talking about....

I think the point in commentary was that the full West Ham squad cost £450m. Someone said on here somewhere that last nights team cost around £190m which sounds about right.

"Yeah, that team didn't cost £450m. Probably half that. The point still remains, whether the team cost 100 times or 50 times more than the opposition."

"can't be arsed to check it, Pearce said it on commentary so i assume some nerd at the BBC went looking. but if you think that the likes of Zouma, Benrahma & JWP were all in excess of £20m, its probably not too far out."

"Personally I never believed that Sullivan was ever going to offer Moyes a new contract at this stage. When Allardyce was in pretty much the same position (4th at Xmas and playing better football) he was never offered a new contract, which was just as well as our form fell off a cliff and we finished 12th. There's absolutely no reason why Sullivan would feel the need this time to rush it and not wait and see how things develop."

"Until the New Year we've had hardly any injuries, probably the least of all clubs in the PL. injuries are just an excuse for the managers failings. The truth is that Moyes is ill prepared, doesn't have the necessary squad depth (he has been here 4 years, that is on him) and is totally reliant on our three decent players to get him out of trouble each week and paper over the ginormous cracks that are painfully obvious to those that actually watch the team each week. One high profile away win at Arsenal seems to have cemented Moyes as the Messiah again in the MSM and wider worlds view. Last night Danny Gabbidon was questioning the treatment of Moyes by the fans yet lambasting the performance. I wonder how many games he has actually been to or watched in full this season? Moyes must not be offered a new contract. If Sullivan hasn't already then he needs to give TS the brief of finding a new manager who can play attractive football. All those ""òbe careful what you wish for' doom mongers, most of whom don't actually support WHU can fuck right off. I'm not necessarily advocating his appointment but Steve Potts, given the encouragement to implement some youth into the first team squad and play in the same expansive way that the U21s do would 100% do a better job than Moyes. Dozens of other managers would too""¶"

"I would like to see a breakdown of that £450m. I'm not defending Moyes but playing shit and losing to crap teams in the cup is nothing new. Saying that, all this talk about signing a new deal was premature. It came after the wins against Arsenal, Man Utd and Spurs, but squeezed in between thrashings by Fulham and Liverpool. The football was dire but we were getting results. Most teams would struggle without Paqueta, Kudus and Bowen. However, our lack of depth is shocking and that is mainly down to Moyes's squad management. Fornals, Benrahma and Cornet should be more than adequate, but they are all as rusty as a junkie's knife every time they step onto the pitch. This is a results business, so the owners would be advised to keep their powder dry at least until Easter before offering a new deal. Let's see how well we are in the League and if we are still in Europe by then. With our expenditure and wage bill, we should be top 8. Anything less than tenth is a failure."

"We've only got a couple of injuries, much like most other clubs. The side we put out last night was slow, unfit and weren't up for the fight. If that doesn't fall under the managers responsibilities then sounds like a cushty job. Moyes failure to bed in players and rotate when needed is the issue. Oh and then bringing in 2 young strikers and sticking them wide of a non cf doesn't help."

"Think we're already going to be struggling for a European spot, whatever Moyes does from this point on. Man U & Newcastle will definitely get their respective mo-jos back in the second half of the season; Chelsea seem to have turned a corner. Add those 3 to the current top 4 and that's all the European slots accounted for. To have (had) any chance, we really should have 5-6 more points on the table by now. That leaves winning the Europa, which just ain't gonna happen, given who else are in it."

"I didn't see the game as I had to work, but I'm sure it was every bit as awful and dogshit fucking pathetic as our so called fans would have us believe. We all know even if we'd won they'd all still be complaining. Always stings getting knocked out of the FA Cup, especially to a lower division team. However we all know our squad is light on depth and with all the injuries we were stretched thin. So we now move on to Sheffield Utd and hope that we get a few back in time for a busier Feb schedule. I'm still not ready to throw in the towel on Moyes, I'll judge him over the course of the entire season. You wankers carry on with your wank fest as we lost, I'm sure you still have plenty to say at just how shit we are!"

We've either got to finish Top 6 and / or win the EL for him to have any chance of a new contract if you ask me. With the money we've doled out on players and to be this threadbare and going out to a lower league side is not good enough. Mid table and no European football next year and it has to be the end of Moyes.
